Carl Markowitz (Com ’67 CM)
Carrie (Markowitz) Balsam (Col. 1999) and her husband, Ethan, announce the birth of Lila’s sister, Maris Bryn Balsam, on November 10, 2013. The couple resides in Gaithersburg, MD. Maris is the granddaughter of Carl S. Markowitz (Commerce ’67).
Stephen Tisinger (Col ’74)
Recently retired as Pastor of Christ Our Anchor Presbyterian Church in Annapolis, MD and has relocated to Savannah, GA with his family. Prior to serving the Church, he retired from the Federal Government with 25 years service with the US Geological Survey, Minerals Management Service and the National Park Service. He retired as Deputy Chief of Accounting Operations for the NPS.

Christopher D’Angelo (Col ’75, Law ’78)
Christopher Scott D’Angelo was the President of Session of the program, Collective and Other Forms of Multiple/Mass Actions: How Far Are We in the EU Member States and the EU and How Far Do We Want to Go? Alternative Ways to Deal with Multiple or Mass Claims?” presented at the International Association of Defense Counsel European Meeting in Brussels, Belgium, May, 2013. Mr. D’Angelo is Chairman of the Products Liability, Mass Claims & Risk Management Section and Chairman of International Practice Group at Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads LLP, based out of Philadelphia, PA and New York, NY. The International Association of Defense Counsel, which is the oldest international association of lawyers representing major corporations, both in-house and outside counsel. It consists of approximately 2400 invitation-only, peer-reviewed members who are private, corporate and insurance lawyers from more than 40 countries.

Christopher D’Angelo (Col ’75, Law ’78)
Christopher Scott D’Angelo was a moderator and speaker at the International Corporate Counsel College in Paris, France, in November 2013. The ICCC is an interactive forum that addresses the very latest and coming legal issues of particular importance to in-house corporate counsel in Europe and internationally. It is an unique place where in-house lawyers can discuss issues of concern among themselves and with their outside defense counsel in a dynamic workshop of practical information and analysis. The ICCC is presented each year by the International Association of Defense Counsel, which is the oldest international association of lawyers representing major corporations, both in-house and outside counsel. It consists of approximately 2400 invitation-only, peer-reviewed members who are private, corporate and insurance lawyers from more than 40 countries.
This year’s College was entitled “Mastering New Challenges in a Global World: Six Ways to Meet Your Neighbor’s Legal Culture”.

Heidi Lieske (Com ’01 CM)
Heidi Lieske (Com ’01 CM) recently left her job as brand manager for CoverGirl Cosmetics at Procter & Gamble to focus full-time on her startup, Borrow Mini Couture, an online designer children’s clothing rental service for special occasions. She lives outside of Baltimore with her husband, Alex; and their two young sons, Cobb and Fitch.

Kate Fleming (Col ’08 CM)

Kate Fleming (Col ’08 CM) and Patrick C. “P.C.” Fleming (Grad ’09, ’12) were married Oct. 26, 2013, at River Farm in Alexandria, Va. The couple currently resides in central Florida, where they both work for Rollins College.

Dawn Crim (Col ’89 CM)
Dawn Crim (Col ’89 CM) received the Woman of Achievement Award from the Wisconsin Women of Color Network for her support and continuing commitment to enriching the lives of women of color in her community. Ms. Crim is the associate dean for external relations in the University of Wisconsin, Madison, School of Education.
John Vanderslice (Col ’83 CM)

John Vanderslice (Col ’83 CM) is an associate professor in the writing department at the University of Central Arkansas, where he teaches mostly creative writing. His collection of thematically linked short stories, Island Fog, surveys four centuries of the history of Nantucket Island, Mass., and will be published by Dialogos/Lavender Ink Press in 2014.
Kathryn Minton (Col ’06 CM)
Kathryn Minton (Col ’06 CM) has joined the Center for Constitutional Litigation law firm in Washington, D.C., as a litigation associate. She received a J.D. degree from Washington University Law School in St. Louis in 2010. Prior to joining the CCL, Ms. Minton held positions at the Missouri Court of Appeals for the Eastern District and the Supreme Court of Missouri.
Brian O’Grady (Col ’10 CM)
Brian O’Grady (Col ’10 CM) received a J.D. degree from Mercer University School of Law in Macon, Ga., in May 2013. He is now an associate with Sinnott Nuckols & Logan in Midlothian, Va., where he focuses his practice on insurance defense.

Meg Roughen (Engr ’02 CM)
Meg Ferguson Roughen (SEAS 2002) and her husband, Matt, welcomed a son, Hill Ferguson Roughen, on November 8, 2013. Hill joins big brother Tripp (2.5 yrs). The family lives in Atlanta, Georgia, where Meg works for Southern Company in Information Technology.
Justin Wilson (Col ’94)
Justin Wilson (Col ’94) is the writer and co-executive producer of A Slave in the White House, a 12-hour ABC television series about Paul Jennings, a Virginia-born slave who served as personal valet to President James Madison while at the same time working behind the scenes as a subversive anti-slavery activist. Based on Elizabeth Dowling Taylor’s best-selling book A Slave in the White House, the show will chronicle Jennings’ relationship with the Madison family and his journey to procure his own family’s freedom. The series is Mr. Wilson’s first foray into television. His debut feature film, LUV, premiered at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and earned him and his co-writer, also the film’s director, Sheldon Candis, a 2012 Humanitas Prize nomination.

