Class Notes

Bill Jones (Col ’72 L/M) is vice chairman of O’Neal Industries of Birmingham, Ala., and was elected chairman of the Metals Service Center Institute. Mr. Jones has worked at O’Neal Steel in 1976, serving in various positions. In his current position with O’Neal, he oversees the company’s Industrial Metals Group, which includes O’Neal Steel, Leeco Steel, Metalwest, TAD Metals and Timberline Steel. Mr. Jones has also served MSCI’s board of directors since 1993 and has been vice chairman since 2000. He was named Service Center Executive of the Year for 2005.

Andrea Diamond (Col ’08 L/M) moved to New York City after a year working in her company’s Northern California office.

Drew Chartrand (Engr ’08) married Anne Marie Neatrour (Nurs ’08 L/M) on Aug. 22, 2008.

Devra Bardi Brusso (Engr ’08) was married on Sept. 27, 2008 in Orange, Va., to Jay Brusso of McHenry, Ill. She also celebrated her one year anniversary at Southland Industries, Mid Atlantic Division, which is a mechanical contractor company.

Alex Lubin (Col ’08) spent the past year at the “U.Va satellite campus” in Washington D.C./Arlington. He graduated in May from Georgetown University with a master’s of science degree in biomedical science policy. In August, he will start medical school at New York Medical College.

Devin Shields (Engr ’08, ’09) graduated from U.Va. with an master’s of science degree in systems engineering, focusing on diabetes and the artificial pancreas. He is pursuing a career in Rock and Roll full time in the Shields Brothers Band.

Andrew Eckard (Com ’08) works at Citadel Broadcasting in Atlanta for two radio stations.

Brandon Walker (Engr ’08 L/M) is a government consultant in information technology for Booz Allen Hamilton in McLean, Va.

Sage Garner (Col ’08) is the assistant to the President of Steiner Studios, the largest film/television production and support facility on the east coast. In March, she finished writing the script for a documentary entitled “Jay Cutler All Access,” which is now complete and in distribution. 

Kaitlin Bottock (Col ’08, Law ’11) finished her first year at U.Va. Law and will continue for the next two years.

Caryl Huynh (Col ’08) is engaged to Matthew Schroeder (Engr ’08).

Megan Elizabeth McMullen (Engr ’08) is a development engineer for K2M, a spine implant/instrumentation company.

Claire Gutmann (Col ’08) moved back to Ohio after living in Colorado and teaching snowboarding in Aspen for the winter. She is in the Cincinnati area and will be attending University of Cincinnati College of Law beginning this fall.

Robert Yip (Engr ’08) is a senior consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton in Annapolis Junction, Md. He purchased his first condo in April.

Tara Brown (Col ’08) received a master’s of arts degree in education in Williamsburg, Va., and moved to Charlotte, N.C. to teach at Cotswold Elementary School.

Braden Rotberg (Col ’08) lives in New York City and works at Thomson Reuters Markets in I.R. Consulting.

Daniel Ross Newland (Col ’08 L/M) joined the U.S. Army and starts basic training in September and Officer Candidate School in November.

Tiffany Davis (Col ’08, Educ ’08) teaches kindergarten for the International School of Trieste. Next year, she will be moving up to first grade with her students.

Brooke Andrew Brower (Col ’00 L/M) and Katharine Haines Andersen were married May 16, 2009. The couple resides in Washington, D.C., where Mr. Brower is a producer for “Hardball With Chris Matthews” on MSNBC.

Jennifer Casto (Col ’08 L/M) is serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Zambia.

Christopher Sabbatini (Col ’08) works as a photographer, graphic artist and web developer for MaisonSabbatini studio. Two of his images were selected to go on a 6 month, 3 gallery international tour in the Colors of Life International Photo Contest. Mr. Sabbatini’s photographs will be displayed in Capital One Corporate Gallery, Richmond Va., in July and August; Artspace, Richmond, Va., in October; and in Kkien Atelier, Milan, Italy, in November and December.

