“Wedding” Class Notes

Ashley Cristina Augustus (Col ’07) and Bobbie Lee King Jr. (Law ’09) married on Sept. 9, 2017 at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Richmond, Virginia. The reception was held at the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond. UVA alumni in the bridal party were Elise Min (Col ’07), Tiana Bolden (Col ’07), Kaneka Hall (Col ’07), Chadron Lee Edwards (Law ’09), Robert Ludwig (Law ’07, Darden ’08), Paul Harper (Darden ’05, ’11), and Levi Christian Pearson (Law ’09). Many other UVA alumni were in attendance. Mrs. King is completing her medical education at UNC-Chapel Hill and Mr. King works as a senior attorney for NextEra Energy in Miami, Florida.

Ashley Shamblin (Col ’15 L/M) and Jamie Nettles (Engr ’15 L/M) were married on Oct. 7, 2017, the weekend of UVA’s Bicentennial Celebration, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. A large contingency of Wahoos came to celebrate with friends and family. Alumni, including Jamie’s mom and sister, Jenny Symon Nettles (Educ ’81 L/M) and Caroline Nettles Kennedy (Engr ’09 L/M) sang the Good Old Song at the reception held at the North River Yacht Club. The groom’s cake celebrated his time at UVA as Cav Man, and his days playing on the men’s club basketball team. Officiating was the couple’s former Reformed University Fellowship minister, Shawn Slate. Other UVA alumni in the wedding party included Taylor Anderson (Col ’15 L/M), Sarah Axmann (Com ’15 L/M), Anne Jordan (Col ’15, Batten ’16), Mary Mulhern (Com ’15 L/M), Mary Lansden Brewbaker Rees-Jones (Col ’14), Katherine Ryan (Bat ’16 L/M), Kate Thorne (Col ’16 L/M), Parker Bleam (Eng ’14), Peter Dorsey (Col ’15), Randy Galindo (Com ’15 L/M), Daniel Harelson (Eng ’15 L/M), Frank Hiemstra (Engr ’14, ’16), Ian Prum (Col ’15, Batten ’16), Drew Widner (Com ’15 L/M), and Will Wilson (Engr ’15 L/M). The couple lives in Washington, D.C. where Mr. Nettles is employed by Capital One and Ms. Nettles works at NPR.

Julia Tazelaar (Col ’16 L/M) married Joseph Wells on Sept. 23, 2017, in Princeton, New Jersey. There were many UVA graduates in attendance including the bride’s father Eric Tazelaar (Arch ’82 L/M), maid of honor Sam Karp (Col ’15 L/M), and bridesmaid Jacqueline O’Brien (Col ’16 L/M). Guests at the reception were serenaded by an impromptu rendition of the Good Ol’ Song performed by a large contingent of Wahoos. The couple lives in New York City where she is a math teacher at a charter school in Harlem and he is a data analyst for NYU Langone Health Systems. 

Jeffrey Miller (Engr ’11) married Rizalina Suribenin in Annapolis, Maryland, on Sept. 2, 2017. He commissioned in the Navy upon graduating from the University and met his wife while stationed in Everett, Washington. She is currently stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, and he works in Reston, Virginia, in cybersecurity for Akamai Technologies.

Bridget Mahoney (Col ’05) and Jean Pierre Nogues were married on Sept. 23, 2017, in New York City. The couple live in Brooklyn, New York, where Ms. Mahoney is a social worker and Mr. Nogues is a public defender.

Charles L.H. “Chat” Hull (Col ’06 L/M) married Risa “Lisa” Kimura on July 7, 2017 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and then again on Oct. 21, 2017, in Tokyo, Japan. The couple lives in Santiago, Chile.

Laura Rose Pall (Col ’08) married Christopher Butler on Oct. 21, 2017, in Williamsburg, Virginia. The couple lives in Newport News, Virginia, where Ms. Pall works in marketing for Smithfield Foods and Mr. Butler works for NAVSEA. Many UVA alumni were part of the celebration, including Kimberly Spence Oakley (Col ’08 L/M), Alex Hardy McPherson (Col ’08 L/M) and Elyse Carreno Burke (Nurs ’08).

Evan Mulvihill (Col ’08, Med ’13) and Christine Boulos were married on Sept. 23, 2017 in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. The couple lives in Columbus, Ohio, where he is pursuing a fellowship in pediatric rheumatology and she is a pediatric clinical pharmacist.

