“Wedding” Class Notes

Kathryn Wilderotter (COL ’96 CM) married the wonderful, beautiful and talented Mara Bayewitz in May in a small ceremony held at a friend’s home.  While they were able to wait long enough for their loved ones to be vaccinated against COVID-19, they had absolutely no desire to wait one moment longer.  Both women are mental health therapists practicing in Maryland and were overjoyed to be able to hug their family members in person and share this moment with them.

Brett Herbert (Col ’10) married Mallory Taylor Brennan on July 24, 2021.

​Emily Echols (Col ’11 CM) and Robert DiCostanzo (Com ’12 CM) were married at King Family Vineyards in Crozet, Virginia, on July 10, 2021, surrounded by friends and family. The couple lives in New York City. 

Danielle Childress MacRae (Col ’16, Batten ’17 CM) and James MacRae (Engr ’14 CM) were married at James Monroe’s Highland in Charlottesville on June 12, 2021. The couple was grateful to return to Virginia for their wedding after a recent cross-country move to Los Angeles.

Derrick Agee (Col ’14) and Rachel Bryant Agee (Nurs ’19 CM) celebrated their one year wedding anniversary! 

Ben Mackovak (Darden ’07 CM) married to Catherine Banton on the shores of Lake Erie in September 2019. The couple celebrated with a wide cast of characters from the UVA classes of 2002, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010, who partied under the stars on a perfect summer night. The couple lives in Bratenahl, Ohio. 

David Moltz (Col ’08) and Campbell Buie (Grad ’10) married on Sept. 26, 2020, in a small, outdoor ceremony at Wisdom Oak Winery in North Garden, Virginia. Both are changing their last names to Buie-Moltz. Campbell is certification program manager at Teachstone, Inc. and, as of Nov. 1, 2020, David is director of strategic communications at UVA Health. Previously, he was communications manager for UVA’s Office of the President.

Sean Murphy (Col ’85 CM) and Laura Frederick (Col ’87 CM) were married on Oct. 4, 2020, in New Braunfels, Texas, and are preparing to relocate from their home in Austin to Winchester, Virginia.

Kimberly Sine (Col ’10 CM) married Anthony Jamison at a beautiful outdoor ceremony in Alexandria, Virginia, on Oct. 24, 2020, surrounded by their immediate family. The couple lives in Washington, D.C. 

Meredith Loretta (Col ’12, Law ’17) and Kyle Davis (Col ’12) were married on Aug. 29, 2020, surrounded by their close family and wedding party in a micro-ceremony at the Carlyle House in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. Meredith is a securities associate at WilmerHale in Washington, D.C., and Kyle is head of corporate development at a software company. They live in DuPont Circle with their rescue beagle-chihuahua mix, Beaux. 

Kyle Mallinak (Law ’13) married Stella Kamm on July 25, 2020. Mr. and Mrs. Mallinak are both practicing attorneys in Nashville, Tennessee.

Eliza Valentine Holzbach (Col ’12) married Grant Willis Holzbach on March 21, 2020, in Richmond, Virginia. The bride had originally planned to celebrate with many alums but due to Covid-19 had a family ceremony in her parents backyard. Several UVA alumni were present, including the father and mother of the bride, Thomas Valentine (Col ’80) and Deborah Huger Valentine (Col ’80); and the bride’s brother and sister-in-law, Tee Valentine (Darden ’16) and Elizabeth Eldred Valentine (Col ’09). The bride and groom were virtually surrounded by bridesmaids: Jessie Sauer (Col ’12), Ann Johnson Mitchell (Col ’12), Margaret Szumski Grymes (Col ’12), Renee Brown (Col ’12) and groomsman, Greg O’Brien (Col ’08). The couple lives in Richmond, Virginia.

Lauren McQuistion (Arch ’11) and Tyler Whitney (Arch ’12) married on March 14, 2020, before friends and family. The couple live in Charlottesville where Tyler is an associate at Grimm + Parker and Lauren is pursuing a PhD in the Constructed Environment at the School of Architecture.

Meghan Elizabeth Zukowsky (Col ’13 L/M) married J.E. “Trey” Akridge III on Oct. 5, 2019, at Septenary Winery at Seven Oaks Farm outside Charlottesville. Many UVA alumni were present, including the maid of honor, Caroline Zukowsky (Col ’18), and bridesmaid, Jordan McEwen (Col ’13). The couple lives in the Roanoke, Virginia, where Meghan is a clinical pharmacy specialist at the Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Trey is the director of pharmacy at Lewis Gale Medical Center.

