“Birth” Class Notes

Zachary “Tyler” Carrico (Com ’16) and Kari Heavenrich (Com ’16) welcomed their first child, Bryn Leigh Carrico, on June 21, 2025. Bryn Leigh’s grandparents include John Carrico (Com ’86, Darden ’91 CM) and the late Sheri Leigh Carrico (Educ ’87 CM). Tyler is managing partner of Thayer Investment Partners in San Francisco; Kari is a vice president at Rockpoint. The family lives in Larkspur, California.

Callie Anne Bateman (Nurs ’16 CM) and her husband, Max Stevenson (Col ’16), welcomed their first child, Sabrina Jade Stevenson, in October 2025. The family lives in Alexandria, Virginia, where Bateman is director of nursing for Pediatric Associates of Alexandria, and Stevenson is doing a post-doctoral fellowship in neuroscience at Georgetown University. Sabrina is the first grandchild of Mark Denton Bateman (Col ’79, Engr ’86 CM) and his wife, Paula Anne Bateman, and is the niece of Sam Stevenson (Engr ’24) and also of Chelsea Lauren Bateman (Nurs ’13 CM) and her husband, Janis Heuschmid.

Arin Mitchell Peter (Com ’13) and her husband Wes welcomed their second child, Coulson, and wrote a children’s book, Hello Baby! Love, Josie, which celebrates their growing family from their dog’s point of view. They hope families, young readers and dog lovers will enjoy the book, and they’re excited to show their kids around Grounds soon.

Cristina Liebolt Foran (Col ’10 CM) and Lincoln Foran (Col ’10 CM) made it to their 15-year Reunions with 2-year-old Susanna Walton Foran and 9-week old Eugenia Lee Foran, who was born March 29. Susanna loved being back on the lawn and introducing baby Eugenia to the grounds. The girls’ matching outfits were given to them by friends Michelle Wagner (Col ’10) and Freyan Soonawalla (Col ’10, Darden ’19). The Forans look forward to continuing to take the girls down to Charlottesville as they grow up!

Kathryn Wymer Clarke (Col ’14) and Philipp Clarke (Col ’15 CM) welcomed their son, Benedict Philip Maria Clarke, in October 2024. Benedict is also the grandson of John Wymer (Law ’74 CM) and the nephew of Mason Wymer (College ’01 CM) and Sarah Wymer Raj (Educ ’17, 21).

Aaron Peters (Engr ’01 CM) and his wife, Stephanie, welcomed their fourth child, Sophia, May 25, 2023, and their fifth child, Margaret, July 24, 2025.

Molly Elizabeth Beauchemin (Col ’12 CM) and her husband, Rishi Paul Singh (Col ’11 CM) welcomed their third baby, Iris Oak Singh, in June. Iris is baby brother to two girls, a 4-year-old named Cypress and 2-year-old named Lilac. Cypress, Lilac and Iris have all spent many beautiful hours rocking in the same rocking chair that used to sit outside of their mother’s former Lawn room, 32 East.

Mackenzie Karnes Duncan (Col ’17 CM) and her husband, William Earnhardt Duncan, welcomed their first baby, William “Hales” Duncan on March 9, 2025, weighing 8 lbs. 3 oz. and stretching 20.5 inches long. Mackenzie sings the “Good Old Song” to Baby Hales as his evening lullaby.

Caroline Massie-DeJarnette (Col ’13 CM) and Richard DeJarnette (Com ’13 CM) welcomed their second child, Leon Henry DeJarnette, on March 1, 2025. Leon joins big brother Hugh, and is the grandson of William Elliott DeJarnette (Col ’73 CM) and Barbara Jeanne DeJarnette (Educ ’78, ’82 CM). The family lives in Richmond.

Jerry Chen (Col ’14 CM) and his wife, Susan Russell, welcomed their first child, Millicent “Millie” Chen, in January. The family lives in New York.

Paul Hodskins (Col ’12 CM) and his wife, Katie, celebrated the birth in August of their son, James Roger “J.R.” Hodskins, who joined two-year-old Addison at home in Leesburg, Virginia.

Nerissa Neal Rouzer (Col ’06 CM) and Garett Michael Rouzer (Arch ’05 CM) welcomed a daughter, Alexandra Elise, on April 10, 2024. She joins big brothers Ethan and Owen. The family lives in Charlottesville.

Monica N. Melmer, MD, MS (Col ’11, Med ’17 CM) and Patrick D. Melmer, MD (Col ’12, Med ’17 CM) welcomed their third child, Harrison James, on July 1, 2024. He is adored by his sisters, Kennedy Caroline (4) and Madison Grace (2). His favorite lullaby is the Good Old Song. Now that they are outnumbered, the Drs. Melmer have switched from traditional man-to-man coverage to the Pack Line Defense. The family lives in Richmond where Monica and Patrick are assistant professors in the Division of Addiction Medicine and Department of Surgery, respectively, at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Susan Shapiro (Col ’10 CM) and husband Zach Shapiro (Eng ’09 CM) welcomed their second child and first baby girl Selma Finette on March 28, 2024, in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Natalie Morris (Col ’08, Law ’12 CM) and her husband Christopher Hanway welcomed identical twin girls, Kathryn and Clara Hanway, to the world on June 30, 2023. The family (including two greyhounds) lives in Alexandria, Virginia.

