Michael Wenz

Michael F. Wenz Jr. (Engr ’75, ’77 L/M) retired from the U.S. Navy’s Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program on Dec. 31, 2011. At the time of his retirement, Mr. Wenz was head of the Submarine Operating Reactors Branch of the Reactor Engineering Division, responsible for the safe and reliable operation of the 72 nuclear reactors powering the U.S. Navy’s submarine fleet. In recognition of his service, Mr. Wenz received the Department of the Navy Superior Public Service Award, as well as the National Nuclear Security Administration Silver Medal for Distinguished Service in the National Security of the United States, the NNSA’s second-highest internal award. Adm. Hyman G. Rickover selected Mr. Wenz in 1977 as a nuclear engineer on the Naval Reactors headquarters staff, where he served for more than 34 years.
