Mike Leinbach (Arch ’76, Engr ’81 L/M), who retired from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in 2011 as the space shuttle launch director, has written a book on the Shuttle Columbia’s 2003 accident debris recovery and reconstruction. The book chronicles the story of 25,000 Americans who helped find the shuttle’s debris in east Texas and reconstruct it at KSC to determine the cause of the accident. It also highlights the extraordinary inter-agency cooperation in the three months of the largest land search of any kind in American history. The book will be published in January.
