“Wedding” Class Notes

Nicola Beel (Col ’07) and Joseph Crisci were married Nov. 8, 2025, in beautiful Saint Barthélemy. Beel is a senior wealth management lending officer for Merrill Lynch Wealth Management in New York City.

Delaney Mitchell Crozier (Col ’17) and Benjamin Crozier (Col ’18) were married in Chicago, on March 28, 2026. Delaney met Benjamin at a Christmas party at his fraternity, Sigma Alpha Mu, in December 2015. The couple had their first date at Fig on the Corner exactly ten years before their wedding day. They were joined by many fellow Wahoos to celebrate the occasion.

Emily Wright Winans (Com ’22) and Nick Winans (Engr ’22) were married in Tuscany, Italy, Aug. 31, 2025. Ms. Winans met Mr. Winans in college at a Super Bowl mixer between her sorority and his fraternity, following in the footsteps of her parents, who also met at a UVA fraternity hosue.

Alexandra Rains (Col ’19 CM) and Jonathan Hartley celebrated their wedding with family, friends and many fellow Hoos in Afton, Virginia, on October 11. Reuniting with so many loved ones in Charlottesville and on Grounds made the weekend extra special. The couple honeymooned in Switzerland.

Carlton Higby (Engr ’19 CM) and Wendy Wright (Col ’19, Educ ’19 CM) were married in Arlington, Virginia, in September. The couple met in the Baker Street tube station in London on a UVA study abroad program the summer after their second year.

Ross Micheletti (Col ’10) and Mary Wigge (Col ’10) celebrated their wedding with family and friends in Crozet, Virginia, on June 6. Wigge is the daughter of Maureen Aungier Wigge (Engr ’81 CM). The couple plans to travel to Japan in the fall for their honeymoon.

Selina Horsley (Col ’17, Educ ’18 CM) and Benjamin Stone were married April 13, 2024. Selina is the daughter of Garrett Horsley (Col’ 86 CM) and Helen Hamilton Horsley (Col ’87 CM), sister of Lily Horsley (Com ’21), granddaughter of Waller Horsley (Col ‘53, Law ’59), and niece of Stuart Horsley (Col ’82 CM).  Waller Horsley served on the Board of Visitors from 1988-1992. Selina and Ben live in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She is an ESL teacher at East Lake Elementary and he works for Cigna Healthcare.

Emily Schmidt (Educ ’20 CM) and Bryce (Land) Schmidt (Com ’20) were married in Plymouth, Massachusetts on July 26th, 2024, with many ’Hoos in attendance. Sarah Snow (Educ ’20 CM), Emily’s first year hallmate in Watson-Webb, was the maid of honor. Emily and Bryce met second year when Emily lived two floors above Bryce in Lambeth Field Apartments. Bryce proposed to Emily on the Lawn last year.

Katie Appel (Col ’07 CM) and Francisco Gavaldá were married May 11, 2024 in Antigua, Guatemala, with 13 UVA alumni on hand to celebrate. Appel has lived in Guatemala since 2016, managing U.S. government-funded projects on topics related to anti-corruption, education, and violence prevention. Like UVA’s Academical Village, Antigua is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and served as the capital of Guatemala for nearly 300 years. The wedding took place in San Jose el Viejo, church ruins dating back to the 18th century, under the shadow of three volcanoes. Neal Willetts (Educ ’06) married Elijah Akers in a late afternoon ceremony at Ford’s Colony Country Club in Williamsburg, Virginia on June 26th, 2024.  Katie Morgans (Col ’07) did one of the readings, and numerous UVA friends attended.  Surrounded by over 100 family, friends, and co-workers the couple celebrated in true ’Hoo style and kept the party going until late in the evening at a local bar after the reception.  Akers is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and the couple will move to Columbus, Ohio where he works in the IT industry and Willets works as a project manager for a small software company.

Ryan McNeilly (Col ’20 CM) and Chelsea Guillory (Col ’19 CM) were married in Pensacola, Florida on May 2, 2023.  The two met at the Aquatic and Fitness Center in 2018.  They recently celebrated their marriage back in Charlottesville on Jan. 13th, 2024 with many ‘Hoos in attendance. The couple lives in Jacksonville, Florida.

Benjamin Cunningham (Com ’16 CM) and Stephanie Coffua (Col ’16 CM) were married in Savannah, Georgia, on October 28, 2023, 10 years after meeting at the Corner Parking Lot during a scavenger hunt for new students. Over 50 ‘Hoos attended the nuptials, where the bride and groom led a rendition of “The Good Old Song” during the reception. The couple lives in Brooklyn, New York, where Stephanie works as an editor for ABC News and Benjamin works as a consultant for McKinsey & Co.

Liz Barbour (Col ’16, Educ ’16 CM) and Ian Nickel (Med ’19, Res ’20) were married in Albemarle County at Valley Road Vineyards on September 30, 2023. The couple lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, with their dog, Rhys. 

