John Rickman (Darden ’98, Engr ’92)

Jill Cummins (Col ’85)

Jill Reid Cummins (Col ’85) was appointed and sworn in as an associate judge on the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Maryland, on Jan. 12, 2018. She was appointed by Gov.Larry Hogan to a 15-year term. 

Eric Johnson (Col ’99 CM)

Johnson (Col ’99 L/M) was named executive director of Open Books in Chicago, Illinois. Open Books is a nonprofit education organization that provides literacy experiences for tens of thousands of readers each year through formative programs and the creative capitalization of books. Johnson lives with his wife and two daughters in Chicago.

Gerri Mattson (Col ’89)

Gerri Finkelstein Mattson (Col ’89) is the new president of the North Carolina Medical Society Foundation Board of Trustees. Dr. Mattson has worked for 13 years as the pediatric medical consultant with the North Carolina Title V program in the Women’s and Children’s Health Section at the N.C. Division of Public Health. A longtime society member, Dr. Mattson is a 2008-09 alumna of the foundation’s Leadership College, and has been part of the Leadership College faculty since her graduation. She currently serves as co-chair of the program.

Sarah Elizabeth Schmidt (Col ’09, Grad ’12) accepted the position of general manager at the Colonnade Club on UVA’s Grounds. She is thrilled to once again be in service to the University and back in the Academical Village where she met and later married her husband, R. Brennan Schmidt (Col ’06, Educ ’12). Sarah Elizabeth, Brennan, and their two children will relocate to Charlottesville at the end of the month.

Gary Wallace (Com ’85 CM)

Gary Wallace (Com ’85 L/M) has been named managing partner of the CPA firm, Keiter, effective Jan. 1, 2019. In this role, Wallace will oversee Keiter’s strategic direction and continue to serve as a partner in the firm’s tax practice. He has more than 30 years of accounting experience  and most recently led Keiter’s tax department.

Geoffrey Gordon (Col ’68 CM)

Job announcement on September 26, 2018

Geoffrey N. Gordon (Col ’68 L/M) has been named interim superintendent of schools in Riverdale, New Jersey. Gordon begins his 25th year as a superintendent of schools. During his time as superintendent of the New Providence district in Union County, the district soared to the top 10 of 309 districts in student achievement. In 1994, he became the first K-12 educator elected to the New Jersey Board of Governors of the National Conference for Community and Justice. Gordon was reelected and served for 8 years. Gordon also led the Port Washington district on Long Island for a decade and was selected as Long Island Educator of the Year. He was the first and only educator elected to the board of directors of the Long Island Red Cross for his philanthropic work during Hurricane Irene and Superstorm Sandy. Gordon received a unanimous citation for his public service from the New York State Senate in 2012.

Laura Doolan (Grad ’03)

Laura Doolan (Educ ’03) of Westminster, Maryland, has joined McDaniel College as the new coordinator of the master of liberal arts program. In addition to her role at McDaniel, she is coordinator of curriculum and instructional resources for secondary English language arts for Carroll County Public Schools. As a former English teacher and chair of the English department at Westminster High School, she was named the 2013 Carroll County Teacher of the Year.

Jack Copper (Engr ’72 L/M) launched NeuralStudio.ai®, which offers neural network-based artificial intelligence. Hollie Coleman (Engr ’19) played an important role preparing for the launch as an intern during the summer of 2018 at the company’s headquarters in the Cayman Islands. Copper first learned about neural networks in on of his engineering electives, titled “Problems in the Philosophy of Religion,” 50 years ago.

Chelsea Cullerot (Com ’10, Com ’11)

Chelsea Cullerot (Com ’10, ’11) was promoted manager in the audit practice of Baker Newman Noyes, an accounting and consulting firm. She joined the company in 2014 and specializes in internal control compliance, particularly detailed Sarbanes-Oxley testing.
