Roger Bertholf (Grad ’81, Grad ’85)

Roger L. Bertholf (Grad ’81, ’85) is professor of pathology in the University of Florida College of Medicine and director of clinical chemistry, toxicology and point of care testing at the University of Florida Health Science Center in Jacksonville. He is a past president of the Association of Clinical Scientists and received that group’s awards for Clinical Scientist of the Year in 2003 and Diploma of Honor in 2005. Mr.  Bertholf is a diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry, with certificates in clinical chemistry and toxicological chemistry. In 2007, Mr.  Bertholf was appointed by Florida Gov. Charlie Crist to the Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel, which he now chairs.

F. Wimbush (Law ’80 CM)

F. Blair Wimbush (Law ’80 L/M) is chairman of the board of directors of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, where he has served on the board executive committee since 2005 and chaired the development committee since 2006. Mr. Wimbush is vice president, real estate and corporate sustainability officer for Norfolk Southern and serves on the University of Virginia School of Law’s Alumni Council and Business Advisory Council.

Nancy G. Parr (Col ’80 L/M) is commonwealth’s attorney for the City of Chesapeake, Va. The women’s division of the Chesapeake Chamber of Commerce named her its 2008 Woman of the Year.

Amy Breitenbach Pollok (Col ’79) and Brian A.  Pollok (Col ’79) reside in Carlsbad, Calif., after living for the past four years in Madison, Wis. Mr. Pollok is chief scientific officer and head of global research and development for Life Technologies, a Fortune 600 company formed by the merger of Applied Biosystems and Invitrogen Corp. Ms. Pollok serves as a reference librarian for the Carlsbad city and San Diego county library systems. Their sons, Christopher and Benjamin, are students at Gnomon School of Visual Arts and Colgate University, respectively.

Joseph Ritchie (Engr ’78 CM)

Joseph C. Ritchie Jr. (Engr ’78 L/M) was appointed to the TowneBank Peninsula board of directors. Mr. Ritchie is president of Ritchie-Curbow Construction Co., and serves on the board of the Newport News YMCA. He previously worked at NASA Langley Research Center and was a naval aviator. He and his wife, Jodi Lutz Ritchie (Educ ’77, ’79), live in Newport News, Va.

Jonathan Scharfen (Col ’78 CM)

Jonathan Scharfen (Col ’78 L/M) is vice president of international operations for Northrop Grumman’s technical services sector. In this position, he has executive responsibility for all international activities involved with identification, qualification and capture of key market opportunities. He previously served in a senior leadership position within the Department of Homeland Security, where he was directly responsible for managing an extensive and sophisticated government operation at state, national and international levels. He also served on the National Security Council staff for three presidents. He is a member of the State Bar of California.

Scott Milburn (Col ’77 L/M) is chief operating officer and general counsel for the software company QL2 Software. He oversees operations in the company’s Seattle headquarters, as well as in Atlanta, London and Delhi. Mr. Milburn lives in Seattle with his wife, Melissa; and their 8-year-old son.

Amy Ginensky (Law ’77)

Amy Ginensky (Law ’77), a partner with the law firm of Pepper Hamilton, chair of its commercial litigation practice group and leader of its media and communications practice, was inducted as a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Ms. Ginensky practices in Pepper Hamilton’s Philadelphia office and, in addition to handling class action and commercial litigation matters, has an active media and communications practice that focuses on First Amendment, defamation and other media-related areas.  Outside of the firm, Ms. Ginensky is president of the Philadelphia Bar Foundation and co-chaired the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Law Firm Pro Bono Committee for many years.

H. Duden (Col ’77 CM)

H. Richard “Dick” Duden III (Col ’77 L/M) was appointed by Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley in August to sit as an associate judge for the District Court of Maryland for Anne Arundel County. The District Court, Maryland’s first-tier trial court, dockets traffic, criminal,  landlord-tenant matters, civil litigation, domestic violence petitions and other cases. Mr. Duden has practiced law for 23 years, most recently with the firm of Hyatt & Weber in Annapolis as a senior litigator.

Trent Dickey (Col ’77 CM)

Trent Dickey (Col ’77 L/M) and Janine Plauka Dickey (Col ’79 L/M) both joined the newly reconstituted UVaClub of Northern New Jersey and serve on its board. Ms. Dickey is co-vice president and Mr.  Dickey coordinates activities with the Princeton and New York clubs. Mr. Dickey was also elected to the advisory board of World Impact Newark, a Christian mission organization helping the poor in America’s inner cities, particularly in Newark, N.J. Ms. Dickey is an attorney with her own firm in New Jersey, and Mr. Dickey is a litigation partner with the law firm of Sills Cummis &  Gross in its New York City and New Jersey offices.