Joe Iriarte (Com ’09, ’10) married Katherine Mize on Sept. 30, 2023 at The Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, Virginia. They met in New York City and live in Boston with their pup Alfie.

Lindsey Jensen (Col ’13) and Bryan Dale (Eng ’14 CM) got married north of Charlottesville at Moss Vineyards on Sept. 16, 2023. Lindsey and Bryan met on The Lawn one fall sunny day at UVA as fourth years. They survived years of long distance before settling down together in Kansas City, Missouri with their golden retriever, Charlie. They had a great time celebrating their love at the place where their story began. Wahoowa!

Chloe Downs (Col ’17 CM)  married Jonathan Colen (Engr ’18 CM) on September 16, 2023, in the garden of Pavilion I at UVA. In attendance were a number of alumni, including in the wedding parties Tyler Curran (Col ’19, Educ ’20), Katherine McCool (Engr ’19 CM), Andrew Coffee (Engr ’18 CM), Brittany Huffman (Col ’18 CM), Anna LeValley (Col ’17 CM), Ritika Bhat (Col ’17 CM), Erika Rashka (Engr ’18), and Caelan Ryberg (Engr ’18). Chloe and Jon are living in Hampton, Virginia, where Chloe works at NASA Langley and Jon is about to begin working as a research professor at Old Dominion University.

Lindsey Jensen (Col ’13) is getting married to Bryan Dale (Engr ’14 CM) at Moss Vineyards, north of Charlottesville, on Sept. 16, 2023.

Daniel Sunshine (Col ’14, Grad ’18, ’22 CM) wed Kajsa Eskilsson on June 3, 2023 in a beautiful ceremony at Early Mountain Vineyards. The couple met in Charlottesville in 2018, while Kajsa was studying abroad at UVA through her law program in Sweden, and Daniel was earning his doctorate in history. The wedding was officiated by the groom’s brother, Ben Sunshine (Col ’11), and was attended by many ’Hoos from the class of 2014!

Katie McCarthy (Col ’09, Arch ’18 CM) married Alex Stefanic in St. Lucia on May 27, 2023. The couple lives in Richmond, Virginia. ’Hoos in attendance included Megan (Van Syckle) Winter (Com ’09 CM), Chris Winter (Col ’07 CM), Katie (Gruber) Sheldon (Col ’08 CM), Virginia McCormack (Com ’08 CM), David Schultz (Engr ’11 CM), and Marshall Agee (Engr ’11 CM). 

Michael Genovese (Col ’98 CM) was married October 9, 2022, to Jennifer Ann.  Sons Alexander and Ryan served as best men.  Genovese completed his doctorate at St. John’s University in New York in 2020, and is the principal at Norwood Avenue Elementary School in Northport, New York.

Julia Truelove (Nurs ’14, ’15) and David Ensey (Engr ’14) were married on October 6th, 2022 in Washington, D.C. The couple became friends after he invited her to interview for the Jefferson Literary and Debating Society. Truelove is the daughter of Margaret Kositch (Col ’83 CM) and Graham Truelove (Col ’83). The wedding party included Amanda J. Ray-Fehlinger (Engr ’13 CM), Patrick Greco (Col ’13, Law ’16), and Kathryn (Kingsbury) Greco (Col ’15 CM), with many other ’Hoos joining to celebrate. The couple lives in Washington, DC, where Truelove is a nurse in the Burn/Trauma ICU at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, and Ensey is the Director of Data Analytics at Optoro, a reverse-logistics technology firm. 

Carolyn Oare (Col ’17 CM)  married David Wilkes on November 12, 2022 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington, DC. In attendance were Jean Wang (Col ’18 CM), Henry Hull (Arch ’16, ’17), Morgan Hull (Col ’17) and Kathleen DiSanto (Col ’05). Carolyn and David are living in Arlington, Virginia while David is stationed at Andrews Air Force Base.

Matt Trogdon (Col ’04 CM) and Sarah Devine were married on June 18, 2022 in Washington, DC. Matt is a financial advisor at Craftwork Capital, LLC, an independent advisory firm in the DC area. Sara is a foreign service officer at the U.S. Department of State. The couple currently lives in Washington with their beloved rescue pup, Maisie.

Ali Shaw (Col ’12 CM) married FortHouse Studios illustrator Joe Rosshirt on Aug. 13, 2022 at The Towers in Narragansett, Rhode Island. The ceremony was officiated by Jane Carrick (Col ’12 CM), with many ’Hoos in attendance. The couple lives in South Portland, Maine, with their Lab mix Astro.

Paola A. Castillo (Com ’13 CM) and Matthew T. Gregus (Com ’13, ’14) celebrated their one year wedding anniversary on May 21, 2022. They were married at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church in Washington D.C. The couple will be moving to Tampa, Florida with their one-year-old pug, Gnocchi, and continue to work for the federal Risk and Financial Advisory practice of Deloitte & Touche LLP. 