Carolyn Colley (Nurs ’08) works at the U.Va. Hospital.

Brandon Cline (Engr ’08) is teaching English in Japan.

David A. Lampen (Col ’08) is entering the U.S. Army as an Officer Candidate on July 7. He will be in Ft. Sill, Okla., for basic training until Sept. 18, then in Ft. Benning in Columbus, Ga., until Dec. 4. After that, he will stay in the continental U.S. for at least 6 months, probably either at Ft. Benning or at Ft. Huachuca, Ariz.

Ashley Williams Howard (Col ’08) and Warner Howard (Col ’05, Educ ’05) are expecting a baby boy on July 21, 2009.

Natasha d’Andrade (Col ’08) taught preschool and is now the assistant director of ABC Preschool.(Col ’08) taught preschool and is now the assistant director of ABC Preschool.

Patricia Belote (Col ’08 L/M) is assistant manager of Enterprise Rent a Car in Tyson’s Corner, Va.- Mercedes Benz.

Gabrielle Strickland (Col ’08) is a program manager for RuffaloCODY.

Geraldine Pierre (Col ’08 L/M) is in the second year of a master’s of science in public health degree program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Lauren Brown (Com ’08) lives in New York City and works as a communications planner on the Procter and Gamble account at Carat.

Jamie Jones (Col ’08) will marry Robert Fisher on Aug. 15, 2009. Ms. Jones is program manager of the Juvenile Literacy Center in Raleigh, N.C.

Lindsay Jones Miller (Com ’08) and Chip Miller (Com ’07) were married at a farmhouse estate in Charlottesville and then moved to San Francisco.

Leah Passman (Nurs ’08 L/M) is a registered nurse at a free community health clinic.

Jonathan Segal (Com ’08) has lived in downtown Washington, D.C., for a year. He works as a client service analyst at comScore.

Ali Birouti (Col ’08) works for SEI Investments Company in Philadelphia as an asset management solutions associate and is also pursuing a master’s of science degree in financial engineering part-time at Temple University’s Fox School of Business.

Casey Winzeler (Engr ’08 L/M) works with Booz Allen Hamilton in Arlington, Va., developing enterprise architecture.

Catherine Tobin (Col ’08 L/M) married Matthew Mika (Engr ’08) at the University Chapel on Jan. 3, 2009.

Connie Chang (Col ’08) finished her first year of vet school at WesternU College of Veterinary Medicine in California.

Dreama Lynn Montrief Johnson (Col ’08) married R. Marc Johnson (Educ ’08) on Sept. 20, 2008. Ms. Johnson is the college guide at William Monroe High School in Greene County, Va., and recently bought a home with her husband in the Belmont neighborhood of Charlottesville.

Emily Prescott Hamel (Col ’08) is working on Terrence Malick’s movie, “Tree of Life”, as the visual effects assistant. She also skates for the TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls, a banked-track roller derby league Austin, Texas.

Samantha Bute (Col ’08) began working with Americorps in Philadelphia in July.

John O’Dea (Col ’08) works for CC Pace, a business and IT consulting firm located in Fairfax, Va. He works in the areas of business development and account management for the staffing and recruiting practice.

Ashley Woodard (Col ’08) is an admissions counselor at Longwood University in Farmville, Va.

Nora Kayton (Col ’08) is working toward a Ph.D. in molecular physiology at Vanderbilt, working in a laboratory that studies Type 1 diabetes. She thinks Nashville is a wonderful place to be.

Mary Slosson (Col ’08) worked at the Peace Operations Training Institute for a year and is now backbacking around Central America for a few months while waiting to hear back from the Peace Corps. She loves her life.

Jonathan Robins (Col ’08) is an associate at Stonebridge International.

Anna Levinger (Col ’08 L/M) lives in Oaxaca, Mexico, for 6 months of the year for her position with International Education Programs (IEP), a study, volunteer and intern abroad organization.
