Tom Kelly (Com ’86)
Tom Kelly (Com ’86) has joined the class of 2014 of Leadership South Carolina, a statewide leadership program that provides gifted and highly motivated South Carolinians an opportunity to advance their leadership qualities while broadening their understanding of issues facing the state. Col. Kelly is a senior Army adviser to the South Carolina Army National Guard in Columbia, S.C.
Chris FitzGerald (Engr ’86 CM)
Chris FitzGerald (Engr ’86 CM) has been appointed chief executive officer for Control Devices, a manufacturer of engineered valves and other flow control products for industry segments and applications, in St. Louis. Mr. FitzGerald and his wife, Joanne Donohue FitzGerald (Nurs ’88 L/M), plan to relocate their family to St. Louis.

Peter Belden (Com ’86 CM)
Peter Belden (Com ’86 CM) has been named general manager of Packaging Coordinators Inc.’s Rockford, Ill., facilities. The site supports pharmaceutical and biotech packaging services for clinical and commercial medicines, as well as medical device and consumer health care products. Mr. Belden has worked in the packaging industry for more than 25 years, and has previously headed PCI operations in Hay-on-Wye, Wales, and served as senior vice president of sales and marketing for PCI in Rockford.
Renee Gutiérrez (Col ’84, Grad ’97, Grad ’08 CM)
Renee Gutiérrez (Col ’84, Grad ’97, Grad ’08 CM) has joined the Longwood University faculty as an assistant professor of Spanish. Previously, she taught at Hiram College in Ohio. Ms. Gutiérrez plans to continue focusing on dual areas of research: she has recently published articles on 18th-century Spanish epic poetry and on the qualitative studies of student learning processes during immersed study abroad.

J. Walker (Col ’83 CM)
J. Walker (Col ’83 CM) has been elected firm chair of Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton in Atlanta. He has served as the firm’s managing partner since June 2012 and focuses his legal practice on large complex litigation matters, including class actions, technology and telecommunications cases.
Amy Feldman (Nurs ’83, Nurs ’84)
Amy Feldman (Nurs ’83, Nurs ’84) authored the chapter “Guidelines for Breastfeeding” in the 2013 edition of the textbook Pediatric Primary Care Practice Guidelines for Nurses.
Julia Walton (Col ’08)

Julia Walton (Col ’08) and Jordan Brock Kaericher (Law ’09) were married July 6, 2013, in Lyme, N.H. The couple resides in Santa Monica, Calif., where Mr. Kaericher is a lawyer at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan and Ms. Kaericher works in advertising for Rubin Postaer and Associates.
John Thompson (Col ’81)
John Thompson (Col ’81) published his second novel, Love and Lament, in August 2013.
William Horbaly (Col ’81 CM)
William Horbaly (Col ’81 CM) has been elected to serve as the president of the Virginia Association of Orthodontists. Dr. Horbaly has practiced orthodontics in Charlottesville since 1996. He also serves as a part-time assistant professor in the department of dentistry at the U.Va. School of Medicine.
Ginger Cahoon (Col ’79 CM)
Ginger Cahoon (Col ’79 CM) recently retired as deputy chief of the relay satellite division in the space systems group of the communications directorate of the National Reconnaissance Office in Chantilly, Va., after working for the federal government in various capacities since 1980. She began her career as a cartographer with the Defense Mapping Agency/Hydrographic Topographic Center, preparing various charts to support navigational missions, and later worked for other offices in the DMA and then for the CIA before returning to finish out her career with the DMA and the NRO. She lives in Fairfax, Va., with her husband, Bob; and their two children, Rachel and Robbie.

