Jennifer Hoffman (Educ ’99) and her husband, Joel, welcomed a daughter, Elizabeth Grace, “Ellie,” on Nov. 8, 2011.

Courtney Caprio (Col ’99, Law ’04 L/M) is a senior associate in the entertainment group of Stroock & Stroock & Lavan in Miami.

Dennis Glendenning (Grad ’93) joined Blue Chip Consulting Group as a principal consultant. Mr. Glendenning lives with his wife and three children in Cleveland.

Preston Green (Col ’89 L/M) co-authored an education policy brief titled “Chartering Equity: Using Charter School Legislation and Policy to Advance Equal Educational Opportunity” for the National Education Policy Center. The Huffington Post featured his brief. Mr. Green is the Batschelet chaired professor of educational administration and professor of education and law at Penn State.

Briane Turley (Grad ’88, ’94) lectured at the University of Szeged, Hungary, during the fall 2011 semester under his third Fulbright award since 2002. In September, the university’s faculty awarded him the school’s highest honor, the Pro Facultate Philosophiae medal. Mr. Turley was the first non-European to receive the prize.

Angela Cleveland (Col ’87 L/M) is the commercial director for Shell Upstream International’s Scandinavian division, based in Stavanger, Norway. She has been in Stavanger since 2009 with her husband, Lee; and sons Harlan and Henry. This year marks 20 years living outside the United States. Ms. Cleveland’s prior postings have been in Singapore, The Hague, London and at the International Energy Agency in Paris. Ms. Cleveland received a master’s degree in business administration from INSEAD in July 1998.

Amanda Wright (Col ’07 L/M) married Colin Burns on Sept. 3, 2011, in Richmond, Va., at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church. The reception was held at the Jefferson Hotel. The wedding party included Camden Janney (Col ’07), Deirdre McGuigan (Col ’07 L/M), Jordan Gravely (Arch ’07 L/M), Sara McLinden (Engr ’07 L/M), Mamie Belle (Col ’07 L/M) and Sara Barton  (Col ’07). The couple resides in Dothan, Ala. Ms. Wright is a graduate student at Troy University and Mr. Burns is a nuclear engineer for Southern Co.

Elizabeth Masci Busch (Col ’06 L/M) and her husband, Brian Busch, welcomed their second daughter, Caroline Joy, born on Oct. 26, 2011. She weighed 6 lbs., 8 oz. and measured 20 inches long.

Caroline Harvey Turner (Col ’04) and Bradley W. Turner (Com ’04 L/M) welcomed a daughter, Carter Ann, on Aug. 1, 2011. Carter Ann joins a brother, Ryan, 2. The family resides in Richmond, Va.

Rich Goldbeck (Engr ’03), and his wife, Sara, welcomed their first child, Ava Rose, on Feb. 20, 2012. The Goldbeck family resides in Metuchen, N.J.

Bahareh Moradi (Col ’03) finished her first year as an evening law student at American University’s Washington College of Law. She continues to work full time at the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs on international educational exchanges, including the Gilman Scholarship Program, which supports study abroad by U.S. undergraduates with financial need.

Julia Kremer Massengill (Com ’03 L/M) and John David Massengill (Com ’01, GSBA ’08 L/M) welcomed twins, Carl Tallman, “Carty”; and Fritz August, on Dec. 11, 2011. The family resides in Rowayton, Conn. with their dog, Henry.

Karen Nabholz Stemerman (Col ’01 L/M) and her husband, Jonathan, welcomed their second child, Ella Kathryn, on Aug. 27, 2011. Ella joins a brother, Michael Vincent, 3. The family resides in Avondale, Pa.

Brian James Woodall (Com ’00 L/M) and his wife, Dana, welcomed their first child, Cambria Marie, on Dec. 9, 2011. The family resides in Petaluma, Calif., where Mr. Woodall is the chief executive officer of Lamplighter Financial, a CFO outsourcing business focused on small business mergers and acquisitions.

Andrew Turner (Engr ’00) is the co-founder of CrisisCommons. Government Technology magazine recognized his organization as a Top 25 Doer, Dreamer & Driver of 2012.

Lisa M. Regelman (Com ’99 L/M) and Eric K. Weingarten (Col ’96) welcomed their first child, Noah Meyer, on Dec. 27, 2011. The family resides in Oakland, Calif.

Diane Takata Powell (Com ’97 L/M) and her husband, Ben, welcomed a son, William Makoto, on Dec. 29, 2011. William joins a brother, Chip, 2. The family resides in Charlotte, N.C., where Ms. Powell works as an administrator for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

Nikki Lawson Demian (Col ’97) and her husband, Gary, welcomed their second child, Paisley Carolyn, on Feb. 19, 2012. Paisley joins her brother, Lawson, 1. The family resides in Littleton, Colo.

