Tyler Hodges (Col ’96 CM)
Tyler J. Hodges (Col ’96 L/M) is dean of students at Laguna Blanca School in Santa Barbara, Calif., where he oversees discipline and student life for the Upper School. He previously worked for six years as a history instructor and academic dean at Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Va. Mr. Hodges and his wife, Tristan, have two daughters: Madalene, 3; and Hannah, 9 months.
Iris Hwa (Com ’01)
Iris Hwa (Com ’01) and her husband, Andrew Tsao, celebrated the birth of their first child, Chloe Ann Tsao, on April 27, 2009. The family resides in New York City.
Robert Clark (Col ’81)
Robert F. Clark (Col ’81) and Lauren Rose Clark (Nurs ’82) announce the birth of their first grandchild, Kathryn “Kate” Donaghey Clapper. Kate and her parents, who are Loyola University grads, reside in New Orleans. Kate’s aunt Kathryn is a member of Auburn University’s Class of 2009 and is an Air Force nurse.
Brian Kush (Com ’94 CM)
Brian Kush (Com ’94 L/M) and Mary Beth Young Kush (Col ’97 L/M) celebrate their 5 year wedding anniversary on Oct. 30, 2009. Mr. Kush is a certified public accountant, certified information systems auditor and certified information technology professional and serves as president and coach at Moxie Partners, where he works with accountants, entrepreneurs and executives to change their life through leadership coaching. He has written a book, Auditing Leadership, published in July by Wiley, which helps auditors take their professional and leadership skills to the next level.

Denise Tucker (Grad ’93)
Denise Tucker (Grad ’93) published her first mystery novel, Keeping House: A Madame President Mystery. The House Mysteries is a series of seven mysteries, each one taking place in a famous house, villa or castle around the world. Keeping House is Book 1 in the series, which features the White House and the rise of America’s first female president. The book also features scenes that take place at the Rotunda and at Monticello. Thomas Jefferson makes a cameo appearance in the first chapter. Keeping House is published by Bluewater Press.

Elizabeth Bower (Nurs ’06) has worked as a registered nurse at the Medical College of Virginia’s Virginia Treatment Center for Children since February.
Sara Capistrant (Col ’96 CM)

Sara Lenser Capistrant (Col ’96 L/M) and her husband, Chris, welcomed their second child, Lucas Owen, on June 10, 2008. Lucas joins his brother, Colin, 2. The family resides in Ashburn, Va.

Jonathan Snare (Col ’83 CM)
Jonathan L. Snare (Col ’83 L/M) joined the Washington, D.C., office of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP as a partner in the labor and employment section. Mr. Snare previously served from 2003 to 2009 in the U.S. Department of Labor in several positions including deputy assistant secretary and acting assistant secretary with the occupational safety and health administration, and deputy solicitor of labor and acting solicitor of labor with the solicitor’s office.
Heather Roberts (Nurs ’95 CM)
Heather Grehawick Roberts (Nurs ’95 L/M) and her husband, Dave, welcomed their third child and son, Henry Christopher, born March 13, 2009. He joins sister, Taylor, 5; and brother, Nicholas, 2. The family resides in Raleigh, N.C., where Ms. Roberts works per diem on the labor and delivery unit at UNC Hospital.

C. Setliff (Col ’83 CM)
C. Stephen Setliff (Col ’83 L/M) was included in the 2009 Virginia Super Lawyers publication in the field of transportation law. He also was included in Best Lawyers in America for 2008 and 2009. Mr. Setliff serves on the executive committee of the National Association of Railroad Trial Lawyers. His firm, Setliff & Holland, specializes in transportation law and has offices in Richmond, Va., and Baltimore.

Lynn Metzger Coulter (Col ’98 L/M) and her husband, Mark, welcomed their first child, Evan Kent, on Feb. 10, 2009. The family resides in Miami.

Robert Collins (Col ’85)

Robert G. Collins (Col ’85 A/M) published a book, Led by Love: Giving Your Child a Godly Character, which discusses the moral training of children between the ages of 2 and 10. Dr. Collins practiced pediatrics in Roanoke, Va., from 1992 to 2005, when he became disabled. He and his wife of 18 years, Amy, spend much of their time home schooling their three daughters.

