Mark Bardini (Educ ’97)
Mark Bardini (Educ ’97) has been appointed executive vice president for the Dexis Consulting Group in Washington, D.C. Dexis is a government and international development consulting company serving clients such as USAID, the World Bank and the U.K. government.
Meghan Welford (Arch ’10)

Meghan Welford (Arch ’10) and Kyle Horton (Arch ’10) were married at University Chapel on Nov. 17, 2012. The couple resides in North Carolina, where Ms. Horton works as a Web developer at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Mr. Horton is a first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, currently deployed to Afghanistan.
Thomas Barden (Col ’68, Grad ’72, Grad ’75 CM)
Thomas Barden (Col ’68, Grad ’72, Grad ’75 CM) was named the 2012-2014 Phi Kappa Phi Scholar by the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi for his achievements in research, teaching, service and leadership. Mr. Barden is the dean of the Honors College at the University of Toledo and serves as general editor of the University of Toledo Press. His research focuses on folklore, the oral tradition and John Steinbeck studies. He has written six books, including Virginia Folk Legends, published in 1991, and numerous articles.
Donald Slesnick (Col ’65 CM)
Donald Slesnick (Col ’65 CM) was appointed to the board of directors of the LeRoy Collins Institute at Florida State University. The institute is a nonprofit organization affiliated with the State University System of Florida that performs research studies about key government issues and policies in Florida. Mr. Slesnick is a former mayor of the city of Coral Gables, Fla.
Candice Cook (Col ’00 CM)

On August 3, 2012, Harry Simmons, III (B.S., 1998) and Candice S. Cook (BA, 2000) were engaged. The couple, who reside in New York where Harry is the Global Sales Manager for IBM and Candice is the Managing Member of Ca-Co GLobal Inc. and The Cook Law Group, PLLC in Manhattan, began their courtship when Candice returned to New York from an entrepreneurship program at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business. They will marry at the Oheka Castle on the Gold Coast of Long Island in 2013.
Stefanie Vuori (Col ’03 CM)
Stefanie Vuori (Col ’03 CM) and Richard Massony (Law ’12) were married on Oct. 20, 2012, in Scottsville, Va. Ms. Vuori works for the Carlyle Group and Mr. Massony is an attorney with Crowell & Moring. The couple resides in Arlington, Va.
Andrew Turner (Engr ’00)
Andrew Turner (Engr ’00) and Corrie Clark (Engr ’02) welcomed their first child, a son, Sayge Clark Turner, on July 13, 2012. Sayge is the grandson of Nathan Turner (Engr ’62) and the nephew of Natalie Turner (Col ’09, Grad ’10, Law ’13 L/M). The family resides in Washington, D.C.
Ken Jones (Grad ’87 CM)
Ken Jones (Grad ’87 CM) and Christine Long Jones (Grad ’87 L/M) are executive producers of the television series Divine Will. They created the series, which is scheduled to have its network premiere in early 2013. Suzanne Fitzpatrick (Grad ’92) is the supervising producer and a writer for the show.
Bart Shoaf (Col ’86)
Bart Shoaf (Col ’86) welcomed his first grandchild, Emily Jean Scott, on Sept. 11, 2012.
James Carlson (Engr ’03 CM)
James Carlson (Engr ’03 CM) and his wife, Laura, welcomed their first son, Wallace Motte, on Sept. 14, 2012. The family resides in Charleston, S.C.

Mark Scharf (Col ’84 CM) has written a play, Hired Gun, that has been nominated for six awards by BroadwayWorld.com, including Best New Play or Musical and Best Direction of a Play or Musical.
Stuart Pape (Col ’70, Law ’73 CM)
Stuart Pape (Col ’70, Law ’73 CM) received the 2012 Judge Learned Hand Award from the Washington regional office of the American Jewish Committee. Mr. Pape practices food and drug law at Patton Boggs in Washington, D.C., where he was the managing partner from 1996 to 2010.

