Sarah Lawson (Col ’06)
Sarah Lawson (Col ’06) has been named assistant director of the Virginia Center for the Book, a program of the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. In addition to coordinating literacy efforts across the commonwealth, she will help to coordinate the Virginia Festival of the Book, held each March in Charlottesville. Ms. Lawson previously worked with the Building Goodness Foundation and served as executive director of the Piedmont Council for the Arts, two other Charlottesville-based nonprofit organizations.

Michael Cairo (Grad ’94, Grad ’99)
Michael Cairo (Grad ’94, Grad ’99) has been promoted to associate dean for academic affairs at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky, where he is a professor of political science. As associate dean, he assists with the recruitment and mentoring of new faculty, supports faculty through the tenure and promotion process, and assists with curriculum review and other matters related to academic affairs.

Garland Barr (Col ’96 CM)
Garland H. “Andy” Barr IV (Col ’96 L/M) took the oath of office as the U.S. Representative for Kentucky’s 6th Congressional District on Jan. 3, 2013. Congressman Barr serves on the Committee on Financial Services, with a seat on the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit and the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations. He is focused on strengthening Kentucky’s signature bourbon, equine, agriculture and manufacturing industries and fighting for policies that restore government accountability and create a better environment for job creation and economic growth. Mr. Barr and his wife, Carol, welcomed a daughter, Mary Clay, on April 29, 2013. Mary Clay joins sister Eleanor, 2.

Jason Campbell (Com ’92 L/M) joined GrayRobinson’s Jacksonville, Fla., office as a shareholder. His primary focus is business and corporate law and real estate law.

Jeffrey Hamilton (Col ’92 CM)
Jeffrey Hamilton (Col ’92 L/M) is a partner in the Dallas office of the law firm of Jackson Walker. He was also elected president of the board of directors for Heart House Dallas, an organization that provides free after-school care for underprivileged school-age children in Dallas area neighborhoods known for high crime and unemployment rates. Mr. Hamilton previously served as vice-chairman of the board. His law practice is concentrated in the area of complex business litigation and bankruptcy litigation.

Amanda Wright (Col ’07)
Amanda Wright (Col ’07 L/M) is an event planner for the Educational Leadership Center for Wiregrass, an educational non-profit located in Dothan, Ala. The organization focuses on improving leadership and learning in the Wiregrass area public schools. Ms. Wright also volunteers at the Wiregrass Humane Society and is a member of Dothan Area Young Professionals.
