“Birth” Class Notes
Elizabeth Witt (Col ’13 CM)
Elizabeth (Dickinson) Witt (Col ‘13 CM) and Ryan Witt (Col ‘13, Law ‘18 CM) welcomed their son, James Coleman, on November 4, 2021. James joins big sister Dabney Anne, and is the grandson of Harry D. Dickinson (Com ‘75, Grad ‘76 CM) and nephew of Will Dickinson (Col ‘16 CM). The family will move to Richmond, Virginia this spring. Ryan recently joined the law firm of Hirschler as an associate in the real estate group.
Laura Terry (Col ’06)
Jonathan D. Terry (Col ’06, Law ’11) and Laura Wells Terry (Col ’06) announce the birth of their fourth child, Thad Nikkel Terry, on January 8, 2022. Thad is welcomed by his three big sisters, Afton (age 14), Spring (age 13), and Kai (age 7). The Terrys live near Fort Meade, Maryland where Maj. Terry is serving in the US Air Force.
Jean Baker (Col ’12)
Jean Baker (Goodman) (Col ’12 CM) welcomed a daughter, Charlotte Bell Baker, on June 2, 2020, with husband Robert Baker. The family resides in Richmond, Va.
Bridget Mahoney (Col ’05)
Bridget Mahoney (Col ’05 CM) and her husband, J.P. Nogues, have welcomed their first child, Ollivier ‘Ollie’ Daniel Nogues, on October 8, 2021. The family resides in Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands where Ms. Mahoney is a psycho-therapist for the Department of Veteran Affairs and Mr. Nogues is a public defender.
Andrew Joyner (Col ’97 CM)
Andrew William Joyner (Col ’97 CM) and his wife, Elizabeth, welcomed a daughter, Sadie Carolyn Holland, on December 20, 2021. Sadie joins brothers, Thomas, 7, and William, 5. The children are the grandchildren of William H. Joyner Jr. (Engr ’68 CM) and the nephews and niece of John T.R. Terry (Grad ’10, ’14) and Caitlin Terry (Col ’12 CM). Andrew is the assistant director of development for the University of Virginia School of Education and Human Development Foundation while Elizabeth is the assistant director for scholarships and endowments at the University of Virginia Alumni Association. The family resides in Crozet.
Andrew Levine (Engr ’13)
Andrew Levine (Engr ’13 CM) and Mary Ortiz Levine (Col ’11 CM) welcomed a daughter, Abigail Mattea Levine, on May 3, 2021 in Falls Church, Virginia.
Kristen Watson (Col ’07 CM)
Kristen Peters Watson (Col ’07 CM) and Tripp Watson welcomed their son, Thomas Clyde Watson, on November 11, 2021. Thomas joins big brother Robert and is the grandson of Randy Alan Peters (Col ’78, Med ’82 CM). The family resides in Birmingham, Alabama.
Caroline Massie-DeJarnette (Col ’13 CM)
Caroline Massie-DeJarnette (Col ’13 CM) and Richard DeJarnette (Com ’13 CM) welcomed their first child, Hugh Irey DeJarnette, on August 29, 2021. Hugh is the grandson of William Elliott DeJarnette (Col ’73 CM) and Barbara Jeanne DeJarnette (Educ ’78, ’81 CM) The family lives in Richmond.
Aaron Peters (Engr ’01 CM)
Aaron Peters (Engr ’01 CM) and his wife, Stephanie, had their third child, Grace, in February this. She’s especially cute in all the hand-me-down UVA clothing from her brother and sister, Jude and Avery.