Kel-Ann Eyler (Com ’77 CM)
Kel-Ann Sheldon Eyler (Com ’77 L/M) received the 2009 Outstanding Accounting Educator Award by the Educational Foundation of the Georgia Society of CPAs. The lifetime achievement award was announced at the Foundation’s annual meeting in Chattanooga, Tenn., on May 15, 2009. Ms. Eyler is associate professor of accounting and interim chair of the business and economics department of Wesleyan College in Macon, Ga.
Jami Taylor (Col ’01 CM)
Jami Haddow Taylor (Col ’01 L/M) and her husband, Jonathan, announce the birth of their daughter, Caroline Grace, on April 3, 2009, in Richmond, Va. Caroline joins brother, Jack Rockwell Taylor, 3, and Lauren Alexis Taylor, 1. Ms. Taylor also released Global Pharmacovigilance Laws & Regulations: The Essential Reference, a book published by the Food and Drug Law Institute on April 20, 2009. Ms. Taylor served as a contributing editor along with Stephen Klincewicz, Yuung Yuung Yap, and Adrian Thomas, all internationally renowned experts in the pharmacovigilance field.
Meg Kinnear (Law ’82)
Meg Kinnear (Law ’82) was elected as the secretary-general of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes, an arm of the World Bank in Washington, D.C., in February. She will be leaving her job as director general of Canada’s Trade Law Bureau and moving to Washington, D.C., with her son, Chris, 20; and her daughter Kelly, 15.
Garrett Buxton (Col ’08)

Garrett Edward Buxton (Col ’08) and A. Carly Brown (Col ’07 L/M) were married on June 27, 2009, in Richmond, Va. The couple resides in Chicago, where they are both pursuing graduate degrees at the University of Chicago. Mr. Buxton will complete a master’s degree in international relations and Ms. Buxton will complete her doctorate in East Asian languages and civilizations.

John Fleming (Col ’86 CM)
John Fleming (Col ’86 L/M) lives in Tampa, Fla., with his wife and two children and teaches creative writing at the University of South Florida. He has a new book coming out, Fearsome Creatures of Florida, with Pocol Press.
Laetitia Rosales (Col ’84)
Laetitia Frye Rosales (Col ’84) is business manager of The Ansel Adams Publishing Rights Trust, established by Ansel Adams to ensure the continuity and quality of his legacy, both artistic and environmental. She lives in Mill Valley, Calif., with her husband and two children.

Chris T. Schools (Com ’89 L/M) is chief financial officer of Intelliject, a developmental stage pharmaceutical and medical device company. Chris lives in Richmond, Va., with his wife, Susan, and their 2 daughters.

Anne Stone (Col ’89 L/M) and her husband, Eric Hiser, welcomed their first child, Eleanor Suzanne Hiser, on Dec. 26, 2008. The family resides in Phoenix.

Noel Cary (Grad ’73)
Noel D. Cary (Grad ’73) has been a member of the Holy Cross faculty since 1989 and is now a full professor in the history department. Mr. Cary directed the College Honors Program from 2001 to 2003. Among his many scholarly fellowships have been grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities in 1995 and the Fulbright German Studies program in 2000. He was the recipient of the College’s Distinguished Teaching Award in 2008. Mr. Cary’s most recent research is on issues of memory at the 1972 Munich Olympics, where Israeli athletes were held hostage by Palestinians and later killed.
Katerina Ossenova (Col ’03 CM)

Katerina Ossenova (Col ’03 L/M) and Aman Singh (Com ’03 L/M) were married on May 23, 2009. The couple resides in Fairfax, Va., where Ms. Ossenova is an attorney with the Department of Commerce and Mr. Singh is an audit manager with Freddie Mac.

Laurie Naccara Lanier (Col ’01) and her husband, Brent Lanier, are thrilled to announce the birth of their son, Ethan John, born March 27, 2009. The family lives in Lexington, Mass.
Elisabeth Murkison (Col ’97)
Elisabeth Piriou Murkison (Col ’97) and her husband, James, welcomed their second daughter, Evelyn Claire, on Feb. 19, 2009. “Evie” joins 2-year-old sister, Lillian, and is the granddaughter of Jean-Pierre Piriou (Grad ’73) and the niece of Michele Piriou Nichols (Col ’92 L/M) and Marie-Christine Piriou Reames (Col ’94 L/M). The family resides in Seattle, Wash.
John Blackburn (Col ’91, Grad ’96)

John Blackburn Jr. (Col ’91, Grad ’96) and Bob Gatewood (Engr ’91) ran the Boston Marathon on April 20, 2009. They raised more than $24,000 for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of Jack Blackburn.