Jennifer E. Allen (Col ’06 L/M) and Todd Wiltgen were married on Aug. 26, 2017, in Lincoln, Nebraska, in the presence of Virginia alumni from near and far. The couple lives in Lincoln where Mrs. Wiltgen works as director of government affairs for Nebraska Total Care and serves as the president of the UVA Club of Omaha. Mr. Wiltgen is the elected chairman of the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners. Bridesmaids included Emily Longenecker (Col ’06) and Sarah Smith Towell (Col ’06). 

Sarah Stoneham (Col ’06, Darden ’12) and Marvin Boyd (Com ’11 L/M) were married on March 18, 2017, at the Ashburn Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department where Mr. Boyd volunteers as an EMT. The reception was held at Belmont Country Club in Ashburn, Virginia.  

Tom Decarlo (Col ’06, Darden ’12) and Lizzie Reifenheiser (Darden ’13) were married on June 3, 2017, in Darien, Connecticut, surrounded by family and many UVA friends. Tom and Lizzie met while MBA students at Darden and began dating after graduation when they were neighbors in Manhattan, where they still live. Their bridal party included Billy Petersen (Col ’06), Warner Lewis (Col ’06, Darden ’14) Sean Sullivan (Col ’06),Carter Kahle Slattery (Col ’06), Travis Danysh (Darden ’12), John Falkenberg (Darden ’12) and Allison “Ally” Fast (Darden ’13).  

Sarah Williamson Kirwin (Col ’11, Batten ’12 L/M) was married to Kevin Kirwin of Minneapolis on Sept. 2, 2017. She graduated from Duke University School of Law in May 2017 and has begun work as an associate in the Washington, D.C., office of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer and Feld.

James Lopez (Engr ’83) and Efrem Lee were married in Falls Church, Virginia, on Sept. 1, 2017. Mr. Lee now gets to enjoy the parenting responsibilities of raising James’ two adopted children.

Lauren Peng Farrar (Engr ’11) and Nathaniel Farrar (Col ’11) were married June 2, 2017, at Long Branch Plantation in Boyce, Virginia. The couple lives in Burke, Virginia, where Mr. Farrar is an environmental scientist and Mrs. Farrar is a patent examiner.

Leigh Rayfield (Col ’09) and Aaron Gahr (Engr ’09, Arch ’13) were married on April 29, 2017, their ten year anniversary, in Charlottesville. Many fellow Hoos were there to help them celebrate.

Meghan L. Abramczyk (Engr ’10) and P. Douglas Godfrin (Engr ’10) were married on May 27, 2017 in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts in the presence of many Virginia alumni. Having recently finished graduate and post-graduate work in Boston, they currently live and work in Midland, Michigan.

Suzy Quinn Cincinnati (Col ’06) and Josh Cincinnati (Col ’07) were married April 15, 2017 in Fairfax, Virginia. The couple moved to San Francisco two years ago and have every intention of returning to Charlottesville when they are ready to retire. Josh is currently a developer advocate for Lyft and Suzy works at TechSoup, an SF-based global nonprofit.

Daniel Rausa (Col ’10 L/M) and Jacqueline Papadopoulos were married on May 20, 2017 in Oakdale, NY.  The couple met in medical school and now resides in Norfolk, VA where Jacqueline is a pediatrician and Daniel is finishing his residency in internal medicine as a lieutenant in the United States Navy.  Jacqueline recently received news that she matched into the pediatric cardiology fellowship program at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Chicago, IL! 

Alison E. Nelson (Col ’80 L/M) married Bruce F. Martin on June 18, 2016 in Oak Park, Illinois. Ms. Nelson is a teacher of gifted elementary students; Mr. Martin, a 1982 graduate of Dartmouth College, is a senior vice president in commercial lending with J.P. Morgan Chase. The couple reside in Oak Park, a suburb of Chicago.

Melissa Cifuentes Nelson (Col ’05) married Matthew Nelson on March 18, 2017 by Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. The couple resides in New Jersey, where Mr. Nelson is a business owner and Mrs. Nelson works as a global marketing manager while pursuing her MBA from Montclair State University.

Kathryn E. Alley (Col ’08, Educ ’08 L/M) and Bryan Norwood were married October 15, 2016, at the Rigmor House in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Evelyn Ahlfield (Col ’08) was a bridesmaid, and other alumni attendees included Tosin Oluwole (Col ’08), Amanda Brill Hasley (Col ’08) and Susan Fisher Mahlburg (Col ’08). The couple now lives in Hillsborough, where Mrs. Norwood is a seventh- and eighth-grade social studies teacher with Orange County Schools.

Jessica Ritchie (Col ’05) and Kevin Joyce (Educ ’04) were married on October 1, 2016 in Williamsburg, Virginia. The couple live with their terrier in Norfolk, Virginia.

