John Moore (Col ’66 CM)
John Moore (Col ’66 CM) published Hostage of Paradox: A Qualmish Disclosure, a memoir about his military service during the Vietnam War. Mr. Moore is a highly decorated former Green Beret sergeant who participated in secret operations in North Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. Hostage of Paradox describes many of the little-known missions and close calls that he experienced.
Ralph Rives (Educ ’60)
Ralph Rives (Educ ’60) presented a lecture, “Nineteenth-Century Eastern Carolina Christmas Customs,” at the Christmas celebration of the town of Enfield, N.C., on Nov. 28, 2012, a program sponsored by the Enfield Restoration and Preservation Association. Mr. Rives’ talk focused on the years 1740-1840, the first century of Enfield’s existence, and discussed a few town legends and significant historic events, such as one of the first acts of rebellion against the British empire, recorded in 1759. Mr. Rives retired from the East Carolina University English department in 1992.
N. Connally (Col ’58, Med ’62, Res ’68 CM)
N. Connally (Col ’58, Med ’62, Res ’68 CM) was awarded the 2012 Ralph O. Claypoole Senior Memorial Award by the American College of Physicians. The award is given to an internist who has dedicated a professional lifetime to exemplary patient care, teaching and service to the profession and the community. Dr. Connally practiced general internal medicine in Washington, D.C., for 32 years, and since his retirement has served as a volunteer physician, including six years as medical director of the Arlington Free Clinic in Arlington, Va. He has also served on several not-for-profit boards, including the U.Va. Board of Visitors.

Mary Richman (Com ’00 CM)
Mary Richman (Com ’00 CM) and Jeffrey Richman (Com ’99 L/M) welcomed their third child, Eve Adeline, on June 25, 2012. Evie joins a sister, Noa, 5, and a brother, Patrick, 3. The family resides in Boston.
Howell O’Rear (Col ’02, Law ’07 CM)

Howell O’Rear (Col ’02, Law ’07 CM) has established a law firm, McInteer & O’Rear, in Nashville, Tenn. His practice focuses on music industry and health care litigation. Mr. O’Rear will also continue to assist clients in developing enforcement procedures to protect their intellectual property rights.
Nicole Boyle (Com ’01)

Danielle McCamey (Nurs ’03 CM)
Danielle McCamey (Nurs ’03 CM) and Steven J. Smith were married at The Beloved Hotel in Cancun, Mexico, in November 2012. Their wedding was featured in the Washington Post’s “On Love” section. Ms. Smith recently completed her first year as an acute care nurse practitioner with the surgical critical care service at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. She is one of the founding sisters of the Pi Chapter of Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority Inc., which recently celebrated 10 years of sisterhood at the University.
Dana Giacofci (Col ’04)
Dana Giacofci (Col ’04) and Sean Clark were married in Lexington, Ky., on Oct. 13, 2012. The couple currently resides in Washington, D.C. Ms. Giacofci was a visiting faculty member in the McIntire Department of Art studio program for the fall 2012 semester.
Alison Rios Millett McCartney (Grad ’00)
Alison Rios Millett McCartney (Grad ’00) co-edited a book, Teaching Civic Engagement: From Student to Active Citizen, with Elizabeth Bennion and Dick Simpson. The book was published by the American Political Science Association in February 2013. Ms. McCartney is an associate professor of political science at Towson University in Towson, Md., and former director of Towson’s international studies program.
Howell O’Rear (Col ’02, Law ’07 CM)

Howell O’Rear (Col. ’02, Law ’07) has started the law firm McInteer & O’Rear PLC in Nashville, Tennessee. His practice will focus on music industry and health care litigation. Howell will continue to assist clients in developing enforcement procedures to protect their intellectual property rights.
Sue Fiacco (Com ’85 CM)
Sue Fiacco (Com ’85 CM) is vice president of enterprise solution delivery at CBS Corp., a mass media company that creates and distributes industry-leading content across a variety of platforms to audiences around the world.

Alice Taylor (Engr ’78)
Alice Taylor (Engr ’78) was a guest lecturer at Boston College Law School on the subject of elder law and estate planning for families with special needs children. Ms. Taylor’s law practice is in Waltham, Mass.
Eugene III (Col ’09 CM)
Eugene III (Col ’09 CM) published an article, “Library Catalogs and the Changing Political World,” in the February 2013 issue of College & Research Libraries News.
Jaime Wisegarver (Col ’05 CM)
Lauren Pool (CLAS ’05) married Eduardo Rodrigues in Orange, VA on November 17, 2012. Lauren recently earned a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Miami University, and will be moving to Jakarta, Indonesia in July, along with Edu, where they will both teach at the Jakarta International School.
Ilan Kaufer (Col ’03 CM)
Ilan Kaufer (Col ’03 CM) was elected to serve a three-year term on the Jupiter, Fla., town council. He was sworn in on March 19, 2013.

David Ogburn (Engr ’08 CM)
David Ogburn (Engr ’08 CM) and Allison Rutherford (Engr ’08 L/M) were married on April 21, 2012, at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church in Dallas. The wedding party included Mary Rachel Willey (Engr ’08) and Geoffrey Lewis (Col ’08 L/M). During the reception, the bride wore custom-made U.Va. boots.
Adam Pesapane (Col ’95 CM)
Adam Pesapane (Col ’95 CM) is a film director known professionally as PES. His animated short film, Fresh Guacamole, is nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at the 85th Oscars.

Amelia Wehunt (Engr ’07 CM)
Amelia Wehunt (Engr ’07 CM) was named treasurer of Commercial Real Estate Women Richmond. She works as a civil engineer at Timmons Group in Richmond, Va.
Evan Macbeth (Col ’97 CM)

Evan Macbeth (Col ’97 CM) traveled to the Virginia Capitol on Dec. 17, 2012, and cast the 10th Congressional District’s Electoral College vote (one of Virginia’s 13 electoral votes) for President Barack Obama. He also served as the Virginia Electoral College’s temporary presiding officer, using the gavel given him by the Washington Literary Society upon his graduation.
Darryl Updegrove (Engr ’88)
Darryl Updegrove (Engr ’88) earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Florida State University in the spring of 2012 and was recently promoted to a management position.