Stephen Ziegler (Engr ’97) and Katharine Miller Ziegler (Col ’99 L/M) welcomed their first child, Owen Condray, on Nov. 20, 2008. The family resides in Clifton, Va.

Julie Meyer Grogan (Com ’95) and Bruce Grogan are proud to announce the birth of their little girl, Haley Kaitlin, on March 25, 2009, in Clarence Center, N.Y.

Richard McDorman (Col ’94 CM)
Richard E. McDorman (Col ’94 L/M) published his second book, Managing Successful Meetings. The book was published by inlingua International (Bern, Switzerland) in February. The work is an English as a Second Language textbook, trainer resource manual and audio CD designed for advanced ESL students studying at inlingua’s 300 language training centers throughout the world. His first book, Labial Instability in Sound Change, an adaptation of his University of Chicago master’s thesis, was published in June, 1999.

John Noyes (Law ’77)
John E. Noyes (Law ’77) is the Roger J. Traynor Professor of Law at California Western School of Law. His scholarship focuses on the law of the sea and examines international law limits on the use of force, the history of international law, the intersection of religion and international law and international dispute settlement. With 50 professional publications to his credit, Mr. Noyes’ works include books, articles, book chapters and essays. He co-authored The United Nations at 50: Proposals for Improving Its Effectiveness, Cases and Commentary on International Law, Cases and Materials on the Law of the Sea and International Law Stories. Mr. Noyes is also president of the American Branch of the International Law Association. He was named “Faculty Member of the Year” at California Western and received the Outstanding Service Award from the ABA Section of International Law. While at U.Va., Mr. Noyes served as executive editor of the Virginia Journal of International Law.
Alison McKee (Col ’02)
Alison Cunnane McKee (Col ’02) and Thomas McKee Jr. (Col ’01 L/M) are proud to announce the birth of their first child, Thomas John McKee III, born on March 31, 2009, in Fairfax, Va.

Jill Tietjen (Engr ’76 CM)
Jill Tietjen (Engr ’76 L/M) was re-elected to the Georgia Transmission Corporation board of directors and will serve a three-year term. She has served as an outside director on the GTC board since 1997. GTC is a not-for-profit cooperative owned by 39 Electric Membership Corporations in Georgia. Ms. Tietjen is president and chief executive officer of Technically Speaking, a trustee of the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Virginia and chairs the board of advisors of the Colorado Coalition on Gender and Information Technology. She is featured in the book, Changing Our World – True Stories of Women Engineers, and co-authored the best-selling book, Her Story: A Timeline of the Women Who Changed America.
Sharon Crane (Grad ’84)
Sharon Crane (Grad ’84 A/M) is a member of the intellectual property law firm, Rothwell, Figg, Ernst & Manbeck, P.C. in Washington, D.C. Ms. Crane is a member of FICPI (Fédération Internationale des Conseils en Propriété Industrielle), a worldwide organization of intellectual property attorneys in private practice. She was active in planning FICPI’s World Congress in June in Washington, D.C., which focused on the continuing relevance of IP rights in a global economy.

Wayne Moore (Col ’80, Law ’83)
Wayne Moore (Col ’80, Law ’83) is associate professor of political science in the College of Arts and Human Sciences at Virginia Tech and received the 2009 Alumni Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Academic Advising from the Virginia Tech Alumni Association. Mr. Moore has served as a pre-law advisor for the Department of Political Science since joining the Virginia Tech faculty in 1992 and has been the university’s sole pre-law advisor since 2003. He also teaches constitutional law.

Sara Kajder (Educ ’05)
Sara Kajder (Educ ’05) is assistant professor of English in the School of Education in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences at Virginia Tech. She received the 2009 X Caliber Award for excellence from the Virginia Tech Center for Innovation in Learning. The award recognizes faculty members or teams of faculty and staff who integrate technology in teaching and learning. A member of the Virginia Tech community since 2007, Ms. Kajder utilizes several Web 2.0 technologies to enable students to engage with authentic audiences outside of the classroom context.
Bryan Murtagh (Col ’82 CM)
Bryan Murtagh (Col ’82 L/M) is a managing director at UBS AG in Stamford, Conn., and is currently overseeing UBS’s restructuring efforts with various financially-troubled institutions. He is also active in the credit derivatives markets and recently testified before the U.S. House Agriculture Committee on the “Role of Credit Derivatives in the U.S. Economy.” Mr. Murtagh lives in Rye, N.Y., with his wife, Peggy O’Brien, and their daughters, Catherine “Katie” and Mary. Katie will be attending the College of Arts & Sciences as a first year student this Fall.

