Geoffrey F. Weiss (Engr ’91 CM), a colonel in the U.S. Air Force, will publish first book, The New Art of War: The Origins, Theory, and Future of Conflict in September.
Geoffrey Weiss (Engr ’91 CM)
Colonel Geoffrey F. Weiss (Engr ’91 L/M) was chosen by the U.S. Air Force to command the 552nd Air Control Wing at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma in June of 2017. The 552 ACW operates Air Combat Command’s fleet of E-3 Sentry (AWACS) aircraft as well as the Control and Reporting Centers which provide tactical command and control for world-wide combatant commanders. He is also proud to announce the graduation of his son, Scott Christopher, from UVA’s School of Engineering and Applied Science in May. Scott will earn a B.S. in Civil Engineering and a commission in the U.S. Air Force where he will serve as an Air Force Civil Engineer.

Geoffrey Weiss (Engr ’91 CM) will take command of the U.S. Air Force 505th Test and Evaluation Group, located at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, on June 29, 2015. Col. Weiss is currently the deputy director of the Joint Integrated Air and Missile Defense Organization, in Crystal City, Arlington, Virginia. He and his wife, Karen Gonsky Weiss (Col ’92, Educ ’92 L/M), have three children: Alison, who graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in May 2015; Scott Weiss (Engr ’17 L/M); and Brian Weiss (Engr ’19).

Geoffrey Weiss (Engr ’91 CM) received a master of science degree in national security strategy from the National War College in Washington, D.C., on June 13, 2013. This is his fourth graduate degree. In addition, the school honored him as a distinguished graduate and Warrior of the Year for its class of 2013. His eldest son, Scott, recently received a full Air Force ROTC scholarship to attend U.Va.’s School of Engineering this fall. Lt. Col. Weiss and his wife, Karen Gonsky Weiss (Col ’92, Educ ’92 L/M), reside in Falls Church, Va.
