Tyler Gaffney (Col ’08 L/M) works as a paralegal in Washington, D.C.

Jianyi Lee (Col ’08, Grad ’12) is a graduate student in the U.Va. cell biology department.

William Smith (Engr ’08) is a Ph.D. pre-candidate in mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan.

Brian Freeman (Engr ’08 L/M) moved to Louisville, Ky., and started medical school in July.

Michael Okola (Engr ’08 L/M) is finishing his master’s degree in computer science this fall and started working as a software engineer at CORE Business Technologies. He will be living in Providence, R.I. this year.

Keith Hanauer (Com ’08) works for Barclays Capital.

Meghan Pianta (Col ’08 L/M) works in communications at GE Energy Financial Solutions.

Sarah Walls (Engr ’04 L/M) earned her professional engineer licensing in the state of Virginia. Ms. Walls works for Jacobs Technology at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Va., as a mechanical engineer.

Robert Nix (Col ’85 L/M) and Pebbles Glenn, both of Atlanta, were married May 30, 2009, in Murrells Inlet, S.C. Mr. Nix is vice president in the retirement plans practice at Register Financial Associates and Ms. Nix is owner of the residential interior design firm, Glenn Epting Interior Design.

Ellen Henry Silva (Educ ’92) and her husband, David Silva, welcomed their first son, Gabriel Teamir, on June 22, 2009. He was born in Mekele, Ethiopia, on August 3, 2008.

Jacintha Tabalujan (Arch ’05 L/M) earned her LEED accreditation in June. She is a development manager at Clark Real Estate Advisors, based in Bethesda, Md. She is pursuing a master’s of professional studies degree in real estate at Georgetown University. Ms. Tabalujan is engaged to John Herzog and is planning a Spring, 2010 wedding. Ms. Tabalujan also received a gold medal at the Virginia Commonwealth Coventry State Games for Womens Singles Badminton and is eligible to participate in the 2011 National State Games of America held in San Diego, Calif.

Tracy K’Meyer (Col ’85 L/M) is chair of the University of Louisville Department of History. She also published two books: Civil Rights in the Gateway to the South:
Louisville, KY, 1945-1980 and Freedom on the Border: An Oral History of the Civil Rights Movement in Kentucky (co-authored by Catherine Fosl), both by the University Press of Kentucky. Ms. K’Meyer lives in Louisville with her husband and fellow historian, A. Glenn Crothers, and their two children, Colin and Norah Crothers.

Samuel N. Crosby (Col ’73 L/M) received the Chief Justice’s Outstanding Leadership Award for his service to the court system as president of the 16,000 member Alabama State Bar.

Courtney Johnson Deitz (Com ’99 L/M) and Brian Deitz (Com ’99 L/M) welcomed their third child to their family. Carson Malloy was born June 12, 2009.  He joins sister, Campbell, 4; and brother, Cooper, 2. The family resides in Atlanta, where Mr. Deitz works for Reagan Consulting, a small investment banking and consulting firm.

Charlotte Hudgins Zito (Col ’03 L/M) and her husband, Ari Zito, celebrated their son, Isaac Hudgins Zito’s, first birthday on Feb. 6, 2009. Mr. Zito received his master’s degree in English from the Bread Loaf School of English at Middlebury College in August. Both Mr. and Ms. Zito teach English at Norfolk Academy in Norfolk, Va., and Mr. Zito is director of the Breakthrough Collaborative at Norfolk Academy. Ms. Zito ran in the Dismal Swamp Stomp Half Marathon in April and is training to run in the Rock ‘n Roll Half Marathon in September.

Kevin Cunningham (Com ’00 L/M) and his wife, Stacy Fleck Cunningham (Com ’00), are pleased to announce the birth of their first child and daughter, Whitney Ann, born June 5, 2009.