Erica Stephenson (Nurs ’11 CM) and Caleb Stephenson (Com ’08 CM) welcomed their daughter, Isabel Charlotte Stephenson, on Sept. 27, 2023. The family lives in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Catherine Jansch (Col ’13, Med ’18 CM) and Paul Andrew Jarasek Jr. welcomed their first child, Paul Andrew Jarasek III, on December 26th, 2023. 

Jonathan G. Malacarne (Col ’09 CM) and Janet E. Horsager welcomed a son, Ari Horsager Malacarne, on December 13, 2023.

Christina Keenan (Col ’12, Educ ’12) and Jack Keenan (Col ’11 CM), welcomed their son, Myles Eslin, Jan. 19, 2023. He joins his big sister, Charlotte Anne, who will turn 4 in December. 

Caroline Higgins Languasco (Engr ’11 CM) and Jon Languasco (Engr ’15) welcomed their second child, Archer James, on January 19, 2023. Archer has already visited Grounds twice. Big sister Jules is elated.

Kevin LaPorta (Engr ’09) and Jennifer Murphy LaPorta (Col ’10 CM) welcomed a son, Garrett Jack, on September 23, 2023. He joins big sister Lillian (age 7) and big brother Dylan (age 3).

Christina Polenta (Com ’09 CM) and Eric Magenheimer (Com ’09 CM) welcomed their second child, Luke Thomas Magenheimer, in June 2023. The family lives in Oakton, Virginia. 

Julia Tazelaar (Col ’16 CM) and her husband Joe Wells welcomed their first son, Winton “Win” Mac Tazelaar-Wells on July 28, 2023. He is the first grandson of Eric Tazelaar (Arch ’82 CM). Julia is a teacher at the Dwight-Englewood School and Joe is a Manager of Data Analytics for Robert Wood Johnson Hospital. The family lives in Teaneck, New Jersey. 

Milton F. “Eric” Tyler IV (Col ’14 CM) and Samantha L. Tyler (Col ’14, Educ ’14 CM) celebrated the birth of their first child, Milton F. “Finn” Tyler V on July 31st, 2023.  They live in Cincinnati, Ohio, where Eric is completing his general surgery residency and Samantha works in financial literacy education for the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. 

Luke Hopkins (Engr ’08) and Sara Hutter Hopkins (Com ’08, ’09 CM) lovingly welcomed a second son, Owen Hutter, on April 20, 2023. The family, including big brother Will, lives in Greensboro, North Carolina.

CJ Bowie (Com ’14) and Kathleen Bowie (Col ’13, Nurs ’20 CM) welcomed a daughter, Chloe Grace, on June 13, 2023. 

Sabrina K. Mendez (Col ’09 CM) and her husband welcomed twin daughters, Riley and Skyler, on May 19, 2023. Mendez serves as a district administrator for Orange County (Fla.) Public Schools overseeing kindergarten through 12th grade Multi-Tiered System of Supports and Interventions. 

Christina Polenta (Com ’09 CM) and Eric Magenheimer (Com ’09 CM) welcomed their first child, Grace Elizabeth Magenheimer, in February 2023. The family lives in Oakton, Virginia.

Sarah Elaine Hart (Col ’10 CM) and Patrick Higgins (Col ’10, Darden ’16 CM) joyfully welcomed their second child, Celeste Hart Higgins, in September 2022. The couple hopes their first child, Orion, will forgive them for neglecting to announce his birth in April 2020.

Courtney Jones Hamlett (Col ’12 CM) and Christian Hamlett welcomed their son, Campbell Edward, on March 28, 2023. Campbell is the couple’s first child. The family lives in Richmond, Virginia.

Danielle Childress MacRae (Col ’16, Batten ’17 CM) and James MacRae (Engr ’14 CM) welcomed a daughter, Ivy Katharine MacRae, Feb. 6, 2023. Ivy is the couple’s first child and named after the Ivy area in Charlottesville. The family lives in Los Angeles.

Carolina Ferrerosa Young (Col ’09 CM) and Daniel T. Young (Col ’07 CM) welcomed their second child, Gabriel Miguel, on Jan. 22nd, 2023. Ms. Young is economic policy adviser to U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown in Washington, D.C., and Mr. Young is an appellate counsel in the Office of the General Counsel for the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C. The family lives in Reston, Virginia. 

Jeremy Ebrahim (Com ’00 CM) and Alexandra Hume Ellen Ebrahim (Col ’00 CM) welcomed a son, Westley Tucker Hume Ebrahim, on October 24, 2022. Westley joins big brothers Jameson, Preston, and Carter. The family lives in Chatham, New Jersey.

Allison Raymond (Nurs ’11 CM) and Michael Raymond (Grad ’22) welcomed their son, Luke Christopher, on March 3, 2023. The couple lives in Boston.

William “Billy” Skrobacz (Col ’13, Educ ’14, Darden ’21 CM) and Emily D. Skrobacz (Educ ’15 CM) welcomed Charlotte Anne “Lottie” Skrobacz to the world Feb. 8, 2023. 

Sarah (Rose) Carlin (Engr ’05, Com ’13) and her husband, Matt, welcomed their first child, Nathan Edward, on March 12, 2022. The family lives in Northern Virginia where Sarah is an IT strategist for Booz Allen Hamilton and Matt is a sales engineering manager for Splunk. 

Christopher Winter (Col ’07 CM) and Megan Van Syckle Winter (Com ’09 CM) welcomed a son, Brooks Christopher, on August 18, 2022. The family, including proud sister Caroline, lives in Charlottesville.