Wilson Weber (Engr ’13 CM) and his wife Ani McDowell celebrated their Feb 2020 California wedding with a belated East Coast reception at Charlottesville’s The Space Downtown on Oct 16, 2021. Fellow Wahoos in attendance included John Weber (Com ’84 CM), Joey Murphy (Engr ’12 CM), Kyle Brew (Engr ’13 CM), Kylene Brew (Engr ’13 CM), Patrick Brown (Engr ’13), Chris Curtin (Com ’13), Chris Millisits (Col ’13 CM), Andrew Noh (Engr ’13 CM), Jared Arrington (Col ’14 CM), Heidi Trott (Col ’14 CM), Will Vieth (Engr ’14, Law ’19 CM), Carter King (Engr ’15 CM), Taylor Chamness (Col ’17 CM), Zoe Grippo (Col ’18 CM), Jake Weber (Engr ’18 CM), Eileen Cowdery (Darden ’19) and Hank Weber (Engr ’20 CM). Will and Ani reside in Denver, Colorado, where Ani is a senior product manager at Split and Will is a consulting and engineering lead at Google.

Dr. Nicholas C. Maliszewskyj (Col ’89 CM) and Ms. Pamela Baldwin (Col ’89 CM) first met in the Hancock dormitory stairwell in August 1985, and they formed a close friendship that has spanned over 36 years. They were married on Mar. 12, 2022, in Frederick, Maryland with their four adult children and many friends and family in attendance. The couple will reside in Frederick following a brief honeymoon in Bermuda. Wahoowa!

Roscoe Scarborough (Grad ’09, ’15) and Molly Petry (Col ’13 CM) were married on Mar. 11, 2022, in a private wedding ceremony at the Historic Brunswick Courthouse in Brunswick, Georgia. The couple resides on St. Simons Island, Georgia.

Halley Bogart (Col ’08) and William House, USA Ret., were married on Feb. 24, 2022, in San Diego, California. The Houses reside in Durham, North Carolina.

Ann Hewitt (Nurs ’79 CM) married Jon Gordon on New Year’s Day, 2020, on a shockingly warm and sunny Chicago day. The celebration took place in the historic landmark Chicago Athletic Association overlooking Lake Michigan, and the clouds over the lake turned pink as the sun set and the couple made their vows. A dinner reception featuring an 18-piece big band inspired nonstop dancing, led by the many ’Hoos in attendance. Guests included Allyson Wells Bakewell (Nurs ’81 CM), Barbara Cherney Andrukonis (Col ’79 CM), Beth Rasin (Col ’79 CM), Cindy Richardson Milton (Com ’79 CM), Don Havermann (Com ’76, Law ’80 CM), Geri Wright Miner (Com ’79 CM), Hughes Bakewell (Com ’81 CM), Kathy Simmons Neel (Com ’79 CM), Kit Kammerer Schumaker (Nurs ’80 CM), Martha Weaver Preston (Com ’79 CM), Tracy Hyde Havermann (Educ ’79 CM) and Vicki Vasta Healy (Nurs ’81 CM). Ann and Jon live in Winnetka, Illinois. Ann works for STERIS Corporation and Jon is retired.

Frances Sarrett (COL ’14 CM) and Michael Wall (COL ’12 CM) were married on November 6, 2021 in Mobile, Alabama surrounded by friends and fellow ’Hoos.  Frances is the daughter of Kemper Sarrett III (Col ’82 CM) and Bowden Overbey Sarrett (Col ’82 CM), and the granddaughter of Kemper Sarrett Jr. (Col ’52 CM).  The couple lives in Richmond, Virginia.

Cristina Liebolt (Col ’10 CM) married fellow Wahoo Lincoln Foran (Col ’10 CM) on Sept. 5, 2021, at St. Paul’s Memorial Church in Charlottesville, Virginia, with a reception following at Farmington Country Club. Also in attendance were matron of honor Freyan Soonawalla (Col ’10, Darden ’19) and husband Rohan Bakshi (Col ’10); bridesmaids Ashley Craddock (Res ’23) and Margaret Kelly (Law ’15); and groomsman Tyler Duke (Col ’10 CM). Cristina and Lincoln first met at UVA, but they reconnected in New York City after running into one another at the William and Wall Street subway station. They now live in the Tenleytown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. with their black lab Rugby.

Neal Willetts (Educ ’06) is delighted to announce his engagement to Elijah Thomas Lee Akers, an IT Specialist in the US Navy currently serving on the USS George Washington.  The couple met in February 2020 when Neal was bartending an event for Eli’s ship, and as people say, the rest is history!  They are tentatively planning a spring 2023 wedding.  As Eli will have just gotten out of the Navy, the couple plans to reside in Eli’s native Columbus, Ohio after the wedding.  The couple have three cats: Augustus, Sulla and Pip.  

Bryan Thomas (COL ’10 CM) married his college sweetheart, Lisa Hamilton (COL ’11, EDUC ’11 CM), on Juneteenth, June 19, 2021. The couple wed in Washington, D.C. surrounded by family and fellow ‘Hoos.
