Jon R. Wiener (Grad ’84) has accepted a position as the associate dean for math and science at the Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College in Asheville, N.C. He spent 22 years as a faculty-level cancer researcher at the Duke University Medical Center and at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. He leaves after his 10-year tenure as the dean of academic affairs at the University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Houston.

She has served at Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C., for the last 30 years as the chairman of the division of nursing. She retired from Bob Jones University in May 2011.

Shelia Slemp (Col ’95 CM)
Shelia Slemp (Col ’95 L/M) has been serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Ukraine since 2008. She’s been working in community and youth development and with the Opika Performance Group, a group of nine young Ukrainians who are mostly graduates of the Perechyn boarding school. In July 2011, she was selected to share her experiences from the Peace Corps at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival.

Jane S. Kim (Engr ’05 L/M) and Derek Guthrie (Engr ’05, ’07 L/M) were married on May 7, 2011, at the U.Va. Chapel. The reception was held at Alumni Hall. All six groomsmen attended the University: best man Brian Kanagaki (Engr ’06), Michael Alexandrow (Engr ’05 L/M), Thomas Boudreau (Engr ’05 L/M), James B. Jones Jr. (Engr ’05), Jake Leffler (Engr ’05 L/M) and James Perry (Engr ’05). The couple resides in McLean, Va., where Ms. Kim is a design engineer for Arlington County Government and Mr. Guthrie is a design engineer for Ehlert/Bryan Consulting Structural Engineers.

Charles Hendricks (Arch ’97 L/M) received the “best green residential renovation” award from the Virginia Sustainable Building Network. His architectural firm, The Gaines Group, designed the addition and renovation to a late-1800s farmhouse that cut the owner’s electric bills by 56 percent. In 2008, the VSBN named the firm the “best green designers” in Virginia.

Letitia Hickman Green (Col ’84) is a member of the faculty at U.Va.’s School of Engineering and Applied Science, teaching entrepreneurship and finance. She is also working toward a master’s degree in higher education administration in the Curry School. Ms. Green is the co-founder of the Virginia Active Angel Network. She and her husband, Mark, recently became “U.Va. parents” when their son, Kelvin Green (Engr ’14), matriculated at the University last fall. Their youngest daughter, Meagan, is now at American University in the International School of Service.

He was the 2008 federal recipient of the David M. Walker Excellence in Government Performance and Accountability Award. He is now working at the MITRE Corporation in McLean, Va.

Christopher Joseph Yuskaitis (Col ’02 L/M) received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in May 2011, as part of a larger Medical Scientist Training Program, through which he also received his doctorate in neuroscience in June 2009. He and his wife, Erin Wederbrook Yuskaitis (Col ’04 L/M) just moved to Boston, where Dr. Yuskaitis began his pediatric neurology residency at the Children’s Hospital of Boston. Ms. Yuskaitis received her master’s degree in American studies from the University of Alabama in May 2011 after working in the nonprofit arts sector in Birmingham for five years. She is the program and events manager for the Photographic Resource Center at Boston University.
