“Birth” Class Notes

Christopher Winter (Col ’07 CM) and Megan Van Syckle Winter (Com ’09 CM) welcomed a son, Brooks Christopher, on August 18, 2022. The family, including proud sister Caroline, lives in Charlottesville.

Casey Chalk (Col ’07, Educ ’07) and his wife, Claire, welcomed a son, Daniel Edmund, on Aug. 3, 2020. He joins siblings Annemarie, 9; Thomas, 7; Elizabeth, 5, and Lawrence, 2. 

Jordan Brown (Com ’04) and husband Greg welcomed their first daughter, Easton Campbell Brown, on July 26th, 2022. Easton is well-loved by brothers Bruce (10) and Bode (2). The family lives in Newport Beach, California. 

Amy Shroyer Lightbourn (Col ’12 CM) and James Lightbourn (Col ’12 CM) welcomed their daughter, Linnea, on July 5th, 2022. She joins big brother Landon and dog Bernie at home in East Norwalk, Connecticut.

Marc Heisel (Engr ’07) and Brianne (King) Heisel (Engr ’13 CM) welcomed a son, Aiden, in May 2021. The family lives in Charlottesville where Marc is an engineering and quality manager, and Brianne is a senior program manager.

Shannon (Casey) Donohue (Arch ’12 CM) and husband Kevin Donohue welcomed their first child, Madeline Grace, on Mar. 15, 2022. The couple resides in Alexandria, Virginia, where Shannon works in fundraising at George Mason University and Kevin is in cybersecurity with Amazon Web Services. They are excited to show their daughter around Charlottesville and the UVA campus this fall.

Sharon Kressel (Col ’05, Med ’12 CM) and her husband Jason welcomed their daughter Nora Irene in October 2021. Nora joins her older brothers, Aaron and Max. The family resides in Bethesda, Maryland.

Kevin M. Passerini (Col ’02 CM) and his wife Megan welcomed a son, Tate Millar, on Oct. 21, 2021. Tate joins big sisters Reese Mary and Maeve Alice and big brother Grant Michael. The family lives in Wayne, Pennsylvania, where Kevin is a partner with Blank Rome and Megan is an Executive Director at Health Union.

Robin Short Verstraete (Col ’05 CM) and her husband, Aaron, welcomed their second child, Holden Robert, on Feb. 1, 2022. He joins big brother Graham, age 3. The family lives in New Albany, Ohio, where Ms. Verstraete is a Vice President of Merchandising for Bath and Body Works and Mr. Verstraete is the head of strategy and partnerships for tech start-up UnitQ.

Bridget Mahoney (Col ’05 CM) and her husband, J.P. Nogues, have welcomed their first child, Ollivier ‘Ollie’ Daniel Nogues, on October 8, 2021. The family resides in Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands where Ms. Mahoney is a psycho-therapist for the Department of Veteran Affairs and Mr. Nogues is a public defender.

Andrew Levine (Engr ’13 CM) and Mary Ortiz Levine (Col ’11 CM) welcomed a daughter, Abigail Mattea Levine, on May 3, 2021 in Falls Church, Virginia.

Monica N. Melmer (Col ’11, Med ’17 CM) and Patrick D. Melmer (Col ’12, Med ’17 CM) welcomed their second child, Madison Grace, on Oct. 13, 2021. Madison joins big sister Kennedy Caroline and can already cheer “Wahoowa!” After completing residencies and starting their careers in South Carolina, the Melmers are also excited to announce they will be returning home to Virginia. The family will reside in Richmond where Patrick is an incoming trauma/critical care surgery fellow at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Dr. Rebecca Clemo (Eng ’13, Res ’21 CM) and Dr. Merrick Kozak (Col ’12, Res ’21 CM) welcomed their first son, Rhys Philip James Kozak on March 3, 2021. The family lives in Charlottesville where Rebecca is a hospitalist and Merrick is a dermatologist. Rhys is the grandson of Dr. Henry Clemo (Col ’81, Med ’86, Med ’87 CM) and Dr. Frances Lynne Clemo (Med ’85), and nephew of Annie Clemo (Col ’17 CM), Cy Clemo (Eng ’14 CM), Hannah Meredith (Eng ’12 CM), Kate Meredith (Educ ’15 CM), Sam Meredith (Engr ’15 CM), Richard Clemo (Col ’75), and George Clemo (Col ’77, Grad ’79 CM).

Susan Shapiro (Col ’10 CM) and husband Zachary Shapiro (Engr ’09 CM) welcomed a son, Everett Morton, on July 21, 2021. His mom, dad, grandma Kim Ratliff (Col ’74), and aunt Anne Bowman (Col ’02 CM) are eager to share their love for UVA and Charlottesville with this sweet little guy. 

Katherine Sheehan Sears (Col ’05 CM), Robert Sears (Col ’05), and big brother, Henry, welcomed baby Benjamin Robert on May 25, 2021. Ben is the grandson of Mary Gardes Sears (Col ’82 CM), the great-grandson of Col. George Gardes (Engr ’60), and the nephew of Annie Sheehan (Col ’13). The family lives in Leesburg, Virginia.

Caroline Higgins Languasco (Engr ’11) and Jon Languasco (Engr ’15) welcomed a future UVA engineer, Juliana Rose, on March 9, 2021.

