John Ragosta (Law ’84, Grad ’08 L/M) received the Gilder Lehrman Junior Research Fellowship for the 2010-11 academic year at the Robert H. Smith International Center for Jefferson Studies at Monticello, where he will be working on a second book. His first book, Wellspring of Liberty, was published in the Spring of 2010 by Oxford University Press.

Ms. Talbot is a registered nurse at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in the surgical intensive care unit. Mr. Talbot is a teacher for Salem City Public Schools. The couple resides in Denver, Colo., where they are both completing medical residency training. They have both accepted fellowships at The Children’s Hospital in Denver, which will begin July 2011. Ms. Brown will be a fellow in pediatric hematology/oncology and Mr. Brandon will be in a fellow in pediatric radiology.

Sarah Dunn (Col ’04 L/M) and Justin Davis were married on Sept. 5, 2009, in Duxbury, Mass. Ms. Davis is the daughter of Dan T. Dunn (GSBA ’71, ’76). She is a postdoctoral research scholar in Columbia Law School’s program in the law and economics of capital markets. This Fall, she will join Cravath, Swaine & Moore as an associate. Mr. Davis is an assistant professor in the department of humanities at the City University of New York, New York City College of Technology, in Brooklyn. The couple resides in New York City.

James Phillips (Col ’82)

James Phillips (Col ’82) was elected to the board of trustees of St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Jackson, Miss., where he graduated in 1977 and was recognized as a distinguished alumnus in 2004. Dr. Phillips practices emergency medicine, anesthesiology and pediatric intensive care at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He previously served as director of the Anesthesia Pain Clinic at the Mayo Clinic. For the past 28 years, Colonel Phillips has been in the U.S. Army with a variety of active and reserve assignments. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service as a battalion commander in the 20th Special Forces Group during their tour in Afghanistan and later served with the 1st Cavalry Division in Iraq. He just finished serving as the Mississippi State Surgeon. He is married to Alison Whitman Phillips (College ’82).

They are both serving as officers in the Air Force and are stationed together in Florida. Ms. Atkinson is an intelligence officer and Mr. Atkinson is a test engineer.

Rob Willis (Engr ’91, ’01 L/M) is a lieutenant colonel and experimental test pilot in the U.S. Army. He relinquished command in May of the Army Aviation Flight Test Directorate, co-located in Huntsville, Ala., and Fort Rucker, Ala. In that position, he was responsible for the planning, execution and reporting of the testing of modernized Army rotary-wing, fixed-wing, and unmanned aircraft, as well as associated weapon systems. He and his wife, Tracy, and daughter, Allison, 7, will move to Paris, where Lt. Col. Willis will serve for three years at the U.S. Embassy as defense attaché and commander, International Technology Center – Atlantic/France.

George P. Garmany Jr. (Col ’69, Med ’73 L/M) is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology. He has practiced neurology in Boulder, Colo., for over thirty years and has served as president of the Colorado Society of Clinical Neurologists. He was awarded the 2009 Harold E. Williamson Award for outstanding volunteer medical service by the COPIC Medical Foundation in Colorado. The award was given in recognition of extensive service that Dr. Garmany has provided on behalf of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and Can Do Multiple Sclerosis, formerly the Heuga Center for Multiple Sclerosis. In addition to providing pro bono care for multiple sclerosis patients, Dr. Garmany has made significant contributions to the activity of the MS Society. In the 1980s he founded the Bike MS event which now raises approximately $3 million dollars annually for programs and research funded by the Society. He has also taught residents at the University of Colorado, where he is clinical professor of neurology. In the community, he serves on the board of trustees for the Longs Peak Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
