Roger L. Simpson (Engr ’64) received the title of professor emeritus from the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors. He retired from Virginia Tech after 29 years of service to the College of Engineering, where he served as the Jack E. Cowling Chaired Professor of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering. Mr. Simpson served as the national president of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics from 2005 to 2007 and on the AIAA board of directors for 16 years. His academic work focuses on experimental fluid mechanics and state-of-the-art instrumentation development, and he has co-authored more than 250 peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers, book chapters and reviews.