Michele Mulloy (Col ’03) and Daniel Mulloy (Med ’07) welcomed their first child, Robert Patrick, on Oct. 5, 2012. The family resides in Seattle.
Lesley Field (Com ’90 CM)
Lesley Field (Com ’90 CM) was elected a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration on Nov. 15, 2012. The academy is a nonpartisan organization chartered by Congress whose members advise leaders on public policy issues. Ms. Field is the deputy administrator for federal procurement policy in the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, Executive Office of the President, and served as the acting administrator from 2008-09 and in 2012.
Crissy Hemphill (Col ’95 CM)
Crissy Hemphill (Col ’95 CM) and her husband, Jay, welcomed their third child, Crawford Harrison, on Jan. 30, 2012. Crawford joins two brothers, Hays, 6, and Archer, 3. The family resides in Raleigh, N.C.

Rob Krupicka (Col ’93 CM)
Rob Krupicka (Col ’93 CM) won a special election on Sept. 4, 2012, to serve in the Virginia House of Delegates representing Alexandria, Arlington and Fairfax. He has served for nine years on the Alexandria City Council and for almost four years on the Virginia Board of Education.

Michael Cairo (Grad ’94, Grad ’99)
Michael Cairo (Grad ’94, Grad ’99) published a book, The Gulf: The Bush Presidencies and the Middle East, with the University Press of Kentucky in Nov. 2012. Mr. Cairo is currently an associate professor of political science at Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky.
Colleen Allen (Col ’02 CM)
Colleen Allen (Col ’02 CM) and Colin Allen (Col ’03 L/M) welcomed their first child, Margaret Campbell, on Oct. 3, 2012. Margaret is the granddaughter of Conway Allen (Com ’74 L/M) and the niece of Sherrie Colby (Col ’06, Educ ’06 L/M). The Allens reside in Arlington, Va.

Carmen Field (Col ’93) and her husband, Brent, welcomed their second daughter in July 2009. In June 2010, Ms. Field was admitted to the partnership at Deloitte Financial Advisory Services in New York City.
David Lee (Col ’97 CM)
David Lee (Col ’97 CM) and Jennifer Palmer (Col ’97 L/M) welcomed a son, Henry Xin Qi Palmer-Lee, on Sept. 21, 2012. The family lives in Athens, Ga.
Kristian Fonss (Arch ’95 CM)
Kristian Fonss (Arch ’95 CM) and his wife, Kari, welcomed their second child, Kian Richard, on April 20, 2012. He joins a big brother, Karsten Ulrik, 3. The family resides in New York City.
Robert Buerlein (Com ’68 CM)
Robert Buerlein (Com ’68 CM) will serve another term on the board of the U.S. Marine Raider Foundation, a national nonprofit that preserves and perpetuates the history of America’s first military elite force unit, established February 1942. He is a co-founder of the U.S. Marine Raider Museum, located at Raider Hall at Quantico Marine Corps Base, and serves on the Historic Preservation Committee that advises the museum. Mr. Buerlein has also been elected to serve another term on the executive committee of the board of trustees of the Edgar Allan Poe Museum in Richmond, Va.
Eric Patlovich (Com ’03)
Eric Patlovich (Com ’03) married Stacy Sweet on Sept. 22, 2012, in Lake Forest, Ill. The couple resides in Washington, D.C., where Mr. Patlovich is a principal and portfolio manager at New Century Advisors, and Ms. Patlovich is a loan officer at CapitalSource.

Lissa Power-deFur (Col ’75, Educ ’76, Grad ’82)
Lissa Power-deFur (Col ’75, Educ ’76, Grad ’82) is a professor of communication sciences and disorders at Longwood University. At Longwood’s fall 2012 convocation, she was awarded the Maria Bristow Starke Award for Faculty Excellence for her achievements in teaching, scholarship and service.
Buddy Omohundro (Col ’92 CM)