Anne Holub (Col ’99) married Dan Snedigar on September 4, 2016 in Billings, Montana. Anne continues to write in Montana where her husband practices law. They also welcomed a new addition this year: a labradoodle named Merle.

Katharine Stabler (Arch ’13) and William James Brownhill (Engr ’13) were married on Oct. 22, 2016, at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club. The couple lives in Dallas, Texas.

Holly Reeder (Col ’13 L/M) and Townshend Young (Col ’13 L/M) were married in Earlysville, VA at Panorama Farms on August 27, 2016. Holly and Townshend live in Washington, D.C. where Holly is a Consultant with Deloitte and Townshend is a Senior Manager for Client Success at Vorsight. The wedding party had 10 UVA alums!

Kellie J. Walker (Col ’11, Com ’12) and Nikolaus J. Lawson (Col ’12 L/M) were married October 8, 2016, in Duck, North Carolina, during Hurricane Matthew. They met as neighbors on 14th Street in Charlottesville and currently live in Apex, North Carolina. Mr. Lawson is finishing his PharmD and M.B.A. degrees, and Ms. Walker works at the Durham Performing Arts Center.

Lauren Summers Nelson (Com ’10, Darden ’15) and Samuel D. Hutchings (Darden ’15) were married on September 3, 2016, in New Kent, Virginia, in the presence of many Virginia alumni. The couple currently lives and works in Richmond, Virginia.

Sarah Smith (Col ’14 CM) and Robert “Max” Wheeler (Col ’14 L/M) were married June 4, 2016, in Front Royal, Virginia. The couple lives in Columbus, Ohio, where they attend graduate school at the Ohio State University.

Marcus Rosti (Col ’14, Data ’16 CM) and Katherine Schinkel (Col ’13, Data ’16 L/M) were married September 17, 2016, at the Colonnade Club. They met in a math class at UVA, and Mr. Rosti took all the same math classes as Ms. Schinkel until she finally took the hint and agreed to a date. They ended up pursuing masters of science degrees in the data science program together.

Kristen Meletti (Col ’07 CM) and David Peacock (Col ’07) were married July 2, 2016, at the UVA Chapel. The wedding party included Katie Daughtry (Col ’07), Kamaren Suwijn (Col ’06), Josh Singer (Col ’06 L/M) and Eric Ball (Col ’08 L/M). Mr. Peacock’s grandmother Phyllis Curt, who served on UVA’s nursing faculty from 1950 to 1954, was also in attendance.

William Duke (Engr ’07) and Megan A. Machich (Col ’09) were married September 10, 2016, in Richmond, Virginia. Mr. Duke is a consultant with Spy Pond Partners, and Ms. Machich is a specialty dermatology representative with LEO Pharma. The couple plan to remain in Richmond.

Matthew Coleman (Col ’03, Darden ’11 CM) and D. Christine Shayesteh were married on July 16, 2016, at the Legion of Honor near their home in San Francisco, California. Ms. Shayesteh is a personal counselor at San Francisco’s Immaculate Conception Academy and is founder and CEO of Sol Sisters. Mr. Coleman is a weather risk analyst at hedge fund Nephila Advisors.

Lisa Jeffreys (Com ’02 CM) and Walker Duncan were married on November 19, 2016, in Nashville, Tennessee. The couple plan to live in Nashville, where Ms. Jeffreys leads the corporate development efforts for Premise Health and Mr. Duncan leads content strategy for Jarrard Phillips Cate & Hancock.

Ryan Chorazy (Col ’05 CM) and Katie McIntosh (Com ’08) were married on May 21, 2016, in Virginia Beach. The couple lives in New York City, where Ms. Chorazy works in strategy development for Deloitte and Mr. Chorazy is a vice president at the private equity group Liberty Partners.

Clarissa Klug (Col ’89 CM) and Angelo Volpe were married August 9, 2015. The couple’s rings had been blessed in a ceremony in Pavilion VII that included a reading by classmate Erin Monaghan (Col ’89). The Volpes live in Columbia Heights, Minnesota.

Yuzhen Zheng (Col ’04 CM) and Seweryn Sztalkoper were married May 28, 2016, in Warsaw, Poland.

Hamilton Lombard (Col ’11) and Nicole “Mei” Tuong (Col ’12 L/M) were married in Charlottesville on May 9, 2016. The couple lives in Charlottesville, where Mr. Lombard is a demographics research analyst at the University’s Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service and Dr. Tuong is a urology resident at the University of Virginia Health System.