D. Lee Galloway III (Col ’03, Educ ’04) and Julie Martin Jernigan were married in Fredericksburg, Virginia, on March 29, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a small ceremony was held with Lee’s and Julie’s parents and close family friends.  The ceremony was officiated by Charles S. Sharp (Law ’77).  Prior to the wedding, rain was falling but as time came for Julie to be escorted down the aisle, the sun appeared and brightened the entire afternoon. The couple lives in Charlottesville, where Lee works for the Department of Defense and Julie is the vice president of success and community design for Quince Health.

Lauren Schwartz (Col ’10) and Lance Shapiro (Engr ’10) were married in Washington, D.C., on June 1, 2019. Many ’Hoos celebrated with them and their families, including forming a dancing circle when “Wagon Wheel” started playing. Lauren and Lance met the first day they moved into the old Webb first-year dorm in August 2006. The couple lives in New York City, where Lauren is completing her fellowship in hematology/oncology at the Montefiore Medical Center and Lance is a patent attorney at Ropes & Gray. 

William Hill (Col ’12, Grad ’15 L/M) and Jazzirelle Sepulveda (Col ’12 L/M) celebrated their wedding in Washington, D.C., on May 25, 2019. They met at UVA and both attended Howard University where they earned professional degrees in medicine and law. William is completing his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Souhern California, and Jazzirelle is a litigation and white collar associate at Covington & Burling. 

Caroline Massie (Col ’13) and Richard DeJarnette (Com ’13 L/M) were married on May 18, 2019, at the bride’s family farm in Rappahannock County, Virginia. The couple lives in Richmond, where Caroline works as a marketing manager and Richard as an accountant.

Arianna Parsons (Col ’13) and Grady Kidder (Com ’13) were married in San Francisco on May 26, 2019. Lots of fellow ’Hoos helped to celebrate! Arianna and Grady live in New York City.

Dylan Staples (Engr ’14) will marry Rachel Boots (Engr ’14) on September 1, 2019 in Charlottesville. The couple met at UVA during their studies in civil engineering. They now live in Washington, D.C., and work as engineers. 

Amanda Tuck Vizi (Educ ’06) married Frederick Michael Vizi Jr. in Las Vegas on March 28, 2019. They celebrated by watching the ’Hoos win their Sweet 16 and Elite 8 games in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.  

Maggie Thornton (Col ’08, Educ ’11, ’21 L/M) married Nathan Reeder (Law ’17) on June 29, 2019, in Radford, Virginia. The couple will live in Philadelphia. Thornton is a doctoral student in educational leadership and policy at UVA, and Reeder is an attorney with Duane Morris. The wedding party included Rachel Savoy Caldwell (Col ’11, Educ ’11), Kathryn Golcheski Givens (Educ ’11), Alexa Miller Quinn (Col ’11, Educ ’21), Casey Paul Resnick (Col ’09, Educ ’15), and Hannah Trible (Col ’09).

Jordan Wenger (Com ’04) married Gregory Foster Brown on Jan.19, 2019 in Rancho Santa Fe, California. The couple, along with stepson, Bruce, age 6, lives in Newport Beach, California. Jordan completed her masters from the Kellogg School of Management in 2014 and is a retired strategy consultant. Greg is a commercial debt and equity broker with HFF.

Sophia Ximena Ahl (Col ’15) and James J. “Jimmy” Sloan (Engr ’14) were married on Feb. 23, 2019, at Catedral de Santa Catalina de Alejandria in Cartagena, Colombia, the bride’s maternal ancestral home country. Jimmy is a great grandson of the late Dr. Claude C. Coleman, professor of neurosurgery and founder of the department at the UVA School of Medicine. Thomas L. Johnson (Col ’14) was best man. Other Cavaliers in the wedding party were: Mary Kate Amato (Col ’15), Whitt Clement (Col ’14, Com ’15 L/M), Madelyn Flinn (Com ’15), Zander Geronimos (Com ’14), Charles Gillock (Col ’14 L/M), Story Hinckley (Col ’15), Jake Ingrassia (Col ’13), Peter Kiernan (Col ’14), Maisie Vere Nicoll (Col ’15 L/M), Beau Perona (Arch ’13) and Julia Sroba (Col ’15, Educ ’16).

In total about 100 Virginia alums made the trip to the tropics for the Ahl-Sloan nuptial celebration. After an Asian honeymoon, the couple resides in New York City.