Geoffrey Drake (Col ’02)
Geoffrey Drake (Col ’02) has been elected partner at King & Spalding in Atlanta. As a member of the firm’s tort litigation and environmental policy practice group, he represents product manufacturers, primarily pharmaceutical and other life science companies, in nationwide high-exposure product liability, personal injury, toxic tort and commercial litigation cases.

Nancy Parr (Col ’80 CM) has been elected to serve a third term as commonwealth’s attorney for the city of Chesapeake, Va.
Andrew Pearson (Col ’02)
Andrew Pearson (Col ’02) has been appointed dean of the Cathedral Church of the Advent in Birmingham, Ala. The Very Reverend Pearson resides in Mountain Brook, Ala., with his wife, Lauren; and their three daughters.
Julie Gurney (Col ’97)

Julie Gurney (Col ’97) and her husband, Jason, welcomed a daughter, Olivia Auden, on Oct. 22, 2013. Olivia joins big brothers Peyton Michael, 11; and Mitchell Ryan, 8. The family resides in South Riding, Va.

Andrew Robertson (Col ’05, Darden ’14 CM)
Andrew Robertson (Col ’05, Darden ’14 CM) and Whitney Jones Robertson (Col ’06 L/M) welcomed their first child, a daughter, Clare Celestine, on Sept. 17, 2013. Clare is the granddaughter of Raymond Robertson (Law ’68 L/M), Celestine Ross Jones (Nurs ’81 L/M) and Philip Jones (Col ’79), and the niece of Cameron Jones (Col ’09) and Anthony Robertson (Col ’10).
Charles Woodard (Col ’00, Res ’10 CM)
Charles Woodard (Col ’00, Res ’10 CM) completed his residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at U.Va. in 2010, followed by a fellowship in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery at Stanford University in 2011. Dr. Woodard is currently an assistant professor of facial and plastic reconstructive surgery at Duke University. He lives in Cary, N.C., with his wife, Erin; and their three children, Larkin, 9; Ainsley, 6; and Weston, 4.
Shannon Mrazik (Col ’03 CM)

David M. Mrazik, Esq. (Col ’01) and Shannon Vivian Mrazik, Esq. (Col ’03) welcomed a son, Cullen Thomas, on September 22, 2013. The couple were married on May 10, 2008 at the U.Va. Chapel. Mr. Mrazik is the General Counsel of Focus Financial Partners, LLC. The family recently relocated from Manhattan to Chappaqua, NY.
Richard Moniuszko (Col ’72)

Richard Moniuszko (Col ’72), deputy superintendent of Fairfax County Public Schools in Fairfax, Va., will retire from K-12 education in January 2014 after a 37-year career in public education. He has accepted a position as an associate professor in educational leadership at George Mason University.

Amy Rosenberg (Col ’95 CM) and her husband, Marshal Allshouse, welcomed a son, Jacob Rosenberg Allshouse, in May 2013.

Craig Coker (Col ’75 CM)
Craig Coker (Col ’75 CM) has been elected to the board of directors of the Virginia Recycling Association and has been named chairman of the board of directors of the Bedford County Economic Development Authority.
Michael Longley (Col ’01 CM)
Michael Longley (Col ’01 CM) and Julie Arehart Longley (Col ’02) welcomed their second child, a son, Charles Cash, on Aug. 14, 2013. Charles joins big brother Samuel Preston. The family resides in Falls Church, Va.

Gregory Cash (Col ’97 CM)
Gregory Cash (Col ’97 CM) was included on REP. magazine’s 2013 list of “Top 100 Wirehouse Advisors,” published in the October 2013 issue of the magazine. Mr. Cash, a managing director in wealth management for Merrill Lynch, has also been recognized on the “Top 40 Wirehouse Advisors Under 40” list.
Buddy Omohundro (Col ’92 CM)

Buddy Omohundro (Col ’92 CM) was named “Outstanding In-House Counsel” for 2013 by the Washington Metropolitan Area Corporate Counsel Association. Mr. Omohundro is senior vice president and general counsel for Apex Systems, whose legal department was named a finalist in the “Outstanding Law Department” category for the second consecutive year.
Eddie Dean (Col ’86 CM)
Eddie Dean (Col ’86 CM) published his third book, Kentucky Traveler: My Life in Music, a collaboration with bluegrass and country musician Ricky Skaggs. His previous title, Man of Constant Sorrow: My Life and Times, co-authored with mountain music legend and fellow Virginian Ralph Stanley, was selected as an editor’s choice and one of the top ten biographies of 2009 by Booklist. Mr. Dean’s work has been included in the Da Capo Best Music Writing anthology series and he is a frequent contributor to the Wall Street Journal, among other publications.
Richard Strulson (Col ’90 CM)
Richard Strulson (Col 90) was recently appointed as the Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of Nature’s Sunshine, a publicly-listed health and wellness company engaged in the manufacture and selling of nutritional and personal care products. Prior to this, Richard was SVP and Chief Privacy Officer of Herbalife. His new position is based in Lehi, Utah.

