Casey King (Engr ’89)
Casey King (Engr ’89) recently concluded the 16th annual HGTC Addiction and Recovery lecture series at Horry-Georgetown Technical College in Conway, South Carolina. Casey created the series in 2008, two-and-a-half years into his own recovery from addiction, as a way to reduce the stigma associated with addiction and to show recovery in a positive light. This year’s keynote speaker was actor/producer Todd Bridges, who spoke about his own recovery.
In 2019, Casey was awarded HGTC Professor of the Year and FAVOR Community Advocate of the year for his dedication and work with the series.

Casey King (Engr ’89), a physics professor at Horry-Georgetown Technical Collegesince 1997, was nominated for the 2019 A. Wade Martin Innovator of the Year and was named 2019 Professor of the Year at HGTC. He has also organized the Addiction and Recovery Lecture Series since creating the event in 2008.

Walter “Casey” King (Engr ’89) recently organized the 12th annual HGTC Addiction and Recovery lecture series. As a person in long term recovery, King created this event as a way to give back to the local recovery community. Over the last 12 years, he has been able to work with celebrities in recovery, such as Meredith Baxter, Louis Gossett, Danny Trejo and Mackenzie Phillips to deliver the message of recovery at the college level. All events are free and open to the public.