Donna Reid Foley (Col ’82 L/M) married Robert K. Rennhack on Dec. 8, 2018, at Second Presbyterian Church in Baltimore. Foley is an independent book editor and Rennhack is deputy director, western hemisphere, for the International Monetary Fund. The couple resides in Potomac, Maryland.

Christy Williams (Col ’05 L/M) married Robert Coombs on June 9, 2018, in Brooklyn, New York, at the Brooklyn Historical Society. Their families and closest friends, including many UVA alums, were in attendance.

Elizabeth Gress Muenster (Col ’74 L/M) married David W. Hunt (Col ’74, Law ’77 L/M) on Jan. 2, 2019, in Great Falls, Virginia. They met in Jeff Hall (Hotel C) in 1973.

Terrye Underwood (Com ’94 L/M) and William S. “Jake” Wheatley III (Col ’94) were married Nov. 17, 2018, in Paradise Valley, Arizona. The couple lives in Denver, Colorado.

Ashley Hughes (Col ’13) married Eduardo Bustamante on Sept. 28, 2018, in Purcellville, Virginia, among family, friends and many UVA alumni. The couple lives in the Washington, D.C., suburbs, where Eduardo is a project manager for Amazon Web Services. Ashley is a user experience designer working in Reston Town Center. 

Axel Cooper (Col ’09, Med ’14) and Devon Hawkins (Educ ’09, Med ’13 L/M) were married on Oct. 7, 2018, in Arlington, Virginia. The two are completing general surgery residency and will serve in the U.S. military after their training.

Schafer Beatrice Bomstein (Col ’08, Batten ’09) married Alain Castella in Washington, D.C. on May 5, 2018. The couple currently lives in Kyiv, Ukraine. Bomstein is the head of the ACCESS Consortium with People in Need, a Czech NGO, and Castella is a finance and administration manager at the International Committee of the Red Cross.  

Randy Schill (Col ’92 L/M) married Courtney Gentleman on June 16, 2018, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Bud Schill (Law ’71) officiated the ceremony. The couple lives in Chicago.

Whitney Caudill (Col ’99) and Christopher Bandemer were married on June 16, 2018, in Grundy, Virginia. The couple lives in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where she is vice president for human resources and strategic initiatives at Manchester University, and he is a practicing attorney at Bandemer Law.

Jean Goodman Baker (Col ’12) married Robert Baker on May 12, 2018, in Norfolk, Virginia. Many UVA alumni were present, including the father of the bride, Wayne Goodman (Col ’78) and the uncles of the bride, Scott Goodman (Col ’75 L/M) and Lance Goodman (Col ’85, Med ’89 L/M). Among the many friends in attendance were Renee Brown (Col ’12), Annie Cottrell (Col ’12), Cille Crowley (Col ’12), Courtenay Dobbins (Col ’12 L/M), Catherine Gamper (Col ’12 L/M), Caroline Gottwald Rider (Col ’12, Darden ’19 L/M), Katherine Hetzer (Col ’12), Jessie Sauer (Col ’12), Lucy Scholz (Col ’12 L/M), Genny Stulb (Col ’12 L/M), Charlotte Sullivan (Col ’12), Meg Szumski (Col ’12) and Eliza Valentine (Col ’12). The couple lives in Richmond, Virginia.

Randolph E. Shelton III (Col ’05) married Jacqueline Nordahl on Nov. 25, 2017, at the Country Club of North Carolina in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

Katherine Larsen (Col ’06) married Matthew Johnson on March 10, 2018, at All Souls Church Unitarian in Washington, D.C. Carrie Wright (Col ’06), Allison Roche-Lynch (Col ’06) and Claire O’Rourke (Col ’07) served as bridesmaids. Many other UVA graduates were in attendance.

Gabriela Gutowski (Arch ’05 L/M) and David Hammack (Engr ’05) married April 14, 2018, in Charlottesville. The wedding party included Elisabeth Munder (Col ’02 L/M), Juliana Gutowski (Arch ’12 L/M) and Seanan Maranzano (Col ’04 L/M). The bride is the daughter of Andrew Gutowski (Arch ’75) and Francesca Lupica Gutowski (Arch ’74).  The couple lives in Falls Church, Virginia.

Knetta Jones Adkins (Col ’06 L/M) and Timothy Adkins (Engr ’06 L/M) were married on April 9, 2017, in Charlottesville. They currently live in Birmingham, Alabama.

Betsy Philpott (Col ’03) married Rachel Mendelson on Sept. 30, 2017, in Washington, D.C. Ms. Philpott was also promoted to deputy general counsel for the Washington Nationals Baseball Club in January.
