John Lumpkin (Col ’71 L/M) will become director of the Schieffer School of Journalism at Texas Christian University in June. The school is named for Bob Schieffer, CBS correspondent and moderator of “Face The Nation.”  Mr.  Lumpkin is a vice president and former bureau chief of the Associated Press,  responsible for newspaper markets in the U.S. and Latin America and for AP revenue from newspaper companies in the hemisphere as well as the U.S. domestic bureau chief system. He has held company positions in strategic planning and has been involved in AP’s shift to multimedia news distribution. He previously worked with the Richmond Times-Dispatch and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram before joining AP. Mr. Lumpkin has received many professional awards and is a member of the Inter-American Press Association and a former director of the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas. He co-wrote West Texas: A Portrait of Its People and Their Raw and Wondrous Land.
