Mr. Gibb also serves on the board of Long Beach Opera, a 31-year-old company. Based in Los Angeles, Mr. Gibb consults on marketing and communications to law and accounting firms, law schools and nonprofits through his company, Practicable Marketing.

James E. Harris Jr. (Col ’66 L/M) retired November 1 as chairman of the Escape/Apprehension Committee at Beaumont Juvenile Correctional Center in Powhatan County, Va. Mr. Harris served 36 years with the criminal justice system with both the state and regional planning commissions in Farmville and Front Royal, Va. Mr. Smith was the first tactical coordinator for SWAT in Chesterfield County. Mr. Harris was a member of the 1962 U.Va. football team and played “A Team” U.Va. rugby (wing and fullback positions).

Mr. Hardin is vice president of Fidelity National Title Insurance Company in Dallas, where he manages the Dallas operation of its national title services division.

Lee Brittle (Col ’97) is the U.S. Coast Guard’s International Ice Patrol’s Enlisted Person of the Year for 2009. Marine Science Technician First Class Petty Officer Brittle was instrumental in the completion of IIP’s 2009 Ice Season. The Ice Patrol monitors the iceberg danger near the Grand Banks of Newfoundland and provides warnings to mariners to eliminate the risk of iceberg collision in the North Atlantic Ocean. He coordinated and executed two historic aerial deployments of World Ocean Circulation Experiment drifting buoys, including the first deployment from a USCG HC-130J airframe and the first deployment in the Arctic Ocean. Petty Officer Brittle ensured a successful deployment by personnel who were unfamiliar with the deployment procedures in a high profile environment with the Commandant of the Coast Guard and the Director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration on board the aircraft.

Stanley Birch (Col ’67 CM)

Stanley F. Birch Jr. (Col ’67 L/M) received the Intellectual Property Legends Award in September from a collaboration of academic and business associations in Atlanta. He has served as a U.S. Circuit Judge for the Eleventh Circuit since 1990. Judge Birch served in the U.S. Army and is a Vietnam War veteran. He practiced law in Gainesville, Ga., and in Atlanta with Vaughan, Davis, Birch & Murphy until he took his oath of office. His practice focused on copyright law in the entertainment and computer software industries. A frequent speaker and author on the law of copyright, Judge Birch has co-authored a book on copyright with the late Professor L. Ray Patterson of the University of Georgia Law School. At the invitation of the Copyright Society of the USA, Judge Birch presented the 36th Annual Donald C. Brace Lecture on the law of copyright in November of 2006 at the New York University School of Law. The Intellectual Property Legends Award is an event hosted by Georgia State University College of Law and Georgia State University J. Mack Robinson College of Business that recognizes individuals who have made contributions to the area of intellectual property, both on the business side and the legal side.

Jared Goss (Arch ’88 CM)

Jared Goss (Arch ’88 L/M) is an associate curator in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s department of 19th-century, modern and contemporary art in New York City. Mr. Goss arranged “Masterpieces of French Art Deco”, a large gallery dense with French Art Deco furnishings from the museum’s design collection. The selection is nearly 150 objects, which is about 75 percent of the Met’s French Art Deco collection and is the most it has ever exhibited at one time. The show was featured in The New York Times Art Review section on December 11, 2009.

William Bowron (Col ’75 L/M) is president and chief executive officer of Red Diamond, Inc. He is also chairman of the Tea Association of the USA. This is his second term as chairman. Red Diamond is a family-run coffee and tea company, the first in the U.S. to manufacture completely sealed tea bags and the first in the country to offer gallon-sized tea bags. In addition, Red Diamond was the first company in the U.S. to produce decaffeinated tea. Today, it is the nation’s number one seller of ready-to-drink gallon tea in dairy case. Mr. Bowron was named 2009 CEO of the Year by the Birmingham Business Journal. He serves on the board of directors f rRed Diamond and has served on the boards of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, the Birmingham-Jefferson Historical Museum, St. Vincent’s Foundation and the Birmingham United Soccer Association. He serves as a trustee of the Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce and on the advisory board of PreSchool Partners. Mr. Bowron is a member of the Rotary Club of Birmingham and the World Presidents’ Organization.

Mr. Oakes serves as president of White Cap Linen and is owner of Village Realty, both of which operate in Eastern North Carolina. Village Realty, with offices in Corolla, Nags Head and Columbia, N.C., and Ocracoke Island Realty in North Carolina, specialize in vacation rentals, real estate sales and association management throughout the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