Sarah Steger Blair (Engr ’96 L/M) and her husband, Mark, welcomed a daughter, Morgen Josephine, on Nov. 21, 2011. Morgen joins a sister, Finley, age 2. The family resides in Atlanta, where Mr. and Ms. Blair are both architects.

Mandy Moore (Col ’95 L/M) and her husband, David Burnie, welcomed a son, Zachary Lockwood, on Feb. 12, 2012. Zach joins a sister, Adele Virginia, 4. Adele and Zach are the niece and nephew, respectively, of Ryan Lockwood Moore (Col ’93). The family splits its time between Clifton, Va.; and Toronto, where Mr. Burnie runs a consulting business, The Burnie Group. Ms. Moore works in product management in the software industry, most recently at OANDA Corp.

Liz Fathman (Grad ’90, ’01) co-wrote a book, Missouri Harvest: A Guide to the Growers and Producers in the Show-Me State, which has been co-published by Reedy Press and Webster University Press.

Michael L. Goodove (Com ’89) was recognized by Virginia Super Lawyers in 2012 in the area of personal injury law. He is a partner in the Norfolk law firm of Swartz, Taliaferro, Swartz & Goodove.

Robert F. Clark (Col ’81) and Lauren Rose Clark (Nurs ’82) are pleased to announce the birth of their second granddaughter, Mary Rose Terese Clapper. The Clarks are frequent visitors to New Orleans, where Mary Rose lives with her parents and big sister, Kate.

Chuck Bamford (Com ’81) had his first novel, Some Things Are Never Forgiven, published by Penguin Press’ Book Country imprint. Mr. Bamford has published four textbooks in the areas of strategy and entrepreneurship.

Scott Cook (Col ’77 L/M) retired after 34 years in procurement with the federal government in Washington, D.C., and has begun his second career as the director of small business programs at the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center in Albuquerque, N.M.

Laurence “Larry” M. Evans (Col ’66 L/M) was inducted into the National Academy of Arbitrators in September 2011. He is a labor arbitrator who practices in Rockville, Md.

Robert P. Borsody (Engr ’61, Law ’64 L/M) and a business partner founded Premier Senior Living, which owns and operates assisted living and memory care properties. The company owns and operates nine properties in three states and is actively looking for more to acquire. Mr. Borsody is recently retired from practicing law and is a fourth-degree black belt in tae kwon do. On weekends, he builds houses with firewood, a process that he writes about on his blog.

Will Coleman (Col ’07) qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games in the equestrian sport of eventing. He is now vying for selection for the U.S. Olympic Team. He is based in Gordonsville, Va., where he trains horses at all levels, including the two aimed at the London Olympics.

Annie Cardi (Col ’06 L/M) married Walt McGough (Col ’06) on Nov. 5, 2011, in Charlottesville. Ms. Cardi is the daughter of Stephen A. Cardi (Law ’66). Mr. McGough is the son of W. Thomas McGough Jr. (Law ’78 L/M) and Rebecca McGough (Nurs ’76 L/M). The wedding party included Aylin Skroejer (Col ’06, Law ’09 L/M), Veronica Daher (Col ’06), Kara Dowe (Engr ’06 L/M), Catherine Donnellan (Col ’06 L/M), Maria Meriwether (Col ’06), Horace Ballard (Col ’06 L/M), Chat Hull (Col ’06 L/M) and Jonathan Green (Col ’07). The couple currently lives in Brookline, Mass.

Willona Sloan (Col ’97) was awarded a residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Alberta, Canada. She is a writer and editor based in Washington, D.C.

Sean Haran (Col ’91 L/M) joined Nixon Peabody’s government investigations and white-collar defense practice in New York City. In addition to his experience as defense counsel, Mr. Haran served for seven years as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Eastern District of New York, where he supervised federal prosecutors as deputy chief of the Business and Securities Fraud Section.

Timothy Duggan (Com ’82 L/M) joined TD Bank as senior vice president in middle market and government contract banking in Vienna, Va. Prior to joining TD Bank, he served for 17 years with SunTrust in the Greater Washington, D.C., and Baltimore region.

Michelle Trong Perrin (Col ’01 L/M) married Brian Marc Steinberg on Dec. 18, 2011, at Soldiers’ Memorial Chapel in Honolulu. The bride was escorted down the aisle by her father, Michael T. Perrin (Com ’75 L/M). The couple resides in Fairfax County, where Ms. Perrin-Steinberg practices in the area of international trade compliance law and Mr. Steinberg works for the U.S. Department of Defense.

Kathryn Lavelle (Grad ’90) published her second book with Oxford University Press, Legislating International Organizations: The US Congress, the IMF, and the World Bank, in October 2011. It explores the historical relationship among these institutions from their founding at Bretton Woods through the 2008 financial crisis. To research it, Ms. Lavelle served as a Congressional Fellow on the staff of the House Committee on Financial Services.

