John Whitfield (Col ’77, Law ’81)
John Whitfield has been appointed co-chair of the newly created Virginia Access to Justice Commission by Supreme Court Chief Justice Cynthia Kinser. Supreme Court Justice S. Bernard Goodwyn will serve as the other co-chair of the 18-member commission, comprised of judges, lawyers, and other stakeholders. The mission of the Commission, created by order of the Supreme Court of Virginia in September 2013, is to promote equal access to justice in Virginia, with particular emphasis on the civil legal needs of Virginia residents. In establishing the Commission, Virginia joins 28 other states with Access to Justice Commissions charged with expanding access to civil justice for low income and disadvantaged persons. Whitfield is the executive director of Blue Ridge Legal Services, the non-profit legal aid society that provides free civil legal assistance to low-income residents of the Shenandoah and Roanoke Valleys of Virginia.
Tracey Schaefer (Col ’94 CM)
Tracey Zemitis Schaefer (Col ’94) and her husband, John, welcomed their second child, Wyatt John, on October 30, 2013. Wyatt joins a brother, Luke, 2. Wyatt and Luke are the nephews of Darrell Zemitis (Col ’90) and W. Scott Zemitis (Engr ’94).

Michael Foroobar (Com ’07 CM) and Kristen E. Dunbar (Col ’08) were married May 18, 2013, in Atlanta. The couple currently resides in Boston, where Mr. Foroobar is an analyst with Google and Ms. Dunbar is completing an ophthalmology residency at Tufts Medical Center.

Jen McCallum (College 07, Field Hockey) married Matt Oliver (Curry 05, Soccer) on October 12, 2013 at The River Course on Kiawah Island, SC.
Lindsay Bien (Col ’09 CM)
Lindsay Bien (Col ’09 CM) and Robert Helwig were married June 29, 2013, in Richmond, Va., where the couple currently resides. Ms. Bien received a master of education degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in May 2013 and now works as a school counselor in Henrico County, Va.
Anastasia Posner (Col ’95 CM)
Anastasia Grace Allain (95) and Ryan Ansley Posner were married on June 8th, 2013 in Harrisonburg, VA. The couple resides in Atlanta, GA where Mrs. Posner is a Sales Support Manager with Travelport and Mr. Posner is an ERP Technology Consultant with McGladrey.

Patricia Gallant (Col ’86 CM) was promoted to associate director of business systems analysis at Sun Life Financial in Windsor, Conn.
Saul Golden (Arch ’92 CM)
Saul Golden (Arch ’92 CM) edited a book, Healthcare and Architecture: Northern Ireland’s Legacy, part of a three-volume box set about health, housing and education design published by PLACE, the Northern Ireland Built Environment Centre. Mr. Golden, a Royal Institute of British Architects chartered architect and lecturer at the Belfast School of Architecture, wrote the book’s foreword and a case study on recent healthcare buildings in Northern Ireland. He lives in Belfast with his wife, Nicola; and their three sons: Jack, Ben and Joseph.
Carl Markowitz (Com ’67 CM)
Carrie (Markowitz) Balsam (Col. 1999) and her husband, Ethan, announce the birth of Lila’s sister, Maris Bryn Balsam, on November 10, 2013. The couple resides in Gaithersburg, MD. Maris is the granddaughter of Carl S. Markowitz (Commerce ’67).
Stephen Tisinger (Col ’74)
Recently retired as Pastor of Christ Our Anchor Presbyterian Church in Annapolis, MD and has relocated to Savannah, GA with his family. Prior to serving the Church, he retired from the Federal Government with 25 years service with the US Geological Survey, Minerals Management Service and the National Park Service. He retired as Deputy Chief of Accounting Operations for the NPS.
Christopher D’Angelo (Col ’75, Law ’78)
Christopher Scott D’Angelo was the President of Session of the program, Collective and Other Forms of Multiple/Mass Actions: How Far Are We in the EU Member States and the EU and How Far Do We Want to Go? Alternative Ways to Deal with Multiple or Mass Claims?” presented at the International Association of Defense Counsel European Meeting in Brussels, Belgium, May, 2013. Mr. D’Angelo is Chairman of the Products Liability, Mass Claims & Risk Management Section and Chairman of International Practice Group at Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads LLP, based out of Philadelphia, PA and New York, NY. The International Association of Defense Counsel, which is the oldest international association of lawyers representing major corporations, both in-house and outside counsel. It consists of approximately 2400 invitation-only, peer-reviewed members who are private, corporate and insurance lawyers from more than 40 countries.
Christopher D’Angelo (Col ’75, Law ’78)
Christopher Scott D’Angelo was a moderator and speaker at the International Corporate Counsel College in Paris, France, in November 2013. The ICCC is an interactive forum that addresses the very latest and coming legal issues of particular importance to in-house corporate counsel in Europe and internationally. It is an unique place where in-house lawyers can discuss issues of concern among themselves and with their outside defense counsel in a dynamic workshop of practical information and analysis. The ICCC is presented each year by the International Association of Defense Counsel, which is the oldest international association of lawyers representing major corporations, both in-house and outside counsel. It consists of approximately 2400 invitation-only, peer-reviewed members who are private, corporate and insurance lawyers from more than 40 countries.
This year’s College was entitled “Mastering New Challenges in a Global World: Six Ways to Meet Your Neighbor’s Legal Culture”.

Heidi Lieske (Com ’01 CM)
Heidi Lieske (Com ’01 CM) recently left her job as brand manager for CoverGirl Cosmetics at Procter & Gamble to focus full-time on her startup, Borrow Mini Couture, an online designer children’s clothing rental service for special occasions. She lives outside of Baltimore with her husband, Alex; and their two young sons, Cobb and Fitch.

Kate Fleming (Col ’08 CM) and Patrick C. “P.C.” Fleming (Grad ’09, ’12) were married Oct. 26, 2013, at River Farm in Alexandria, Va. The couple currently resides in central Florida, where they both work for Rollins College.
Dawn Crim (Col ’89 CM)
Dawn Crim (Col ’89 CM) received the Woman of Achievement Award from the Wisconsin Women of Color Network for her support and continuing commitment to enriching the lives of women of color in her community. Ms. Crim is the associate dean for external relations in the University of Wisconsin, Madison, School of Education.
John Vanderslice (Col ’83 CM)
John Vanderslice (Col ’83 CM) is an associate professor in the writing department at the University of Central Arkansas, where he teaches mostly creative writing. His collection of thematically linked short stories, Island Fog, surveys four centuries of the history of Nantucket Island, Mass., and will be published by Dialogos/Lavender Ink Press in 2014.
Kathryn Minton (Col ’06 CM)
Kathryn Minton (Col ’06 CM) has joined the Center for Constitutional Litigation law firm in Washington, D.C., as a litigation associate. She received a J.D. degree from Washington University Law School in St. Louis in 2010. Prior to joining the CCL, Ms. Minton held positions at the Missouri Court of Appeals for the Eastern District and the Supreme Court of Missouri.