Jeff Kreisler (Law ’98)
Jeff Kreisler (Law ’98) published his first book, Get Rich Cheating, in June. He is also a comedian and has received comedy awards, was in international comedy festivals and has performed on TV.
Richard Washer (Col ’78)
Richard Washer (Col ’78) wrote a play, Quartet, that was performed at the Hamner Theater in Nelson County, Va. Quartet was developed at the first Earl Hamner Playwrights Conference at the Hamner Theater in 2006. Last August, Quartet was included in the Kennedy Center’s 7th annual Page-to-Stage annual showcase for new plays. Mr. Washer lives in the Washington, D.C. area, where he is active in the theater scene and a founding member of the Charter Theatre. His plays have been produced in various venues in the D.C. area over the last twenty years, including New Works Theatre, Charter Theatre and the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts. He currently offers creative playwriting workshops at The Writer’s Center in Bethesda, Md.
James Moore (Engr ’83)

James Moore (Engr ’83). Jim’s budding career as a motorcycle roadracer suffered a severe setback last year. He lost the front end in a sharp right hand turn and tumbled off the racetrack in a shower of dirt, broken plastic and colorful language. Luckily, Jim was unhurt and the bike suffered largely cosmetic damage. Mrs. Moore was not amused. Mr. Moore recently retired after a 22-year career as an AV-8B Harrier pilot in the U.S. Marine Corps. He now spends his time caring for his two young daughters and occasionally sneaks out to race his motorcycle (poorly).
Joel Rubin (Col ’75 CM)

Joel Rubin (Col ’75 L/M) was inducted into the Virginia Communications Hall of Fame on April 2 in Richmond, Va. The Hall of Fame is a program of the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Mass Communications that recognizes individuals, principally Virginians, who have made significant contributions in the field of communications. Mr. Rubin worked for WNOR Radio in Norfolk, Va., and as political and features reporter for WAVY TV (NBC) in Hampton Roads for 15 years before starting his own public relations firm, Rubin Communications Group, which is headquartered in Virginia Beach. From 1992-2008, in a part-time role, he was executive producer and host of “On the Record with Joel Rubin”, a weekly news interview program on WVEC TV (ABC) in Hampton Roads. Mr. Rubin’s son, Danny Rubin (Col ’06 L/M), is a TV news reporter for WTKR TV (CBS) in Hampton Roads. His daughter is Molly Rubin (Col ’09).

Matthew Hickey (Engr ’00)
Matthew S. Hickey (Engr ’00) is a structural engineer in the Charlotte, N.C., office of Clark Nexsen, an architectural, engineering, interior design, planning and landscape architecture firm. Mr. Hickey is a licensed professional engineer in North Carolina and Virginia.
Ilan Kaufer (Col ’03 CM)
Ilan Kaufer (Col ’03 L/M) received a Juris Doctor and a master’s degree in Forest Resources and Conservation from the University of Florida in December. He works as a contract attorney with Florida Power and Light in their Regulatory Group. Kevin Pigott (Law ’98)
Kevin Pigott (Law ’98) joined the law firm of Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, PLLC. Mr. Pigott practices in the field of commercial real estate transactions with special emphasis on acquisition, sale and development of commercial real estate; representation of commercial real estate developers and homebuilders in partnerships and development ventures; and acquisition, construction and permanent mortgage financing through both portfolio loans and securitized conduit loans. He also has experience in the field of structured credit products, securitizations and mortgage-backed securities.

Carol Brani (Col ’83)
Carol Brani (Col ’83) is a member with the law firm of Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, PLLC. Ms. Brani advises a wide range of clients in connection with online and offline advertising and promotions, information technology, franchising and biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry licensing transactions. She assists clients in a variety of industries with agency of record, co-branding and sponsorship, promotional, cause marketing, trademark and technology licensing, joint development, clinical research, manufacturing, supply, commercialization, software licensing, consulting and other commercial agreements. Ms. Brani also advises clients in all aspects of privacy laws applicable to e-commerce and e-communications.
Louis Sherman (Law ’71 CM)
Louis A. Sherman (Law ’71 L/M) was sworn in as the 55th judge of the Circuit Court of the City of Norfolk, Va., on Oct. 31, 2008. Judge Sherman previously served as a judge of the Norfolk General District Court for more than 13 years. Judge Sherman and his wife, Carol, have two sons, Eric M. Sherman (Col ’98, Med ’02) and Scott M. Sherman (Com ’01 L/M).
