Carl Markowitz (Com ’67 CM)
Carrie (Markowitz) Balsam (Col. 1999) and her husband, Ethan, announce the birth of Lila’s sister, Maris Bryn Balsam, on November 10, 2013. The couple resides in Gaithersburg, MD. Maris is the granddaughter of Carl S. Markowitz (Commerce ’67).
Stephen Tisinger (Col ’74)
Recently retired as Pastor of Christ Our Anchor Presbyterian Church in Annapolis, MD and has relocated to Savannah, GA with his family. Prior to serving the Church, he retired from the Federal Government with 25 years service with the US Geological Survey, Minerals Management Service and the National Park Service. He retired as Deputy Chief of Accounting Operations for the NPS.

Christopher D’Angelo (Col ’75, Law ’78)
Christopher Scott D’Angelo was the President of Session of the program, Collective and Other Forms of Multiple/Mass Actions: How Far Are We in the EU Member States and the EU and How Far Do We Want to Go? Alternative Ways to Deal with Multiple or Mass Claims?” presented at the International Association of Defense Counsel European Meeting in Brussels, Belgium, May, 2013. Mr. D’Angelo is Chairman of the Products Liability, Mass Claims & Risk Management Section and Chairman of International Practice Group at Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads LLP, based out of Philadelphia, PA and New York, NY. The International Association of Defense Counsel, which is the oldest international association of lawyers representing major corporations, both in-house and outside counsel. It consists of approximately 2400 invitation-only, peer-reviewed members who are private, corporate and insurance lawyers from more than 40 countries.

Christopher D’Angelo (Col ’75, Law ’78)
Christopher Scott D’Angelo was a moderator and speaker at the International Corporate Counsel College in Paris, France, in November 2013. The ICCC is an interactive forum that addresses the very latest and coming legal issues of particular importance to in-house corporate counsel in Europe and internationally. It is an unique place where in-house lawyers can discuss issues of concern among themselves and with their outside defense counsel in a dynamic workshop of practical information and analysis. The ICCC is presented each year by the International Association of Defense Counsel, which is the oldest international association of lawyers representing major corporations, both in-house and outside counsel. It consists of approximately 2400 invitation-only, peer-reviewed members who are private, corporate and insurance lawyers from more than 40 countries.
This year’s College was entitled “Mastering New Challenges in a Global World: Six Ways to Meet Your Neighbor’s Legal Culture”.

Heidi Lieske (Com ’01 CM)
Heidi Lieske (Com ’01 CM) recently left her job as brand manager for CoverGirl Cosmetics at Procter & Gamble to focus full-time on her startup, Borrow Mini Couture, an online designer children’s clothing rental service for special occasions. She lives outside of Baltimore with her husband, Alex; and their two young sons, Cobb and Fitch.

Kate Fleming (Col ’08 CM)

Kate Fleming (Col ’08 CM) and Patrick C. “P.C.” Fleming (Grad ’09, ’12) were married Oct. 26, 2013, at River Farm in Alexandria, Va. The couple currently resides in central Florida, where they both work for Rollins College.

Dawn Crim (Col ’89 CM)
Dawn Crim (Col ’89 CM) received the Woman of Achievement Award from the Wisconsin Women of Color Network for her support and continuing commitment to enriching the lives of women of color in her community. Ms. Crim is the associate dean for external relations in the University of Wisconsin, Madison, School of Education.
John Vanderslice (Col ’83 CM)

John Vanderslice (Col ’83 CM) is an associate professor in the writing department at the University of Central Arkansas, where he teaches mostly creative writing. His collection of thematically linked short stories, Island Fog, surveys four centuries of the history of Nantucket Island, Mass., and will be published by Dialogos/Lavender Ink Press in 2014.
Kathryn Minton (Col ’06 CM)
Kathryn Minton (Col ’06 CM) has joined the Center for Constitutional Litigation law firm in Washington, D.C., as a litigation associate. She received a J.D. degree from Washington University Law School in St. Louis in 2010. Prior to joining the CCL, Ms. Minton held positions at the Missouri Court of Appeals for the Eastern District and the Supreme Court of Missouri.
Brian O’Grady (Col ’10 CM)
Brian O’Grady (Col ’10 CM) received a J.D. degree from Mercer University School of Law in Macon, Ga., in May 2013. He is now an associate with Sinnott Nuckols & Logan in Midlothian, Va., where he focuses his practice on insurance defense.

Meg Roughen (Engr ’02 CM)
Meg Ferguson Roughen (SEAS 2002) and her husband, Matt, welcomed a son, Hill Ferguson Roughen, on November 8, 2013. Hill joins big brother Tripp (2.5 yrs). The family lives in Atlanta, Georgia, where Meg works for Southern Company in Information Technology.
Justin Wilson (Col ’94)
Justin Wilson (Col ’94) is the writer and co-executive producer of A Slave in the White House, a 12-hour ABC television series about Paul Jennings, a Virginia-born slave who served as personal valet to President James Madison while at the same time working behind the scenes as a subversive anti-slavery activist. Based on Elizabeth Dowling Taylor’s best-selling book A Slave in the White House, the show will chronicle Jennings’ relationship with the Madison family and his journey to procure his own family’s freedom. The series is Mr. Wilson’s first foray into television. His debut feature film, LUV, premiered at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and earned him and his co-writer, also the film’s director, Sheldon Candis, a 2012 Humanitas Prize nomination.

Stacy Londrey (Col ’05 CM) and her husband, David, welcomed twin girls, Rebecca Dare and Hannah Brown, on June 24, 2013.
Geoffrey Drake (Col ’02)
Geoffrey Drake (Col ’02) has been elected partner at King & Spalding in Atlanta. As a member of the firm’s tort litigation and environmental policy practice group, he represents product manufacturers, primarily pharmaceutical and other life science companies, in nationwide high-exposure product liability, personal injury, toxic tort and commercial litigation cases.

Nancy Parr (Col ’80 CM) has been elected to serve a third term as commonwealth’s attorney for the city of Chesapeake, Va.
Andrew Pearson (Col ’02)
Andrew Pearson (Col ’02) has been appointed dean of the Cathedral Church of the Advent in Birmingham, Ala. The Very Reverend Pearson resides in Mountain Brook, Ala., with his wife, Lauren; and their three daughters.
Julie Gurney (Col ’97)

Julie Gurney (Col ’97) and her husband, Jason, welcomed a daughter, Olivia Auden, on Oct. 22, 2013. Olivia joins big brothers Peyton Michael, 11; and Mitchell Ryan, 8. The family resides in South Riding, Va.