Buddy Omohundro (Col ’92 CM) was a finalist in the category of Outstanding Chief Legal Officer for the Washington Metropolitan Association of Corporate Counsel Association’s 2012 Corporate Counsel Awards. Mr. Omohundro is the senior vice president and general counsel at Apex Systems, where he heads the legal department that was named a 2012 finalist in the category of Outstanding Small Law Department.
Steven Lowe (Col ’72)
Steven Lowe (Col ’72) published an article about Col. Robert G. Ingersoll in issue 31 of White House History, “The White House Neighborhood Revisited.” Col. Ingersoll was an enormously popular and successful orator, lawyer and political campaigner in the late 19th century. His agnosticism and unabashed criticism of religion precluded a political career, but his liberal progressive position on many issues helped move the country forward.
Christinia Gainey (Col ’12, Educ ’12)
Christina Gainey (Col ’12, Educ ’12) is a third-grade teacher at Farmington Woods International Baccalaureate/PYP Magnet Elementary School in Cary, N.C. Ms. Gainey resides in Raleigh, N.C.
Melissa Keywood (Arch ’12)
Melissa Keywood (Arch ’12) has received a 2012 Walter B. Jones Award for Excellence in Coastal and Ocean Management. The award, sponsored by the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, honors individuals and organizations that have dedicated time and energy to conserving coastal resources and improving coastal communities throughout America. As part of her graduate work, Ms. Keywood served as project manager for two projects carried out by the University’s Institute for Environmental Negotiation, funded by Virginia Sea Grant. She held listening sessions and focus groups in Virginia Beach and on Virginia’s middle peninsula and Eastern Shore to assess public understanding, attitudes and recommendations for shoreline protection in the face of sea level rise.
Victoria O’Dea (Col ’11 CM)
Victoria O’Dea (Col ’11 L/M) is pursuing a Master of Arts degree in English literature at University College London in London, England. She is enrolled in the Issues in Modern Culture program that examines literature and culture from the end of the 19th century to the present day. Ms. O’Dea plans to move back to the U.S. this fall.
James Hill (Col ’11 CM)
James Jackson Hill IV (Col ’11 L/M) lives in Chinandega, Nicaragua and works for Amigos for Christ. The organization partners with community members to provide rural villages in the Chinandega area with clean water, education and health care through a sustainable development model. Mr. Hill oversees the short-term mission teams hosted throughout the year.

Marguerite McNeal (Col ’11 L/M) is a graduate student at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, where she is studying interactive publishing.
Abby Trenor (Col ’10 CM)
Abby K. Trenor (Col ’10 L/M) received her Master of Science degree in graphic communications from Clemson University in May 2012. She is currently a BullsVision producer in the athletic department at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Fla.
Paul Wiley (Col ’10 CM)
Paul M. Wiley (Col ’10 L/M) is a student at Washington and Lee University School of Law in Lexington, Va. Prior to starting law school in fall 2012, Mr. Wiley worked for two years in Washington, D.C.
Andrew Sutton (Com ’10 CM)
Andrew P. “Drew” Sutton (Com ’10 L/M) is a first year associate at Summit Park, a private investment firm in Charlotte, N.C. Previously, he worked for two years as an investment banking analyst with Jefferies & Co.

Joanna Stokes (Col ’10)
Joanna Alison Holmes Stokes (Col ’10) married Joseph David Berger (Engr ’10) on March 12, 2011. Ms. Berger works as an exotics veterinary technician at Pender Veterinary Centre in Fairfax, Va., and Mr. Berger works as a software engineer for the U.S. Marine Corps in Quantico, Va. The couple resides in Manassas, Va.
Tyler Duke (Col ’10 CM)
Tyler Duke (Col ’10 L/M) is a Department of the Army civilian employee serving with the 82nd Airborne Division at Kandahar Airfield in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan. He helps design and support the deputy commanding general’s engagement strategy with key Afghan leaders. Mr. Duke’s day-to-day work involves a significant amount of time off-post with the general, supporting engagements throughout the provinces of Daykundi, Zabul, Kandahar and Uruzgan.
Cabrillya Crumm (Col ’10 CM)
Cabrillya Crumm (Col ’10 L/M) completed a Master of Education degree in secondary education at Old Dominion University in May 2012. She teaches English at Granby High School in Norfolk, Va. Ms. Crumm also interns with WHRO Education, a local PBS affiliate, where she aids in the redesign of online English courses.
Emily Seabury (Col ’09 CM)
Emily Bareford Seabury (Col ’09 L/M) is a senior legal consultant with FTI Consulting in Washington, D.C. The firm manages e-discovery cases and provides strategic consulting and review platforms to assist with discovery requests in preparation for depositions and trial.
Bilal Noor (Com ’09)
Bilal Noor (Com ’09) works as an associate for HIG Capital in Miami. His work focuses on middle market leveraged buyouts. He works on projects in a diverse range of industries and recently completed a leveraged buyout of Arctic Glacier, a leading national manufacturer and distributor of packaged ice. Before starting at HIG Capital, Mr. Noor worked as an investment banker for Merrill Lynch in New York.