Dial Parrott (Grad ’76, Law ’80)
Dial Parrott (Grad ’76, Law ’80) published his first book, The Genius of Venice: Piazza San Marco and the Making of the Republic, with Rizzoli Ex Libris, an imprint of Rizzoli International. The book provides a comprehensive explanation of the architectural evolution of St. Mark’s Square, a supreme example of Western communal architecture, and shows how Venetian politics and economics influenced the square’s development.
Mark Hudson (Col ’75 CM)
Mark Hudson (Col ’75 CM) received the 2013 North Carolina Office of Rural Health and Community Care Board Member Award for his service on the board of directors of the Cleveland County HealthCare System (CLECO) Primary Care Network, based in Shelby, N.C. This recognition noted his leadership, service and dedication to the citizens of Cleveland County and rural North Carolina.
Thomas Rouse (Engr ’75 CM)
Thomas Rouse (Engr ’75 CM) is serving his second term as mayor of Erlanger, Ky. A lawyer who is currently serving a one-year term as president of the Kentucky Bar Association, Mr. Rouse maintains a private solo law practice and plans to create a task force to study what to do with abandoned law practices.

Arnold Goldin (Col ’71 CM)
Arnold Goldin (Col ’71 CM) has been appointed to the Tennessee Court of Appeals, Western Section, by Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam. Mr. Goldin has been chancellor in the Shelby County Chancery Court since September 2002. Prior to his judicial appointment, he had been in private practice since 1974, concentrating on civil litigation in state and federal courts. He and his wife, Shara Lynn, have a son, Joshua; a daughter, Rebecca; and four grandchildren.
Norman Askins (Arch ’68 CM)
Norman Askins (Arch ’68 CM) received the 2013 A. Hays Town Award from Southern Living magazine. An Atlanta architect who specializes in the classical style, he was honored for training a new generation of tradition-based architects and for forging a link between the past and present by designing more than 500 homes across the South that combine traditional architecture with the conveniences of modern living.

Gordon Kirk (Engr ’67, Engr ’69, Engr ’72 CM)
Gordon Kirk (Engr ’67, Engr ’69, Engr ’72 CM), professor of mechanical engineering in the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the title of “professor emeritus” by the Virginia Tech board of visitors. He has taught at Virginia Tech since 1985, where his work in mechanical vibrations focused on bearing and seal excited instabilities and led to a better understanding of rotating machinery. He has authored or co-authored more than 175 peer-reviewed journal and conference articles, book chapters and reviews, and holds four patents and one patent that’s pending. Mr. Kirk has also advised many master’s degree and doctoral dissertations, helping students develop successful careers in both academic and industrial settings.
William Slaughter (Law ’66)
William Slaughter (Law ’66) has been selected for inclusion in the 2014 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in the categories of government relations practice and public finance law. He is a founding member of Haskell Slaughter Young & Rediker in Birmingham, Ala., where his law practice focuses on the areas of public finance, state and local government law, governmental relations and civil litigation.
John Marsellus (Col ’60 CM)
John Marsellus (Col ’60 CM) received an honorary degree from Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, N.Y., during the college’s commencement ceremony on May 18, 2013. As former chairman of the Marsellus Casket Co., the college honored him for his professional achievements, creative philanthropy, volunteer service and commitment to the central New York community.
Molly Rosedale (Col ’00)
Molly Rosedale (Col ’00) and her husband, Matthew, welcomed a son, Kaden Paul, on May 19, 2013. Kaden is the nephew of Amy Francis Dechary (Col ’96, Educ ’00 L/M) and Paul Dechary (Col ’96 L/M). The Rosedales currently reside in London.

Heather Evans (Col ’93, Grad ’04, Res ’07 CM)
Heather Evans (Col ’93, Grad ’04, Res ’07 CM) became one of the first 8,000 Google Glass Explorers after winning Google’s #ifihadglass contest in March 2013. A trauma surgeon at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Dr. Evans is using Glass to explore how wearable computing might be used to enhance surgical training. Use of technology to improve surgical care is a theme in Dr. Evans’ research, and she leads a multidisciplinary team in developing mPOWEr, a mobile app for patients to use following surgery to track the condition of their own surgical wounds and facilitate communication after they leave the hospital.
