James Johnson (Col ’93 CM)
James M. Johnson II (Col 93) was recently promoted to the rank of Major in the United States Army. He is an Iraq war veteran where he earned the Bronze Star Medal. James just completed a three year tour in Kaiserslauten Germany where he served as a company commander. He is currently assigned as an Army Forces Operation Officer at Fort McNair army base in Washington, DC. He spends his spare time riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle and running with his dog.

Susie Dantzig (Col ’04)
Susie Dantzig (Col ’04) has published Val the Violin: A Violin Instruction Book for Players in Pre-School & Up. Ms. Dantzig began teaching as an undergraduate as part of the Community Arts Volunteers and has now been teaching private violin lessons for more than 10 years.
Alexander Cole (Col ’04)
Alexander Cole (Col ’04) and Kate Emmet Jerde (Col ’05) were married Oct. 5, 2013, in Keswick, Va. The couple currently resides in Brooklyn, N.Y., where Mr. Cole works for Spotify and Ms. Jerde works in marketing in the design industry.
Sarah Farrell (Nurs ’81, Nurs ’83 CM)
Sarah Farrell (Nurs ’81, Nurs ’83 CM) recently accepted the position of development executive in higher education with Apple. She raised her four now grown children in Richmond, Va., and currently travels between offices in Cupertino, Calif.; Austin, Texas; Chicago and New York City.
Ausin Ramirez (Engr ’01 CM)
Ausin Ramirez (Engr ’01 CM) has been named one of the United Way of Greater Milwaukee 2013 Philanthropic 5 award winners for his support for Schools That Can Milwaukee, a nonprofit organization founded to close the achievement gap between Milwaukee students and their suburban peers. Mr. Ramirez is chief executive officer of HUSCO International, a company that develops and manufactures hydraulic and electrohydraulic controls for off-highway applications.
Justin Humphreys (Col ’01)
Justin Humphreys (Col ’01) recorded the audio commentary for the Blu-ray disc release of the 1971 horror film The Abominable Dr. Phibes. It was released in October 2013 as part of The Vincent Price Collection, a Blu-ray box set from Scream Factory Video.
Robert Proutt (Col ’99)
Robert Proutt (Col ’99) has joined the law firm of Christian & Barton in Richmond, Va., as a partner, where he will continue his legal practice focused on commercial real estate transactions, natural resource restoration and mitigation banking.
Daniel Milstein (Col ’99)
Daniel Milstein (Col ’99) and Farrell Christine Newman (Col ’11 L/M) were married on Sept. 1, 2013, in Alexandria, Va.
Heather Smith (Col ’98)
Heather Smith (Col ’98) has been elected to the board of directors of the American Medical Association. She completed a postdoctorate fellowship in health services through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program at Yale University. There, she researched health equity, with a focus on disparities for women and adolescents, particularly those from marginalized and underserved populations. She investigated the impact of local and federal policies on issues including access to care, information and resource utilization. Dr. Smith is now an assistant professor in the department of obstetrics and gynecology and women’s health at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University in the Bronx, New York.
Stacia Ryan (Engr ’98 CM)
Stacia Ryan (Engr ’98 CM) and Michael Ryan were married on Aug. 23, 2013. The couple resides in Chicago, where Ms. Ryan is a managing director at Morgan Stanley and Mr. Ryan is an attorney at Ryan & Ryan Law, an eminent domain law firm.
Mandy Yokim (Col ’97 CM)
Mandy Yokim (Col ’97 CM) has established and recently launched Wonderaddo, a global education resource focused on helping families in the Pittsburgh area experience the world and celebrate the city’s diverse cultures. Ms. Yokim, a writer, lives in Pittsburgh with her family.
Webster Santos (Col ’97, Grad ’02)
Webster Santos (Col ’97, Grad ’02) is an associate professor of chemistry at Virginia Tech. An organic chemist, he has been working on a compound that might be used in a drug to fight fibrosis. Mr. Santos and his research partner, Kevin Lynch, professor and vice chair of pharmacology at U.Va., were awarded a $1.15 million three-year grant from the National Institutes of Health to continue their research on what would be the first drug to treat fibrosis pathology.
Kelly Harris (Col ’02 CM)
Kelly Harris (Col ’02 CM) received a master of business administration degree with a focus in marketing and international business from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland in December 2012. She is currently a senior business development specialist in the Washington, D.C., office of Venable. Ms. Harris resides in Arlington, Va., with her husband, Adam L. Hudes, a partner at Mayer Brown.
Mitch Frank (Col ’96 CM)
Mitch Frank (Col ’96 CM) and Catherine Shnaider Frank (Col ’99 L/M) welcomed their second child, William Marshall, on April 18, 2013. William, who joins big brother Spencer, is the grandson of Irving Shnaider (Col ’68 L/M) and the nephew of Adam Shnaider (Com ’95 L/M). The family resides in New Orleans, where Mr. Frank is an associate editor at Wine Spectator magazine and Ms. Frank is the owner of Catherine Frank Editorial Services.
David Kurtz (Col ’95 CM)
David Kurtz (Col ’95 CM) has been selected for inclusion in the 2013 edition of Massachusetts Super Lawyers as a rising star in employment and labor and business litigation law. He is an attorney in the Boston office of Constangy Brooks & Smith.
Jason George (Col ’94 CM)
Jason George (Col ’94 CM) played the role of Juror Eight in a fall 2013 production of Twelve Angry Men, directed by Sheldon Epps, at The Pasadena Playhouse in Pasadena, Calif.
Nicole Price (Col ’93 CM)
Nicole Price (Col ’93 CM) has been appointed chief diversity and inclusion officer for Suffolk University in Boston. An attorney with a demonstrated record of leadership in diversity, cultural understanding and multicultural affairs, Ms. Price was previously director of diversity, inclusion and affinity relations for Suffolk University Law School and served as interim dean of law admissions. Prior to joining Suffolk University Law School, she served as associate director for academic and multicultural affairs at Boston University School of Law.
Pamela Smith (Com ’92 CM)
Pamela Smith (Com ’92 CM) received the College of Business Dean’s Distinguished Fellow Award from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She is a professor in the department of accounting at the College of Business and is very active as a faculty mentor for The PhD Project, a national organization that recruits minority professionals from business into doctoral programs in all business disciplines.
James Wall (Law ’89 CM)
James Wall (Law ’89 CM) has been selected for inclusion in the 2014 edition of The Best Lawyers in America. He is a founding member of Wall Esleeck Babcock, where he is an attorney in the firm’s corporate law and health care groups.