Patrick Melmer (Col ’12, Med ’17 CM)
Monica N. Melmer (Col ’11, Med ’17 CM) and Patrick D. Melmer (Col ’12, Med ’17 CM) welcomed their second child, Madison Grace, on Oct. 13, 2021. Madison joins big sister Kennedy Caroline and can already cheer “Wahoowa!” After completing residencies and starting their careers in South Carolina, the Melmers are also excited to announce they will be returning home to Virginia. The family will reside in Richmond where Patrick is an incoming trauma/critical care surgery fellow at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Rebecca Clemo (Engr ’13)
Dr. Rebecca Clemo (Eng ’13, Res ’21 CM) and Dr. Merrick Kozak (Col ’12, Res ’21 CM) welcomed their first son, Rhys Philip James Kozak on March 3, 2021. The family lives in Charlottesville where Rebecca is a hospitalist and Merrick is a dermatologist. Rhys is the grandson of Dr. Henry Clemo (Col ’81, Med ’86, Med ’87 CM) and Dr. Frances Lynne Clemo (Med ’85), and nephew of Annie Clemo (Col ’17 CM), Cy Clemo (Eng ’14 CM), Hannah Meredith (Eng ’12 CM), Kate Meredith (Educ ’15 CM), Sam Meredith (Engr ’15 CM), Richard Clemo (Col ’75), and George Clemo (Col ’77, Grad ’79 CM).
Susan Shapiro (Col ’10 CM)
Susan Shapiro (Col ’10 CM) and husband Zachary Shapiro (Engr ’09 CM) welcomed a son, Everett Morton, on July 21, 2021. His mom, dad, grandma Kim Ratliff (Col ’74), and aunt Anne Bowman (Col ’02 CM) are eager to share their love for UVA and Charlottesville with this sweet little guy.
Sarah Elizabeth Schmidt (Col ’09, Grad ’12)
R. Brennan Schmidt (Col ’05, Educ ’12) and Sarah Elizabeth Eskew Schmidt (Col ’09, Grad ’12) welcomed their third child, Everett Fitzwilliam Schmidt, on March 22, 2021 at their home in Charlottesville. Fitz’s arrival was joyfully celebrated by big sister Pippa (6) and Bennett (4).

Joan Noelker (Col ’04 CM) and husband Phil Moy welcomed their second child, a daughter, Maeve SunYan Moy, on July 26, 2021.
Katie Sears (Col ’05)
Katherine Sheehan Sears (Col ’05 CM), Robert Sears (Col ’05), and big brother, Henry, welcomed baby Benjamin Robert on May 25, 2021. Ben is the grandson of Mary Gardes Sears (Col ’82 CM), the great-grandson of Col. George Gardes (Engr ’60), and the nephew of Annie Sheehan (Col ’13). The family lives in Leesburg, Virginia.
Lara Young (Com ’10), Pat Young (Com ’11)
Lara Russo Young (Com ’10) and Pat Young (Com ’11) welcomed their first child, Clyde Bowen, on June 9, 2021 in Napa, California.
Molly Godfrey (Col ’10 CM)
Molly Phillips Godfrey (Col ’10 CM) and her husband, Matthew Godfrey (Arch ’10, ’12 CM), welcomed a daughter, Anna, on May 15, 2021. The family lives in Richmond, Virginia, where Molly works in digital marketing and Matt is an architect.
Caroline Languasco (Engr ’11 CM)
Caroline Higgins Languasco (Engr ’11) and Jon Languasco (Engr ’15) welcomed a future UVA engineer, Juliana Rose, on March 9, 2021.
Marc Olsen (Com ’01 CM)
Marc Olsen (Com ’01 CM) and his wife, Emily, are thrilled to announce the birth of their third child, Vivienne Gray, on Jan. 2, 2021. (Not a 2020 baby!) Marc is president of one of the largest COVID-19 testing networks in the Southeast and manages a multitude of testing and vaccine medical clinics in Georgia. His wife is an epidemiologist at the CDC, studying on COVID-19. The family happily resides in Atlanta.
Erika Chiang (Col ’04)
David Theisz (Engr ’04) and Erika Chiang (Col ’04 CM) welcomed their second child, Haley Shing-Yu, on May 1, 2021. Haley joins big brother Henry, and is the granddaughter of Gordon Frederick Theisz Jr. (Engr ’59, ’66) and the niece of Gordon W. Theisz (Med ’98). The family lives in Arlington, Virginia.
