Joan Hughes

Joan Tabourn Hughes (Com ’77 L/M) was included in the U.S. Department of the Navy’s “Tribute to African-American Leadership” permanent display, which was unveiled during a ceremony at the Pentagon July 13, 2011. The U.S. Navy recognized Ms. Hughes for her Senior Executive Service leadership as assistant auditor general for the Naval Audit Service. Her husband, Allen Hughes (Engr ’75 L/M); and son, Keith, accompanied her to the unveiling. A week later, Ms. Hughes received recognition for her 33 years of service to the U.S. Naval Audit Service and her promotion to director, Operations Directorate, Office of the Department of the Navy, Assistant for Administration at the Pentagon. Present with her at that ceremony, held at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C., were her husband; son; daughter, Michelle Hughes (Col ’06); and brother, Everett Tabourn (Com ’79).
