Mark Scharf

Mark Scharf (Grad ’84 CM) has published the play Final Respects (Brooklyn Publishing). His play Clean Up was published in the journal Literature Today in July 2023.

Mark Scharf (Grad ’84) won Best Play for The Monroe Doctrine in the 2020 Southwest Theater Production’s Male Lead Competition.

Mark Scharf (Col ’84 CM) has published a theatrical adaptation of H.G. Wells’ The Island of Dr. Moreau (Steele Spring Stage Rights). The play is available on Amazon along with Mr. Scharf’s previously published plays Lizard Brains, Get Stuffed and Keeping Faith.

Mark Scharf (Col ’84 CM) has received a 2015 Individual Artist Award in playwriting from the Maryland State Arts Council. He also won first place in the 2014 Storefront Theatre Festival of Ten-Minute Plays for his play Our Place. Another of his plays, Fortune’s Child, premiered Jan. 8, 2015, at the Baltimore Theatre Project. Mr. Scharf was a 2010 Great Plains Theatre Conference PlayLab playwright and a 2012 Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Conference semifinalist. His adaptation of H.G. Wells’ The Island of Dr. Moreau will open Oct. 16, 2015, at the Twin Beach Players in North Beach, Maryland.

Mark Scharf (Col ’84 CM) has written a play, Hired Gun, that has been nominated for six awards by BroadwayWorld.com, including Best New Play or Musical and Best Direction of a Play or Musical.

Mark Scharf (Grad ’84 L/M) was recently named playwright-in-residence by the Twin Beach Players, which has commissioned Mr. Scharf to write a stage adaptation of Frankenstein.