John R. Snoddy IV (Col ’02) is the environmental director of Kyanite Mining Corp. in Dillwyn, Va. His most recent mine reclamation project received the 2009 Virginia Mineral Mining Reclamation Award presented by the Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy and the Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance. Mr. Snoddy’s project, the reclamation of the United States’ first kyanite mine, received both the Best Quarry and Overall Winner categories of the award. These awards recognize companies that have made extraordinary efforts to implement innovative techniques which protect the public and the environment from potential adverse effects of mining. By winning the state award, the project is automatically nominated for the national reclamation award.

Anna Kirby Samaha (Arch ’07 L/M) and Benjamin David Streufert (Col ’07 L/M) were married in Lecanto, Fla., on March 14, 2009. The couple currently resides in McLean, Va.

Omar Faison (Grad ’02) is interim chair of the department of biology at Virginia State University in Petersburg, Va.

Chris Weil (Engr ’98 L/M) and his wife, Jennifer, celebrated the birth of their first child, Katherine Elizabeth, on March 30, 2009. The couple resides in Chicago.

Tess Nance Bradford (Col ’92) and her husband, Brian, welcomed their second daughter, Tanner Nance Bradford, on June 15, 2009. Older sister, Ryan Nance Bradford, is excited about the new addition. The family resides in Alexandria, Va.

Susan Kim (Col ’99) is a corporate lawyer in Washington, D.C. and was selected as one of five individuals for the American Bar Aassociation’s Ambassadors Program for the 2009-2011 class. Ms. Kim is a representative to the Fairfax County board of supervisors and serves as a board member and in-house committee co-chair for APABA-DC. Ms. Kim is married and resides in Reston, Va.

Natasha Fedoseyev (Col ’04) and Edward Miller Collie (Com ’03 L/M) were married May 3, 2009. The couple resides in New York, N.Y. Mr. Collie is pursuing his M.B.A. degree at Columbia University and Ms. Collie works in private wealth management at Merrill Lynch.

Megan Silva Janes (Nurs ’00 A/M) and her husband, Mark, welcomed their second child, Charlotte Ann, on Feb. 3, 2009. She joins sister, Elleri, 2. The family resides in the Reno/Tahoe, Nev., area.

Brian K. Madden (Col ’91 L/M) is vice president, commercial division, at Brock Realty in Arlington, Va., and, in March, he broke the long-standing single transaction production record at the 65-year-old firm, representing the buyer of a commercial property listed and closed in mid-$4MM range. He was named “2009 Agent of the Year” at the firm.

Russ Petrin (Col ’00 L/M) and Carrie Kindred were married May 30, 2009. The couple resides in Highlands Ranch, Colo., where Mr. Petrin is a second vice president-wealth management with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC.

Louis J. Rogers (Law ’84) is the founder and chief executive officer of Rogers Realty Advisors, a real estate fund manager focusing on raising debt and equity for real estate investments, headquartered in Richmond, Va. Mr. Rogers previously served as president of Triple Net Properties, LLC of Santa Ana, Calif., from 2004 to 2007, prior to the reverse merger with Grubb & Ellis. Before that, he was a partner and head of the real estate securities practice group at the Hirschler Fleischer law firm in Richmond, Va.

William C. Thomas (Col ’88 L/M) completed a visiting fellowship as a Fulbright Scholar at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Mr. Thomas taught a course on U.S. national security policy and American strategic culture in the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies’ master’s degree program. After finishing the fellowship, he returned to his duties at the Pentagon, where he is a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force and serves as an international affairs specialist.

Courtney Allison Judd (Col ’02 L/M) and Christopher Ryan Mallon were married at the Williamsburg Inn in Williamsburg, Va., on May 16, 2009. The bridal party included two U.Va. graduates, Tina Libby (Col ’02 L/M) and Tracie Goldthorpe Seward (Col ’03 L/M). The couple honeymooned at Little Dix Bay in Virgin Gorda before returning home to New York City, where Ms. Judd is a pharmaceutical public relations manager and Mr. Mallon is the general manager of a boutique design hotel in Times Square.

