John Noyes (Law ’77)

John E. Noyes (Law ’77) is the Roger J. Traynor Professor of Law at California Western School of Law. His scholarship focuses on the law of the sea and examines international law limits on the use of force, the history of international law, the intersection of religion and international law and international dispute settlement. With 50 professional publications to his credit, Mr. Noyes’ works include books, articles, book chapters and essays. He co-authored The United Nations at 50: Proposals for Improving Its Effectiveness, Cases and Commentary on International Law, Cases and Materials on the Law of the Sea and International Law Stories. Mr. Noyes is also president of the American Branch of the International Law Association. He was named “Faculty Member of the Year” at California Western and received the Outstanding Service Award from the ABA Section of International Law. While at U.Va., Mr. Noyes served as executive editor of the Virginia Journal of International Law.