L. Gracik (Com ’75 CM)
L. Gracik (Com ’75 CM) has been named managing partner of Keiter, the Richmond, Va., area’s largest independent accounting firm, effective Jan. 1, 2014. He joined the firm as a partner and head of the tax department in 1991, after having served as the tax partner in charge of the Richmond office of Deloitte & Touche. In his role as managing partner, he will continue to serve existing clients while overseeing the firm’s strategic direction and being involved in marketing and client development opportunities.
Michelle Albarado (Col ’95 CM)
Michelle Albarado (Col ’95 CM) and Kendrick “Rick” Burner (Col ’95 L/M) welcomed a son, Jefferson, “Jay,” on Aug. 31, 2012, and another son, Andrew Scott, “Drew,” on Sept. 21, 2013. Jay and Drew join big siblings Gabbi, Will and Jack.
Sean Wells (Arch ’95 CM)

Sean Wells (Arch ’95 CM) has designed the label artwork for the award-winning national beer brand Cerveza de los Muertos and for La Catrina Wine. Both product lines have a Day of the Dead theme and can be found in prominent national chain stores. The labels include images from Ms. Wells’ original acrylic paintings that were recently exhibited at De La Serna Fine Arts Studio & Gallery in Santa Fe, N.M., and additional national exhibits of her work are pending. A well-known painter throughout the Southwest, Ms. Wells also produces and hosts a television show, New Mexican Santera, on the regional art form of retablo painting.

Guillaume Torquat (Col ’04) and Stephanie Kretz were married on Sept. 14, 2013, in Megeve, France. The couple resides in London, where Mr. de Torquat works in corporate development for Liberty Global and Ms. Kretz works as an economist for Lombard Odier Darier Hentsch.

Patrick Edwards (Col ’07) has been elected senior pastor of Lake Gaston Baptist Church in Littleton, N.C. He and his family have moved to nearby Ebony, Va.

Martha Alligood (Nurs ’73) received the rank of “professor emeritus” at East Carolina University. She recently published two books: the fifth edition of Nursing Theory: Utilization & Application, and the eighth edition of Nursing Theorists and Their Work.
Brian Hunt (Col ’97 CM)
Brian Hunt (Col ’97 CM) and Heather Christina Heying were married on Nov. 2, 2013, in Virginia Beach. The couple resides in Chesapeake, Va., where both work in the health insurance industry.

Corinne Good (Com ’00, Com ’01 CM)
Corinne Good (Com ’00, Com ’01 CM) was promoted to partner in the tax practice of Ernst & Young in Philadelphia on July 1, 2013. She has extensive experience in assisting clients with minimizing their tax posture while complying with regulatory filing requirements. In her 12-year career with Ernst & Young, Ms. Good has managed significant tax outsourcing engagements, where she oversees federal, state and international tax advisory projects, the annual tax accounting process and tax compliance requirements.

Andrew G. Beshear has been named by Lawyer Monthly magazine as the 2013 Consumer Lawyer of the Year – USA. The award honors the top consumer lawyer in the country.
Tom Holman (Col ’07 CM)
Tom Holman (Col ’07 CM) and Maile Lesica were married on Sept. 7, 2013, in Wilmington, N.C. The groom’s two brothers, Luke Holman (Com ’06 L/M) and Jim Holman (Com ’11 L/M), served as the best men. The three brothers are the sons of John Holman (Col ’71, Law ’74 L/M). The bride and groom graduated from the Stanford Graduate School of Business with MBA degrees in June. They now reside in New York City, where Mr. Holman works for Google and Ms. Lesica works for Gilt Groupe.

Lawrence Croft (Col ’67 CM)
Lawrence Croft (Col ’67 CM) was elected president-general of the Descendants of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 2013, at Independence Hall in Philadelphia. The organization’s mission is to strengthen the principles set forth in the Declaration of Independence and memorialize the men who, in signing the document, pledged to each other their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor.
Harris Hudson (Col ’11 CM)

Harris Hudson (Col ’11 CM) and Chelsea Kait (Col ’11 L/M) were married on May 5, 2013, in Sarasota, Fla. The couple met while playing guitar and singing at The Backyard on the Corner. The couple resides in Germany, where Mr. Hudson is a helicopter pilot with the U.S. Army.
Kanoa Ratliff (Arch ’91 CM)
Kanoa Ratliff (Arch ’91 CM) has been appointed to a two-year term as the leadership team chair of the Midland Church of the Brethren in Fauquier County, Va. The leadership team plans, coordinates and supervises congregation programs and engages in long-term planning and goal setting. In addition, Ms. Ratliff serves on the board of the Curtis Park Swim Team in Stafford County, Va., and on the committee for Boy Scout Troop 161 in Warrenton, Va. She is a member of the Piedmont Republican Women’s Club and the Fauquier County Republican Committee and is active in several homeschooling groups. Ms. Ratliff lives in Fauquier County with her husband, David Ratliff (Engr ’93 L/M); and their two sons.