Lynda Tang (Col ’02 L/M) received a medical degree on May 30, 2009, from the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Frederick H. Phillips (Col ’71) founded Overlook Associates in 2007 to provide real estate development and consulting services with a focus on preservation and adaptive reuse. The company received an award from PreservationMass, a Massachusetts preservation advocacy organization, for its rehabilitation of the former Davis & Sargent Building in Lowell, Mass., into energy efficient, sustainable modern office space. The 1879 building qualified for LEED certification at the Gold Level.

Susan Dicus Wilinski (Com ’99 L/M) and Steven Wilinski (Col ’99 L/M) welcomed their first child, Ryan Gregory, on April 27, 2009. Major Steven Wilinski is a U.S. Air Force F-16 pilot currently serving in Italy. The family will move to Korea in September.

Caroline Harvey Turner (Col ’04) and Bradley W. Turner (Com ’04) welcomed their first child and son, Ryan Bradley, on May 26, 2009. The family resides in Richmond, Va.

Matthew Sachs (Col ’01 L/M) and his wife Jenny Saroff Sachs (Col ’02 L/M) announce the birth of their son, Samuel Ethan, on April 11, 2009, at the University of Virginia Medical Center. Dr. Matthew Sachs is a third year resident at U.Va. pursuing child and adolescent psychiatry, and Ms. Sachs will be working as a child and family therapist.

Tucker S. Moore (Engr ’09) and Jessica Harvell were married on June 5, 2009, in Richmond, Va.  The couple resides in Columbia, Md. Mr. Moore is a consultant for Northrop Grumman in Chantilly, Va. Ms. Moore will be attending dental school at the University of Maryland in the fall. Cheryl Reever Moore (Com ’85 A/M) is mother of the groom.

Gillian Rickmeier Schmitz (Col ’98 L/M) and her husband, Matt, welcomed their first baby, Kaylie Marie, on September 11, 2008. They moved this summer to Alexandria, Va., where Dr. Schmitz is on faculty and working clinically in the emergency department at Georgetown University and Washington Hospital Center.

Allison Smith Knab (Col ’97) and her husband, Brian R. Knab (Col ’97), welcomed their second daughter, Evelyn Louise, on Dec. 17, 2008. She joins sister, Clara Annabelle, 3. The Knab girls are the nieces of Christine Smith Hogan (Engr ’91 L/M), Stacy Smith Kesten (Col ’93) and Daniel Kesten (Col ’93 L/M).

Kemper Steele (Col ’03, Educ ’06 L/M) and Julie Inskeep Steele (Col ’05, Educ ’05 L/M) welcomed their first child, Cameron Andrew, on May 16, 2009, in Richmond, Va.

Amy Weddington Almquist (Engr ’98 L/M) and David Almquist (Engr ’99) welcomed their first son, Ryan Matthew, on Jan. 22, 2009. Ryan joins sister, Kate, 2. The family lives in Richmond, Va.

Nira Marsh Guare (Col ’89 L/M) and Tim Guare (Col ’88 L/M) welcomed daughter, Harper Ellen, on Jan. 27, 2009. Harper joins big sisters Madison, 13, Schuyler, 11, and Bailey, 7. The Guares reside in Richmond, Va.

Lisa Boczany Doran (Col ’99 L/M) and her husband, Noel, welcomed the birth of their second daughter, Caroline Lucia, on Jan. 12, 2009. Caroline joins sister, Avery, 3. Both Ms. and Mr. Doran are attorneys practicing in Los Angeles.

Catherine R. Lewis (Col ’02 L/M) was the first MD/PhD graduate of the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta in May. She conducted research in MSM’s Cancer Biology Program in the department of obstetrics and gynecology, with a focus on the ongoing research of the structural and functional analysis of BRCA1 proteins. Dr. Lewis began her general surgery residency program in July at MSM. She is a native of Richmond, Va.