Nicole Ponticorvo (Col ’09 CM)
Nicole Ponticorvo (Col ’09 L/M) is a graduate student at Rutgers University, where she is studying for a master’s degree in college student affairs. Ms. Ponticorvo works as a Rutgers residence life hall director.
Jon Campbell (Col ’09 CM)
Jon Campbell (Col ’09 L/M) is pursuing a Juris Doctor degree at the University of South Carolina School of Law. From December 2009 through July 2012, he worked as a consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton, a strategy and technology consulting firm that serves the U.S. government. With BAH, Mr. Campbell participated in projects with the Army and the FBI.
Mona Olsen (Com ’08)

Mona Anita K. Olsen (Com ’08) has been awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student grant to study in Norway for 2012-13. She will be exploring the plausibility of using appren-ticeship models to inform innovation in traditional entrepreneurship courses at the university level. Ms. Olsen is the founder of I Make a Difference, Do You?, an educational nonprofit that provides mentoring and apprenticeship opportunities to aspiring student entrepreneurs. She is also the assistant director of the Mason Small Business Development Center, a program of the Mason Enterprise Center at George Mason University. Ms. Olsen is a PhD candidate in the College of Education and Human Development at George Mason University, specializing in entrepreneurship education.
Kate Brennan (Grad ’08)

Kate Brennan (Grad ’08) is the artistic director of BCKSEET Productions, a Philadelphia theatre company. She has recommitted the company to offering more opportunities to women in the arts. BCKSEET produced Ms. Brennan’s MFA thesis musical, Some Assembly Required, in 2010. Ms. Brennan co-wrote BCKSEET’s third original musical, ELFuego: A New Holiday Musical, set for a Dec. 12, 2012, opening.
Chevy Beh (Col ’07)
Yen San “Chevy” Beh (Col ’07) received the Most Promising Entrepreneurship Award from Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards 2012 Malaysia. Mr. Beh is the director of investment and finance at BP Diagnostic Centre at BP Healthcare Group in Ipoh, Malaysia.
Daniel Young (Col ’07 CM)

Daniel Taylor Young (Col ’07 L/M) and Carolina Ferrerosa Dueñas (Col ’09 L/M) were married on August 4, 2012, at the University of Virginia Chapel. Ms. Ferrerosa-Young will begin a PhD program in political science at Columbia University as a dean’s fellow and a National Science Foundation graduate research fellow this fall. Mr. Young graduated in May 2012 with a joint JD/MPP degree from Yale Law School and Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government as a Jack Kent Cooke Scholar and Harvard Zuckerman Fellow. He will begin working at Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York in September.
Katherine Jungers (Col ’06)
Katherine Wise Jungers (Col ’06 L/M) received a Master of Science degree in integrated marketing communications from the Medill School at Northwestern University on June 15, 2012. She earned her degree while working, attending evening classes with fellow marketing industry professionals. As part of her studies, she spent three weeks in Asia discussing global and local marketing strategies with executives at worldwide brands like Nike, Coca-Cola and Samsung. Ms. Jungers lives in the Chicago suburbs with her husband, Michael, and travels frequently for her job in the sponsorship and event marketing division of Intersport, an event marketing agency specializing in sports, entertainment and lifestyle brand activations.
Michael Ihrig (Col ’06 CM)
Michael Ihrig II (Col ’06 L/M) and Brittany Collier (Com ’08 L/M) were married on June 23, 2012. The couple resides in New York City, where Ms. Collier is an investment banker with J.P. Morgan and Mr. Ihrig is an attorney and a basketball agent working at a boutique law firm.
Jennifer Dowis (Col ’06)
Jennifer K. Dowis (Col ’06) will publish her second book, To Catch a Vampire, in September 2012. Her first book, Mind Over Monsters, was published by Midnight Ink Publishing in October 2011. Ms. Dowis writes under the pen name “Jennifer Harlow” and has a contract to write four more books, including What’s a Witch to Do?, due out March 2013.
R. Schmidt (Col ’05, Educ ’12)

R. Brennan Schmidt (Col ’05, Educ ’12) and Sarah Elizabeth Eskew (Col ’09, Grad ’12) were married on July 7, 2012, in Garden VI on the East Lawn. The couple resides in the Belmont neighborhood of Charlottesville.
