John Hackney (Com ’03, Com ’04 CM)
John W. Hackney (Com ’03, ’04 L/M) was elevated to equity status at law firm Chamberlain Hrdlicka. Hackney represents clients in disputes with the Internal Revenue Service and other taxing authorities. He counsels clients on tax issues, including gift tax valuation issues, captive insurance, accounting method issues, and hobby losses.
Meghan Brodie (Col ’07 CM)


Meghan Stahling Brodie (Col ’07 L/M) started The House Finch, a Richmond-based home organizing business. Her business focuses on helping young families get organized and implement systems to make their daily lives more efficient. She also helps clients purge, downsize and unpack into new spaces. Meghan lives in Richmond with her husband Kyle Brodie (Darden ’17) and their daughter.

Aimee Freeman (Col ’91 CM)
Aimee Adatto Freeman (Col ’91 L/M), daughter of Ken Adatto (Col ’65) and mother of first-year Scott Freeman (Col ’23), was sworn into the Louisiana House of Representatives in January 2020. As a Democrat joining a Republican-controlled legislature, she won the 98th District’s open seat, besting a seven-person field, with 32 percent of the vote and with the help of high school friend and fellow Wahoo Anne Flower Redd (Col ’90).
Gunes Hopson (Col ’97, Law ’01 CM)
Gunes Hopson (Col ’97, Law ’01 L/M), an avid traveler and uber-planner, is now an independent travel advisor affiliated with MEI-Travel. She provides complimentary concierge-style travel planning services. Gunes continues to enjoy writing for her travel blog, fotogenictravel.com, and offers photography services through fotogenicrichmond.com. Additionally, she still practices law full-time as associate general counsel at Automattic Inc.

Anna Steele (Col ’08 CM)
Anna V. Steele (Col ’08 L/M) joined Fox Rothschild in New York as an associate in the corporate department. She represents clients in a range of corporate matters, including mergers and acquisitions, investment funds, financing and restructuring.
Henry Ware (Col ’77 CM)
Henry N. Ware Jr. (Col ’77 L/M) was inducted as a fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation in January 2020. The VLF has provided over $26 million in grants to support projects throughout the commonwealth that facilitate access to justice, promote an appreciation and understanding of the rule of law, and provide law-related education in support of these ideals. Ware serves on the foundation’s board of directors and is chair of its committee on continuing legal education. He is a member of the Boyd-Graves Conference and his practice, Spotts Fain, in Richmond, Virginia, focuses on products liability/toxic tort defense and insurance coverage litigation. Ware and his wife, Marilynn, live in Manakin Sabot and their three sons, Henry, Shep (Col ’12, Engr ’15) and Robert live and work in Richmond.

Mark Brewer (Engr ’07)
Mark Brewer (Engr ’07) was promoted to senior associate at Dewberry, a professional services firm. Brewer is a transportation engineer with experience in highway and public road design. He specializes in geometric design, drainage design, general road plan preparation and maintenance of traffic design.
Christy McMannen (Col ’02 CM)
Christy McMannen (Col ’02 L/M) recently became the first African American equity partner at Christovich and Kearney, a regional law firm in New Orleans. McMannen is a civil litigator whose areas of practice include premises liability, insurance defense, toxic torts and title insurance litigation. She previously served as in-house counsel at an oil and gas land services firm. She has lived in New Orleans since graduating from UVA, and she is married to Jim Dennard, with whom she has three children.

Gizem Petrosino (Col ’09)
Gizem Basbug Petrosino (Col ’09) joined the Houston office of national law firm Chamberlain Hrdlicka as an associate in the litigation practice. Her practice will focus primarily on general civil defense, labor and employment litigation, and intellectual property.

Zaki Robbins (Col ’06 CM)
Zaki Robbins (Col ’06 L/M) has been named a partner of the Denver law firm Moye White. Robbins focuses his practice on a broad range of corporate and finance matters with a particular emphasis on serving the advanced energy industry.

Mark Friedman (Col ’86 CM)
Mark Friedman (Col ’86 L/M) was named vice president of services and operations of Assured Allies, a venture-backed aging services firm focused on managing longevity risk for long term care insurance carriers. He also is the owner of Senior Helpers Boston and South Shore, an eldercare agency serving metropolitan Boston and the South Shore. Mark is married to Carolyn and has two kids, Lee, 23, and Dora, 18, who will be a first year this fall.

Scott Dunn (Col ’92 CM)
Scott Dunn (Col ’92 L/M) is the newest shareholder of Timmons Group, where he is the group leader for the traffic analysis practice. He provides expertise in multiple areas of transportation planning and traffic engineering, including corridor studies, traffic impact analyses and pedestrian safety improvements.
Scott Surovell (Law ’96)
Scott Surovell (Law ’96) was elected vice chairman of the Virginia Senate Democratic Caucus. He continues to practice civil, criminal and commercial litigation in Northern Virginia.
Jasmine Hall Ratliff (Col ’99 CM)

Jasmine Hall Ratliff (Col ’99 L/M) has joined the leadership team of Keecha Harris and Associates, Inc. as deputy director for culture and strategy. The role includes staff management along with business and strategy development. The woman-owned national consulting firm, based in Birmingham, Alabama, leads organizational development, project management, and evaluation projects for both nonprofit and for-profit organizations.
John Markowitz (Col ’05)

John Markowitz (Col ’05) accepted a job as assistant treasurer, North America for Transurban in the Washington, D.C., metro area. He and his family will be moving from Boston, where John was acting treasurer at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.

Andrew Brownstein (Col ’89, Law ’94 CM)
Andrew S. Brownstein (Col ’89, Law ’94 L/M) joined the Virginia-based law firm of GreeneHurlocker as partner. Brownstein previously founded Global Realty Services Group, where he served as general counsel for for a decade, while also serving as its Chief Financial Officer (2009-2016) and President of its affiliated title company (2013-2017). Brownstein previously was senior vice president of international services for LandAmerica Financial Group after serving as SVP-Corporate Development.
Richard Rogers (Col ’95 CM)
Richard B. Rogers (Col ’95 L/M) has accepted an appointment as the career law clerk to Judge M. Miller Baker of the U.S. Court of International Trade. Rogers and his wife, Agnes, live in Fairfax County, Virginia.

Peter Reddy (Engr ’84 CM)
Peter C. Reddy (Engr ’84 L/M) was selected as Atlantic executive director of the Naval Information Warfare Center by the Naval Information Warfare Systems Command. In this position, Reddy sets the center’s Atlantic-wide strategic goals and manages engineering and business operations for more than 4,900 federal civilian and military employees. Reddy has served as NIWC Atlantic acting executive director since July 2019 and as deputy executive director since January 2019. The former Marine Corps colonel retired after 30 years of active service in a variety of command, control, computers, communications and intelligence assignments around the world.
Michael Fordham (Law ’88)

Michael Fordham (Law ’88) was appointed as a high court judge in the United Kingdom.

Donald Schultz (Col ’86 CM)
Donald C. Schultz (Col ’86 L/M) was appointed managing partner of Crenshaw, Ware & Martin. He serves as the practice group chair for the firm’s Commercial Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights Group and also practices in areas including civil litigation and commercial real estate.
