Marshall Brannon (Col ’62 L/M) presented the first annual Marshall Brannon FLAVA Excellence in Teaching Award, Post-Secondary, on Nov. 1, 2008, at the Foreign Language Association of Virginia’s annual conference in Richmond, Va. The group renamed the award for Mr. Brannon last year in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of foreign language education. He served nine years as a high school French teacher in Chesapeake, 20 years as supervisor of foreign language education with the Virginia Department of Education and 29 years as an adjunct faculty member at Virginia Commonwealth University. In the mid-1980s, Mr. Brannon co-founded Virginia’s Governor’s Foreign Language Academies. In 1999, he was a recipient of the FLAVA Distinguished Service Award. He and his wife of 46 years, Ann, have two sons, David and Stephen Brannon (Col ’89).
