H. Lockhart (Darden ’74, Engr ’72 CM), Richard Price (Engr ’92, Engr ’95)
Richard Price (Engr ’92, ’95), professor of biomedical engineering, radiology and radiation oncology at UVA, was selected as the inaugural recipient of the $75,000 Andrew J. Lockhart Memorial Prize from the Focused Ultrasound Foundation. Established in memory of Andrew J. Lockhart (Col ’04, Law ’10) by his friends and family, including his parents Gene (Engr ’72, Darden ’74 L/M) and Terry Lockhart (Col ’74 L/M), the prize “is awarded to an investigator who has already made outstanding contributions to the advancement of cancer treatment using focused ultrasound and demonstrates great potential for further achievements in the field.” Mr. Price has led focused ultrasound research projects on drug and gene delivery across the blood-brain barrier, drug and gene delivery to skeletal muscle to promote new blood vessel growth and the mechanical effects of ultrasound-activated microbubbles to ablate tumors. H. Lockhart (Darden ’74, Engr ’72 CM)
H. Eugene Lockhart Jr. (Engr ’72, Darden ’74) has been elected chairman of the board of trustees of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, the private, nonprofit corporation that has owned and operated Monticello since 1923. Mr. Lockhart joined the board in 2007. He served as the chair of the board’s external affairs committee from 2008 to 2010, when he became vice chairman.
