Kristin Riddick (Col ’95 CM)
Kristin Riddick (Col ’95 CM) and her husband, David Kirkwood, welcomed a son, Emory Thomas Kirkwood, in November 2015. Ms. Riddick had her third book in the “Kat McGee” series, Kat McGee and the Thanksgiving Turkey Train (2015), published by In This Together Media, a company founded by Saira Rao (Col ’96) and Carey Albertine (Col ’96 L/M). Her previous two books are Kat McGee and the Halloween Costume Caper (2013), and Kat McGee Saves America (2014). Ms. Riddick currently works doing voice-overs for television and film in Los Angeles.
Lara Gehl (Col ’01)
Lara Gehl (Col ’01) and Matthew Gehl (Engr ’02) welcomed a daughter, Penelope Helaina, on Aug. 18, 2015. Penelope joins sister Adelaide, 3. The family lives in San Carlos, California.
Lydia Xu (Com ’06)
Lydia Xu (Com ’06) and Jeffrey M. Zolman were married on June 27, 2015, in Washington, D.C. Ms. Zolman is the director of customer development and operations at Leo Health, a pediatric health care technology company, and Mr. Zolman is the vice president at RFE Investment Partners, a private equity firm in New Canaan, Connecticut. The couple met at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and currently lives in Manhattan.
Elizabeth Philpott (Col ’03)
Elizabeth Philpott (Col ’03) has been promoted to counsel of the Washington Nationals baseball club in Washington, D.C. As counsel, Ms. Philpott handles various litigation and transactional matters for the team, the stadium and related charitable organizations.
Jonathan Stanley (Col ’98 CM)
Jonathan Stanley (Col ’98 CM) has been elected a member of the law firm of Bass Berry & Sims. He works in the firm’s Nashville office, where his practice involves various corporate and securities matters, including mergers and acquisitions, securities filings, corporate governance and other strategic issues. Before joining Bass Berry & Sims, Mr. Stanley was a shareholder at Harwell Howard Hyne Gabbert & Manner.
David Melon (Col ’03 CM)
David Melon (Col ’03 CM) and Jennifer Sage Melon (Col ’03 L/M) welcomed a daughter, Alexandra Leigh, on June 4, 2015. She joins brother Ethan Grant, 5, and sister Genevieve Sage, 3. The family lives in Hickory, North Carolina.
Byron Dickson (Arch ’63)
Byron Dickson (Arch ’63) has been awarded the Federal Aviation Administration’s Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award, which recognizes pilots who have demonstrated professionalism, skill and aviation expertise by maintaining safe operations for 50 or more years. Mr. Dickson is president and CEO of Roanoke-based Dickson Architects & Associates and the author of The National D-Day Memorial: The Evolution of an Idea (Bison Printing, 2011).
Praveen Kathpal (Col ’02, Darden ’16 CM)
Praveen Kathpal (Col ’02, Darden ’16 CM) and his wife, Sarah Koch, welcomed a son, Milan Fredrick, on March 2, 2016. The family lives in Alexandria, Virginia.
Vicki Weavil (Col ’78)
Vicki Weavil (Col ’78) is an author with Month9Books. She recently published Facsimile, a young adult science fiction novel. Her young adult fantasy novel, Crown of Ice, book one in the “Snow Queen Saga,” was published in 2014. Book two, Scepter of Fire, will be published in fall 2016, and book three, Orb of Light, in 2017. Ms. Weavil is also under contract to publish another fantasy novel, The Diamond Thimble, in 2017.
Christina Froehlich (Col ’08, Educ ’08)
Christina Froehlich (Col ’08, Educ ’08) and Andrew Froehlich (Engr ’09) welcomed a daughter, Anna Catherine, on March 5, 2016. The family lives in West Orange, New Jersey, where Mr. Froehlich works for Audible.com and Ms. Froehlich is a middle school science teacher.
Leslie Lillard (Col ’04 CM)
Leslie Lillard (Col ’04 CM) and her husband, John, welcomed a daughter, Lucille “Lucy” Rose, on Oct. 1, 2015. Lucy joins sister Molly Elizabeth, 5. The family lives in Madison, Virginia.
Ryan Griswold (Engr ’02 CM)
Ryan Griswold (Engr ’02 CM) and his wife, Caitlin, welcomed a son, Hunter Patrick, on March 12, 2016. The family lives in New York City.
Christopher Marsh (Col ’06 CM)
Christopher Marsh (Col ’06 CM) and Christina Hammond Marsh (Col ’06 L/M) welcomed a son, Henry Cooper, on Dec. 13, 2015. The family lives in Austin, Texas.
John Kang (Col ’94)
John Kang (Col ’94) published his first novel, The Dragon Scale Lute, a multicultural high fantasy epic, in March of 2016.
Erin Seney (Col ’00 CM)
Erin Seney (Col ’00 CM) and Bryan Smouther (Engr ’00,’04 L/M) welcomed a son, Nolan Seney Smouther, on July 21, 2015. Nolan is the grandson of Franklin Seney Jr. (Col ’74 L/M) and Rebecca Schmidt Mazzarella (Col ’74 L/M), the nephew of Kevin Seney (Col ’14) and the great-nephew of Richard Seney (Com ’76) and William Schmidt (Engr ’71, Law ’74). The family resides in Melbourne, Florida. Ms. Seney is an assistant research scientist on the faculty at the University of Central Florida, and Mr. Smouther works as a lead engineer for the Boeing Co.

Barbara Wall (Col ’76, Law ’79 CM) has been named senior vice president and chief legal officer for Gannett Co. Gannett is a news and information company that publishes 92 daily newspapers, including USA Today.
Robert Scearce (Engr ’13)
Robert Scearce (Engr ’13) has been promoted from process engineer to continuous improvement manager at Monogram Foods in Martinsville, Virginia.
Colleen Rigby (Col ’13 CM)
Colleen Rigby (Col ’13 CM) and Paul Babiak were married Oct. 27, 2015, in Fair Haven, New Jersey. The couple lives in New York City, where Ms. Rigby is a consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers and Mr. Babiak is an auditor at Deloitte.
Mary Gordon (Col ’10, Educ ’10 CM)
Mary Gordon (Col ’10, Educ ’10 CM) and Derek Bradley Murray (Educ ’10) were married at the UVA Chapel on Nov. 7, 2015. The couple lives in Northern Virginia, where Ms. Murray teaches in Alexandria and Mr. Murray teaches in Vienna.
Caleb Dunn (Col ’10)
Caleb Dunn (Col ’10) and Danielle MacGregor Dunn (Arch ’11) have launched EddiKit, a startup that offers a greeting card subscription service. Subscribers register dates of occasions that call for a greeting card and receive a monthly kit containing a card, a stamp and other essentials. The kit arrives in time for users to mail cards for the occasions, reducing the possibility of forgetting the date.