Marc Olsen (Com ’01 CM) and his wife, Emily, are thrilled to announce the birth of their third child, Vivienne Gray, on Jan. 2, 2021. (Not a 2020 baby!) Marc is president of one of the largest COVID-19 testing networks in the Southeast and manages a multitude of testing and vaccine medical clinics in Georgia. His wife is an epidemiologist at the CDC, studying on COVID-19. The family happily resides in Atlanta.

David Theisz (Engr ’04) and Erika Chiang (Col ’04 CM) welcomed their second child, Haley Shing-Yu, on May 1, 2021. Haley joins big brother Henry, and is the granddaughter of Gordon Frederick Theisz Jr. (Engr ’59, ’66) and the niece of Gordon W. Theisz (Med ’98). The family lives in Arlington, Virginia.

Caitlan Smith Wilber (Col ’07 CM) and Michael Wilber (Col ’09) welcomed a son, Harrison Elias, on July 6, 2020. Harrison joins doting older sister Arden Adela. The family lives in Rochester, New York, where Michael is a fellow in cardiovascular disease at the University of Rochester.

Robert Edwards Griffin (Col ’02 CM) and his wife, Claire, welcomed a daughter, Hazel Chislett, on Mar. 16, 2021. Hazel joins her older brothers, Gordon Charles and Thomas Murphy, and is granddaughter of Gordon Dix Griffin Jr. (Arch ’72 CM). The family lives in Huntsville, Alabama.

Christy Williams Coombs (Col ’05 CM) and her husband, Robert, welcomed their daughter, Clara Eleanor, on Jan. 3, 2021. Clara is the niece of Hillery Williams (Col ’08 CM), granddaughter of Charlie Williams (Col ’74) and great-granddaughter of Dick Williams (Col ’44). The family is eager to bring her to Grounds soon to see her family’s beloved alma mater!

Steve Odabashian (Col ’91) and his wife, Maggie, welcomed their fourth son on Nov. 13, 2020. Given the date, Friday the 13th, they wisely rejected the idea of naming him Jason and instead opted for Kevork Simon. Steve and his wife live in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, with older sons Arthur, 7, Shant, 5, and Raffi, 2. Steve is a renowned test prep tutor who runs Main Line Test Prep and Tutoring.  

Catherine Donnellan Sanders (Col ’06 CM) and her husband, Kevin Sanders, welcomed their second child, Genevieve Rosemary, on Nov. 16, 2020. Genevieve joins big brother George. The family resides in Memphis, TN, where Dr. Sanders is a pediatric pulmonologist.

James Dean Erickson (Col ’08) and Jenna Brick Erickson (Nurs ’10) welcomed their sixth child, Jonathan Thaddeus, on July 8, 2020. They live on campus at Woodberry Forest School where James serves as chair of the visual arts department and coaches varsity wrestling and track. 

Casey Stein Rooney (Col ’10) and Dan Rooney welcomed their daughter, Leigh Rooney, in February 2020. Her Hebrew name is Leah Esther Bat-Chaia (לאה אסתר בת חיה). She is named in memory of three amazing family members who are missed but never forgotten. 

Charlie Cameron (Engr ’11 CM) and Greta Slotness Cameron (Engr ’12 CM) welcomed their second child, Logan Charles, on June 16, 2020. Logan joins big sister Riley, 3. The family lives in Niceville, Florida, where both Mr. and Ms. Cameron are active duty Air Force officers and real estate investors.

Albert Wei Hsu (Engr ’00 CM) and his wife, Jeanie Lin, welcomed their first child, JuanFer “Junior” Hsu, on July 2, 2020. The family lives in Taipei, Taiwan, where Albert is employed by Hewlett Packard Enterprise.

Anne Colmery Cicero (Col ’03 L/M) and David Cicero welcomed daughter Madeline Jane “MJ” on May 22, 2020. MJ joins big sisters Lucia, 10, and Ella, 8. The family recently relocated to North Texas after seven years on the island of O’ahu. Emelie Duke Colmery (Col ’12, Educ ’13) is auntie.

William Barratt (Col ’07) and his wife, Susanna, welcomed a daughter, Virginia Jones, on March 20, 2020. Virginia joins older sister, Constance, born in 2016. The family lives in northern Virginia, where William works as a compliance officer at EJF Capital and serves on the vestry of The Falls Church Anglican.

Nerissa Neal Rouzer (Col ’06 L/M) and Garett Michael Rouzer (Arch ’05 L/M) welcomed their first child, Ethan Henry, on Feb. 27, 2020. The family lives in Charlottesville.

Jordan Elizabeth Wenger Brown (Com ’04) and husband, Greg Brown, welcomed their second child, Bode Callan Brown, on Jan. 4, 2020. Bode joins big brother Bruce Gregory, 7. The family resides in Newport Beach, California.

Thomas Lambeth Walls Jr. (Engr ’03) and Sarah Jane Amelon Walls (Engr ’04) welcomed their third child, Tyson Richard, on April 16, 2020.

Kristin Coffield Edwards (Col ’07) and husband, Justin, welcomed their first child, Madison Ann, on Feb. 11, 2020.  The family lives in Richmond, Virginia, where they practice general and pediatric dentistry.

David G. Drewry III (Engr ’12) and Julia McGowan Drewry (Col ’13) welcomed their first child, David “Quinn”, on Feb. 4, 2020. The Drewry family lives in Baltimore.