Michael Milgraum (Col ’86, Law ’90 L/M), published a novel, Never Forget My Soul, which describes a psychospiritual journey to heal from trauma. Its main characters are two children of Holocaust survivors. Dr. Milgraum practices psychology in Silver Spring, Md.

Steve Werber (Col ’87 L/M) is a portfolio manager for the global focus strategy at IronBridge Capital Management, splitting his time among Charleston, Chicago and London. After eight years in London and 11 years in Greenwich, Conn., Mr. Werber and his family relocated to Charleston, S.C., last August to be closer to their extended families. He and his wife, Caroline, have five children between the ages of 4 and 14, four boys and a girl.

Renee Rinaldi Cole (Nurs ’80 L/M) received the Outstanding Faculty Award from the December 2011 Mississippi College School of Nursing graduating class.

Genevieve “Ginny” Harlow Thompson (Col ’98 L/M) and David Thompson welcomed a daughter, Elizabeth Virginia Lee, “Bess,” on Feb. 26, 2011. Bess joins a sister, Grace Nurney; and a brother, Harlow.

Robert W. Hall (Arch ’89 L/M) is vice president of construction for the Raleigh, N.C., office of Clancy & Theys Construction Co. Mr. Hall has been with the company for 14 years.

Alison Agüero (Engr ’08) married Daniel Dooley (Col ’08) on July 2, 2011, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Washington, D.C., where the couple resides. The wedding party included Ann Marie Matheson (Col ’07 L/M), Monique Agüero (Col ’12 L/M), Christiaan Rasmussen (Com ’08), Gabriel Martinez (Com ’08 L/M) and Sean Guyton (Col ’08). The wedding was featured on Washingtonian’s Bridal Party blog. Ms. Agüero works as a consultant for Accenture and Mr. Dooley is earning a doctorate in classics at Johns Hopkins University.

Erin O’Neil Pesant (Engr ’99 L/M) and Charles Pesant (Col ’99) welcomed a son, Theodore Thomas, on July 23, 2011. Theo joins a brother, George, 2.

Simeon Taft (Col ’99) married Heidi Kapustka at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania, where both were graduate students, on Nov. 19, 2011. Dr. Taft is a veterinarian in Northern Virginia and Ms. Kapustka is a nurse practitioner.

Brian Lange (Col ’99 L/M) and Stacey Zagol Lange (Col ’00 L/M) welcomed a son, Colby Richard, in November 2011. Colby joins a brother, Carter, 5; and a sister, Campbell, 2. The family resides in Chapel Hill, N.C., where Mr. Lange is a marketing director at GlaxoSmithKline.

Wesley Martin (Col ’97 L/M) completed a yearlong mobilization and deployment to Iraq in support of Operation New Dawn. Mr. Martin now serves as civilian counsel to the U.S. Army Reserve Command at Fort Bragg and resides with his wife, Dr. Carlene Rosado-Martin, in North Carolina.

Julie K. Rose (Grad ’96) published her second novel, Oleanna. Set during the separation of Norway from Sweden in 1905, the novel was inspired by the life of the author’s great-great-aunts. Ms. Rose’s first novel, The Pilgrim Glass, was published in 2010.

Kathryn Albright Hardesty (Col ’76 L/M) researched and edited a book, O’Bannon: Lieutenant Presley Neville O’Bannon, Hero of the War with Barbary Pirates in Tripoli, written by Trudy J. Sundberg. Ms. Sundberg was Ms. Hardesty’s high school English teacher.

Doug Gehley (Arch ’76) is the East Coast operations manager at SHW Group. Mr. Gehley’s new responsibilities will include office and staff management, recruiting, education, training and financial management for SHW Group’s Baltimore, Reston and Charlottesville offices. In addition, he will continue to serve the firm as an associate principal, with project and business development responsibilities.

Ed Baxa (Col ’75, Law ’78 L/M) is the recipient of the 2012 Florida Bar President’s Pro Bono Services Award for the 9th Judicial Circuit. Mr. Baxa is a partner in Foley & Lardner’s Orlando office and chair of the firm’s National Pro Bono Legal Services Committee.

David Melon (Col ’03 L/M) and Jennifer Melon (Col ’03 L/M) welcomed a daughter, Genevieve Sage, on Jan. 3, 2012. She joins a brother, Ethan, 2. The family resides in Columbus, Ohio, but will be relocating to Hickory, N.C., in July.

Kristin Benson (Col ’06 L/M) married Daniel Freudberg (Col ’08) on Sept. 4, 2011, in Richmond, Va. The couple resides in Nashville, Tenn.
