Heather Evans (Col ’93, Grad ’04, Res ’07 CM)
Heather Evans (Col ’93, Grad ’04, Res ’07 CM) became one of the first 8,000 Google Glass Explorers after winning Google’s #ifihadglass contest in March 2013. A trauma surgeon at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Dr. Evans is using Glass to explore how wearable computing might be used to enhance surgical training. Use of technology to improve surgical care is a theme in Dr. Evans’ research, and she leads a multidisciplinary team in developing mPOWEr, a mobile app for patients to use following surgery to track the condition of their own surgical wounds and facilitate communication after they leave the hospital.
Richard Martin (Nurs ’89 CM)
Richard Martin (Nurs ’89 CM) received a doctorate in organizational leadership from Pepperdine University in July 2013 and currently serves as the senior vice president and chief nursing officer for a major medical center in southern California. Mr. Martin resides in Orange County, Calif.
Jaime Wisegarver (Col ’05 CM)
Jaime Wisegarver (Col ’05 CM) and Jordi Lamas were married Oct. 12, 2013, at the Virginia Center for Architecture in Richmond, Va. The couple resides in Richmond.

Jennifer Walkowski (Arch ’08)
Jennifer Walkowski (Arch ’08) and Frederick Schrock were married Sept. 14, 2013, at the Tonawanda Castle outside of Buffalo, N.Y. The couple currently resides in the Albany, N.Y., area, where Ms. Walkowski is a historic preservation specialist with the New York State Historic Preservation Office and Mr. Schrock works at the New York State Office of General Services.
Kevin Myhre (Engr ’08)

Kevin Myhre (Engr ’08) and Katherine Spengel Myhre (Arch ’08) welcomed their first child, a daughter, Charlotte Louise, on Sept. 23, 2013. Charlotte is the granddaughter of Sandra Janson Spengel (Com ’76). The family resides in West Chester, Pa.
David Ensor (Col ’84)
David Ensor (Col ’84) and his wife, Karen, recently opened Gypsy Sally’s, a 300-person-capacity live music venue in Georgetown, Washington, D.C., which hosts national, regional and local Americana acts. The venue houses a full restaurant that features dishes made with local, farm-fresh ingredients.

Susan Lichtman (Com ’99 CM)
Susan Lichtman (Com ’99 CM) and her husband, Keith, welcomed a daughter, Hensley Joan-Marie, on Sept. 28, 2013. The family resides in Atlanta, where Ms. Lichtman is the general manager of the local office of Axiom Law.

Matthew Gillwald (Engr ’11 CM)
Madeleine Gawne (Nurs ’10) and Matthew Gillwald (Engr ’11 L/M) were married on September 14, 2013 in Alexandria, Va. The couple met through the Cavalier Marching Band. The couple currently reside in Alexandria.

Leah Friedman (Col ’99 CM)
Leah Friedman (Col ’99 L/M) founded Raleigh Green Gables, LLC, a professional organizing business, where she helps clients clear space in their homes and corporate offices so they can live life without clutter. (www.raleighgreengables.com.) Leah serves clients throughout the Triangle in North Carolina. Leah lives in Raleigh with her husband, Stephen Feldman, and their two children, Tova, 6, and Jordan, 4, both of whom know every word in “The Good Ole Song.”

Jerry Tuttle (Engr ’74 CM)
Jerry Tuttle (Grad Engr ’74 L/M) spoke on “Copyright and Math Teaching” at a conference of NJ math teachers. He traces his interest in copyright to a UVA civil engineering class with Professor Demetsky. Jerry is an actuary with Platinum Underwriters Reinsurance in New York City.

Caroline McKinnon (Nurs ’02)
Caroline McKinnon (Nurs ’02) received a Ph.D. in nursing from The Graduate School at Georgia Regents University in Augusta, Ga., in December 2013. She focuses her research on parental involvement in child mental health services. Ms. McKinnon is also a faculty member of the GRU College of Nursing, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate psychiatric and mental health nursing courses.
Steve Lustig (Engr ’83 CM)
Steve Lustig (Engr ’83 CM) received the 2013 Industrial Research and Development Award from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Mr. Lustig earned a doctorate in chemical engineering from Purdue University in 1989 and joined DuPont in central research in 1990. He is also an adjunct professor in the department of chemical and biomolecular engineering at the University of Delaware.
John Kraljevich (Col ’99 CM)
I got married on November 30, 2013 in Awendaw, South Carolina to Megan (Brogan) Kraljevich. Megan is an emergency room RN, I’m the proprietor of John Kraljevich Americana, a rare coin and medal firm. We live in Fort Mill, SC with my stepsons Andrew (he’s 12) and Riley (7).
Nick Stewart (Col ’12)
Nick Stewart (Col ’12) and Alexandra Shamburek (Col’ 13) became engaged to be married on December 5, 2013 at UVA’s 13th Annual Lighting of the Lawn.
Joseph Maiolo (Grad ’68)

Joseph Maiolo has a new book of stories coming out on December 19, 2013, entitled “An Arch of Birches and Other Stories.” Please visit www.overcoatbooks.com for more information. “An Arch of Birches and Other Stories” completes the four-volume set of Joseph Maiolo’s short fiction that includes the previously published books Boy • Youth • Man: A Tryptich of Novellas, Three Frays from Mallorca and Four Stories, and Saint Matthew in Appalachia and Other Stories. Several of the tales in this collection are set in Northern Minnesota, where Maiolo has taught fiction writing and literature since 1976.
Fran Wilde (Col ’94)
Fran Wilde (Col ’94) has sold three fantasy novels to Tor/Macmillan, the first of which will debut in 2015. She lives in Philadelphia with her husband, Tom Wilde (Col ’94); and their daughter.
Brittany Averette (Col ’04)
Brittany Averette (Col ’04) and Ben Treanor (Col ’04) welcomed their first child, a son, Henry Robison Treanor, on July 31, 2013. Henry is the grandson of Craig P. Treanor (Engr ’78 L/M).

John Whitfield (Col ’77, Law ’81)
John Whitfield has been appointed co-chair of the newly created Virginia Access to Justice Commission by Supreme Court Chief Justice Cynthia Kinser. Supreme Court Justice S. Bernard Goodwyn will serve as the other co-chair of the 18-member commission, comprised of judges, lawyers, and other stakeholders. The mission of the Commission, created by order of the Supreme Court of Virginia in September 2013, is to promote equal access to justice in Virginia, with particular emphasis on the civil legal needs of Virginia residents. In establishing the Commission, Virginia joins 28 other states with Access to Justice Commissions charged with expanding access to civil justice for low income and disadvantaged persons. Whitfield is the executive director of Blue Ridge Legal Services, the non-profit legal aid society that provides free civil legal assistance to low-income residents of the Shenandoah and Roanoke Valleys of Virginia.
Tracey Schaefer (Col ’94 CM)
Tracey Zemitis Schaefer (Col ’94) and her husband, John, welcomed their second child, Wyatt John, on October 30, 2013. Wyatt joins a brother, Luke, 2. Wyatt and Luke are the nephews of Darrell Zemitis (Col ’90) and W. Scott Zemitis (Engr ’94).
