Thomas Barden (Col ’68, Grad ’72, Grad ’75 CM) was named the 2012-2014 Phi Kappa Phi Scholar by the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi for his achievements in research, teaching, service and leadership. Mr. Barden is the dean of the Honors College at the University of Toledo and serves as general editor of the University of Toledo Press. His research focuses on folklore, the oral tradition and John Steinbeck studies. He has written six books, including Virginia Folk Legends, published in 1991, and numerous articles.

Thomas Barden (Col ’68, Grad ’71, ’75 L/M), a professor of English at the University of Toledo, has been appointed dean of that university’s Honors College. He previous served as director of graduate studies in English and associate dean for the humanities in the University of Toledo College of Arts and Sciences.