G. Mickley (Grad ’72, Grad ’78)

G. Andrew Mickley Jr. (Grad ’72, ’78) is professor of neuroscience at Baldwin-Wallace College and was named 2008 Ohio Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. The program salutes outstanding undergraduate instructors who excel in teaching and positively influence the lives and careers of students. Mr. Mickley started in 1993 at Baldwin-Wallace College, where he established the neuroscience program. He has received support from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. He and his students currently conduct research concerning the neural substrate of learning, extinction and spontaneous recovery of defensive reactions to fear. Mr. Mickley was recognized as the 2007 Educator of the Year by the Faculty for Undergraduate Neuroscience. Through that organization, he led the development of Nu Rho Psi, the national honor society in neuroscience, for which he is the executive director. He also has twice been elected by his peers as a national councilor on the Council on Undergraduate Research.

John Lumpkin (Col ’71 CM)

John Lumpkin (Col ’71 L/M) will become director of the Schieffer School of Journalism at Texas Christian University in June. The school is named for Bob Schieffer, CBS correspondent and moderator of “Face The Nation.”  Mr.  Lumpkin is a vice president and former bureau chief of the Associated Press,  responsible for newspaper markets in the U.S. and Latin America and for AP revenue from newspaper companies in the hemisphere as well as the U.S. domestic bureau chief system. He has held company positions in strategic planning and has been involved in AP’s shift to multimedia news distribution. He previously worked with the Richmond Times-Dispatch and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram before joining AP. Mr. Lumpkin has received many professional awards and is a member of the Inter-American Press Association and a former director of the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas. He co-wrote West Texas: A Portrait of Its People and Their Raw and Wondrous Land.

Doug Everhart (Col ’68 CM)

Doug Everhart (Col ’68 L/M) is president of Greenpoint Metals, a steel service center in the Cincinnati/Dayton area. Active in the Association of Steel Distributors, Mr. Everhart previously served the organization as its president. He resides in Eaton, Ohio, with Cheryl, his wife of 40 years. While at U.Va., Mr. Everhart was active in Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

Donald Norris (Grad ’68, Grad ’71)

Donald F. Norris (Grad ’68, ’71), a professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, is chair of its Department of Public Policy and director of the Maryland Institute for Policy Analysis and Research.  Mr. Norris is a specialist in public management; urban politics; and the application, uses and impacts of information technology, including e-government, in public organizations. He has authored, edited or co-edited seven books, contributed chapters to 22 others, published 27 articles and four book reviews in journals in the fields of public administration and urban affairs, authored and co-authored more than 60 research reports and monographs and over 50 scholarly papers. He has consulted with local and state governments for more than 30 years in a range of areas, including public policy and management and has also produced and directed two films for local government officials on the adoption of advanced technologies. Mr. Norris lives in Columbia, Md.

Roy C. Young (Law ’66 L/M) was elected president of Capital City Country Club and chairman of Big Bend Hospice in his hometown of Tallahassee, Fla. He was re-elected president and chief executive officer of his law firm, Young van Assenderp, for the 38th consecutive year. Mr. Young’s wife, Rose Marie; and their two children and four grandchildren live in Tallahassee.

Charles Veatch (Com ’64 CM)

Charles A. Veatch II (Com ’64 L/M) is the chairman of the board of trustees of Shenandoah University, where he is responsible for governing the board’s oversight of the institution’s strategic direction,  financial decisions and advancement initiatives. He is also the chairman of the board’s executive committee. Mr. Veatch serves on the endowment board of the National Wildlife Federation and is a real estate fellow at the McIntire School of Commerce at U.Va.

Roger Fraley (Com ’43, Law ’49 CM)

Roger D. Fraley (Com ’43, Law ’49 L/M) and his wife,  Irene, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Nov. 20, 2008. Mr. Fraley served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 1948 to 1950 and was employed for 17 years by Merrill Lynch and 13 years by Morgan Stanley. At the University, Mr. Fraley was student president of the College of Arts &  Sciences in 1943, played basketball and was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honor society, T.I.L.K.A., the Z society, the Raven Society and the Cornerstone Society. The Fraleys have a daughter,  Irene; and a son, Roger D. Fraley Jr. (Grad ’78), who practices law in Denver.

Ericka Alonso (Law ’08 A/M) and Kevin Rogers Clouther (Col ’01 A/M) were married June 6, 2009, at the Wychmere Harbor Club in Harwich Port, Mass. The ceremony was led by Matthew W. Brady (Col ’07), a friend of the couple who received permission from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to officiate. Sarah Hughes (Law ’08), Brian Leung (Col ’05, Law ’08), and Briggs Wright (Col ’01) were in the wedding party. The couple resides in New York, where Ms. Clouther is an associate at the law firm of Dewey & LeBoeuf and Mr. Clouther is a lecturer in writing at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
