Katherine McKnew (Col ’02)
Katherine McKnew (Col ’02) and her husband, Joseph, welcomed a daughter, Anne Sidney Knott McKnew, on April 28, 2013. Anne Sidney joins big brother Joseph Andrews. The family resides in Virginia Beach.
Ross Perry (Col ’73 CM)
Ross Perry (Col ’73 CM) has retired from SunTrust Bank after a 40-year career in commercial banking. In May, he was elected to serve a three-year term as president general of the Society of the Cincinnati. George Washington’s officer corps and their French comrades founded the society in 1783 to preserve the values of and remember the sacrifices made during the American Revolution; their descendants continue that mission today from society headquarters in Washington, D.C.
F. Carpin (Col ’83)

F. Carpin (Col ’83) is the senior quality assurance coordinator of Capital One’s commercial bank. His pop music group, Cashmere Jungle Lords, has been making music for more than 30 years and recently placed 13 songs on the Showtime Network series Shameless, which stars William H. Macy. Mr. Carpin is the proud father to sons John, Evan and Frank.
Jenifer Jackson (Col ’99)
Jenifer Jackson (Col ’99) , general manager of the Comfort Inn Harrisonburg, has been selected to represent the Virginia Hospitality & Travel Association on the American Hotel & Lodging Association board of directors for a three-year term. Ms. Jackson, who has earned the designation of Certified Hotel Administrator, is a previous recipient of the AH&LA State Leadership Award and serves on the board of the Shenandoah Valley Travel Association. Previously, she served as chairwoman of the VH&TA and as president of the Virginia Hotel & Lodging Association.
Gretchen Johnson (Com ’95 CM)
Gretchen Johnson (Com ’95 CM) and her husband, Chris, welcomed their second child, Nathan Christopher, on Feb. 23, 2012. Nathan joins big sister Allison, 5. The family resides in South Riding, Va.

Jolie Sheffer (Grad ’03, Grad ’07)
Jolie Sheffer (Grad ’03, Grad ’07) published The Romance of Race: Incest, Miscegenation, and Multiculturalism in the United States, 1880-1930 with Rutgers University Press in January 2013. Ms. Sheffer was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor of English at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, in May 2013.
Shaun Rader (Col ’01)

Shaun Rader (Col ’01) and Ashleigh Boynton Rader (Col ’02 L/M) welcomed a daughter, Carys Jude, on July 17, 2012. Carys joins big brother Henry Wild, 2. The Raders live in Rowayton, Conn.

Jan Rabinowitz (Com ’75 CM)
Jan Rabinowitz (Com ’75 CM) has been named co-president-elect of the Well Spouse Association, a national 501(c)(3) organization that advocates for and addresses the needs of individuals caring for a chronically ill and/or disabled spouse or partner. Ms. Rabinowitz will begin serving a two-year term in October 2013. She continues to provide strategic research analysis and planning through her firm, January Consulting, based in Atlanta.
Shane Hudson (Engr ’97 CM)
Shane Hudson (Engr ’97 CM) and his wife, Brooke, welcomed a son, Jack, on April 3, 2013. Jack joins a big brother, Luke, 2. The family resides in Sugar Land, Texas, where Mr. Hudson is a shareholder in the Houston law firm of Fizer Beck Webster Bentley & Scroggins.

James Mundy (Educ ’71, Educ ’80)
James Mundy (Educ ’71, Educ ’80) has retired from the faculty of the Springfield College School of Human Services in Springfield, Mass., after 48 years of teaching in the field of education.

Walter Culpepper (Col ’68)
Walter Culpepper (Col ’68) has published a novel, The Replacement Son. The book, a psychological drama framed within an adventure story, follows Harry McChesney on his challenging life journey through Depression-era New Orleans, World War II and the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Dr. Culpeper has written poetry since his undergraduate days at the University and, after practicing and teaching pediatric cardiology for more than 25 years, has decided to focus on his writing.
Gesine Prado (Col ’92)

Gesine Prado (Col ’92) is a pastry chef and author. She published her third cookbook, Bake It Like You Mean It, with Abrams Books in March 2013. Her previous titles include Sugar Baby, Pie It Forward and the baking and business memoir My Life From Scratch.
Savannah Brown (Col ’06 CM)
Savannah Brown (Col ’06 CM) and Patrick Schuermann (Col ’06 L/M) were married at the University Chapel on April 5, 2013. The couple resides in Alexandria, Va., where Ms. Brown is a marketing manager at a local firm and Mr. Schuermann is a sales representative for Dentsply, a dental equipment manufacturer.
Christopher Termini (Com ’01, Law ’06)
Christopher Termini (Com ’01, Law ’06) and Julie Lappas were married on Oct. 8, 2011, in Indianapolis. The couple recently relocated from Washington, D.C., to Indianapolis, where Mr. Termini serves as director of legal affairs and assistant general counsel for the NCAA.

Amanda Castle (Col ’05 CM)

Amanda Castle (Col ’05 CM) and Christopher Palazzola (Col ’05) were married on Oct. 20, 2012, at Castle Hill Cider in Keswick, Va. Ms. Palazzola is the sister of Penny Castle Church (Col ’85 L/M) and the aunt of Emily Church (Col ’17). The couple resides in Atlanta, where Ms. Palazzola is a physician assistant with the Emory Dermatology Clinic, and Mr. Palazzola is a consultant for Deloitte.

Robert Graboyes (Col ’76 CM)
Robert Graboyes (Col ’76 CM) received the 2012 Outstanding Faculty Award from the Health Services Management and Leadership Student Association at the George Washington University. He is also president of the National Economists Club in Washington, D.C. Mr. Graboyes is the senior fellow for health and economics at the NFIB Research Foundation and teaches health economics at GWU, Virginia Commonwealth University and the U.Va. School of Nursing.
Craig Twentyman (Col ’68)
Craig Twentyman (Col ’68) was elected president of the Hawaii Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture Association. He is a licensed psychologist and certified abuse counselor who combines his clinical work with acupuncture practice.
Marion Hickman (Arch ’06)
Marion Hickman (Arch ’06) and Nicholas Meythaler (Com ’06) were married June 30, 2012, in Atlanta. The couple resides in New York City.

Kirk Knestis (Educ ’03)
Kirk Knestis (Educ ’03) has been named chief executive officer of Hezel Associates, an education research and consulting firm in Syracuse, N.Y. He has been with the company since 2009, previously serving as director of research and evaluation. Mr. Knestis has more than 10 years of experience managing education research projects and has worked as a business owner, classroom teacher and university program administrator.
Top
