“Job” Class Notes

Hayden Lee (Col ’04 L/M) was named a partner at ShounBach, a Fairfax, Virginia, law firm dedicated to family law. Lee was admitted to the Virginia State Bar in 2007 and practices family law throughout northern Virginia and Washington, D.C.  

John Rickman (Engr ’92, Darden ’98) joined ReAlta Life Sciences, an early stage pharmaceutical company based in Norfolk, Virginia, as its chief financial officer. John and his wife, Mary Beth Sims Rickman (Col ’89), and their five children live in Norfolk.

Jill Reid Cummins (Col ’85) was appointed and sworn in as an associate judge on the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Maryland, on Jan. 12, 2018. She was appointed by Gov.Larry Hogan to a 15-year term. 

Eric B. Johnson (Col ’99 L/M) was named executive director of Open Books in Chicago, Illinois. Open Books is a nonprofit education organization that provides literacy experiences for tens of thousands of readers each year through formative programs and the creative capitalization of books. Johnson lives with his wife and two daughters in Chicago.

Timothy Kitt (Com ’88 L/M) was named senior vice president, head of pricing and execution in Freddie Mac’s single-family business. For the last four years, Kitt has led the pricing and analytics team in single-family portfolio management.
 

Michael H. Jones (Engr ’05) was named partner at Rothwell, Figg, Ernst and Manbeck, an intellectual property law firm in Washington, D.C. Jones’ practice covers all aspects of patent law and a wide range of technologies.

Sarah Elizabeth Schmidt (Col ’09, Grad ’12) accepted the position of general manager at the Colonnade Club on UVA’s Grounds. She is thrilled to once again be in service to the University and back in the Academical Village where she met and later married her husband, R. Brennan Schmidt (Col ’06, Educ ’12). Sarah Elizabeth, Brennan, and their two children will relocate to Charlottesville at the end of the month. 

Austen Givens (Col ’04) was named director of graduate cybersecurity programs at Utica College. He lives in Clinton, New York, with his wife, Rachel, and daughters, Serafina and Augusta.

Megan K. Dhillon (Col ’08) joined Carlton Fields’ growing healthcare practice in Washington, D.C. as an adviser to healthcare providers. Her career in healthcare law includes experience in both the private and public sectors. Prior to joining Carlton Fields, Dhillon was an associate at Hancock, Daniel, and Johnson in Richmond, Virginia.

Geoffrey N. Gordon (Col ’68 L/M) has been named interim superintendent of schools in Riverdale, New Jersey. Gordon begins his 25th year as a superintendent of schools. During his time as superintendent of the New Providence district in Union County, the district soared to the top 10 of 309 districts in student achievement. In 1994, he became the first K-12 educator elected to the New Jersey Board of Governors of the National Conference for Community and Justice. Gordon was reelected and served for 8 years. Gordon also led the Port Washington district on Long Island for a decade and was selected as Long Island Educator of the Year. He was the first and only educator elected to the board of directors of the Long Island Red Cross for his philanthropic work during Hurricane Irene and Superstorm Sandy. Gordon received a unanimous citation for his public service from the New York State Senate in 2012.

Tresa Chambers (Col ’89) is now communications director at the American Heart Association national office in Dallas. In this role, she identifies and supports strategic growth opportunities and business partnerships aligned with the organization’s mission.

William F. Crozer (Col ’07) was appointed as special assistant to the president and deputy director of intergovernmental affairs by President Donald Trump.

Scott Cyphers (Arch ’97 L/M) was promoted from principal to design principal. In this role, he will help the firm’s founder lead the design efforts and aesthetic quality of all projects in the firm. His expanded role will also include a focus on cultivating client relationships.

Jack Copper (Engr ’72 L/M) launched NeuralStudio.ai®, which offers neural network-based artificial intelligence. Hollie Coleman (Engr ’19) played an important role preparing for the launch as an intern during the summer of 2018 at the company’s headquarters in the Cayman Islands. Copper first learned about neural networks in on of his engineering electives, titled “Problems in the Philosophy of Religion,” 50 years ago.

Chelsea Cullerot (Com ’10, ’11) was promoted manager in the audit practice of Baker Newman Noyes, an accounting and consulting firm. She joined the company in 2014 and specializes in internal control compliance, particularly detailed Sarbanes-Oxley testing.
