Juliana Schroeder (Col ’08) received a three year National Science Foundation graduate research fellowship for her social psychology proposal. She will finish her job as an analyst at Cornerstone Research to attend the University of Chicago for a joint doctorate in psychology and business.

Jessica Lennon (Col ’08 L/M) is a University of Virginia School of Law member of the class of 2013.

Heather Alexander Norman (Nurs ’08) and Brett Norman announce the birth of their son, Jacob Traxel, born on March 30, 2010, in Fairfax, Va. Jacob has two sisters: Lindsay, 12; and Kaitlyn, 8.

Carlyle R. Wimbish III (Law ’90) is chair of the Healthcare practice group at the law firm of Sands Anderson and is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Mr Wimbish has spent his entire legal career at Sands Anderson, rising to lead a team of 13 healthcare attorneys defending doctors, hospitals and other health professionals in litigation throughout Virginia and North Carolina.

Joseph Cipp (Educ ’72) is a South Country School District educator and football coach in New York. He is the interim superintendent for the school district, where he has previously served as an assistant principal, athletic director, health teacher, dean of students, principal of the middle school summer program, physical education teacher and central office hearing officer. He started the football program there in 1976, was the Bellport Football head coach and was elected to the board of education

Addy Awofisayo (Com ’07) is a finance manager at Microsoft Corp. in Redmond, Wash. She joined the firm after graduating from the McIntire School of Commerce. She lives in Seattle.

Madison Gross (Com ’08) lives in Richmond, Va., and works as a strategy analyst in the consumer insights group at CarMax.

Amanda Brill (Col ’08 L/M) is developing a music program for teenagers at Sparrow Village, an HIV/AIDS community in Johannesburg, South Africa. Her students are studying various instruments, composing their own songs and learning how to edit and record their music with computer software. They hope to complete their “Sparrow Soundtrack” CD by the end of 2010, which will be sold to raise funds for Sparrow Village. In addition to teaching music, Ms. Brill runs a youth group and mentors approximately 30 teenage girls who have all been victims of disease, abuse and neglect. Nirav Desai (Engr ’99) is an associate for the law firm of Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox, an intellectual property law firm in Washington, D.C. Mr. Desai’s practice focuses on IP litigation and patent prosecution.

Sophia Siddiqui (Col ’01) is an associate in the Wilmington, Del., office of the law firm of Fox Rothschild. She also serves on the board of Delaware Futures, a not for profit organization that helps at-risk youth prepare for college, starting in the summer after eight grade, and provides academic, social and motivational support and cultural enrichment that empowers economically disadvantaged high school students.

Michael Lesher (Col ’80, Grad ’82) received the 2010 Pro Humanitate Literary Award from the Center for Child Welfare Policy of the North American Resource Center for Child Welfare. The award is conferred annually to authors from the U.S. and Canada whose articles best “exemplify the intellectual integrity and moral courage required to transcend political and social barriers to champion best practice in the field of child welfare.” Mr. Lesher co-authored A single-case of Rabbinic sexual abuse in the Orthodox Jewish Community, an article in the Journal of Child Sexual Abuse. Mr. Lesher is an author, columnist, investigative reporter, lawyer and legal editor who has published in the peer reviewed literature and in the popular press on the many facets of child sex abuse and institutional cover ups. He serves as a child advocate and has appeared on ABC Nightline and ABC Eyewitness News. He has been quoted in the New York Times, Associated Press, New York Newsday, New York Jewish Week and Forward. He has also argued these issues before the Court of Appeals for the Eight Circuit.

Kelley Hoeckele Harris (Com ’99) and her husband, Mitch Harris, are excited to announce the birth of their first child, Morgan Ellen, born Jan. 26, 2010. The family resides in Los Angeles.

Bob Barry (Col ’75, Law ’78 L/M) is a management employment lawyer at Kaufman & Canoles in Norfolk, Va. He is chairing the Virginia Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Law section for two years. He has a daughter who is a third year at U.Va.

Gene Crotty (Com ’55, GSBA ’57 L/M) is on the board of directors of the Thomas Jefferson Heritage Society, Inc., a non-profit foundation formed to define and defent the legacy of Thomas Jefferson. Mr. Crotty is a local historian, author and retired professor. Mr. Crotty served on the faculties of U.Va., Georgia Tech, UNC, University of Texas and Texas A&M. He has authored three books: Jefferson’s Legacy: His Own University, Visits of Lewis and Clark to Fincastle, Virginia, Jefferson’s Western Travels and Th. Jefferson Trivia: The Many Facets of a Fascinating Man.

Brant Thomas Murray (Arch ’93) is production manager for the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. The Atrium is the newest venue at Lincoln Center, the world’s largest performing arts organization. Since arriving in New York in November 2003, Mr. Murray has designed or collaborated on more than 400 productions. Mr. Murray met Joe Saint (Grad ’92) during their time at U.Va.’s Department of Drama, and work together for IMCD Lighting, Mr. Saint as president and Mr. Murray as a freelance lighting designer. He has taught classes and workshops at The Juilliard School, Lincoln Center and Carnegie Mellon. At Walden University, he is in his first year of doctoral study pursuing a Ph.D. in education. Mr. Murray lives with his wife in New York City.

Will Edgar (Col ’93 L/M) and his wife, Cary, welcomed their daughter, Sarah Nolen, on Jan. 21, 2010. The family resides in Raleigh, N.C. Sarah is the niece of Elizabeth Edgar Bole (Col ’89 L/M), C. Ernest Edgar IV (Law ’94) and Mary Ann Dominy Edgar (Law ’94).

Crissy Seamans Hemphill (Col ’95) and her husband, Jay, welcomed their second son, Archer Tillman, on Sept. 21, 2009. Archer joins his brother, Hayes, 3. The family resides in Raleigh, N.C.

Jeffrey A. Lewis (Engr ’03 L/M) accepted his first engineering management position at Lockheed Martin Corp. Mr. Lewis has been with the corporation for seven years and has held positions in software, systems and project engineering. He will graduate from his business unit’s Advanced Technical Leadership Program this summer. Last year, Mr. Lewis received his master’s degree in systems engineering from George Washington University. He and his wife, Christina, reside in Fairfax County, Va.

Rebecca Signer Roche (Col ’98) and Sean Roche welcomed their first child, James Brien, on March 20, 2010.

Stephen D. Busch (Col ’77 L/M) is president of the Virginia Bar Association. He is a partner in the toxic tort and environmental litigation department at McGuireWoods in Richmond.

William W. Lasher (Col ’75 L/M) is senior counsel in the New York City office of the law firm of Nixon Peabody and is a member of both the corporate trust and securitization and structure finance teams. Mr. Lasher’s practice focuses in the area of corporate trust and structured finance.

Erin Henderson Galbreath (Col ’00) welcomed her first son, Evan Carl, on July 9, 2009, with her husband, Kharlon A. Galbreath. They reside in Durham, N.C.

Tad Walls (Engr ’03) and Sarah Amelon Walls (Engr ’04 L/M)  are proud to announce the birth of their first child, Thomas Lambeth “Trip”, born on March 5, 2010.

Ray E. Donahue (Col ’99) and his wife, Lisa, welcomed their first son, John Arnold, on Jan. 20, 2010. The family lives in Washington, D.C.

Kelly Melissa Harris (Col ’02 L/M) and Adam Lawrence Hudes were married at the U.Va. Chapel on Oct. 25, 2008; the reception was held at Glenmore Country Club. The wedding party included siblings of the bride: Gregory P. Harris (Arch ’05), Kathryn A. Harris (Nurs ’09), Julianne P. Harris (Nurs ’10) and Matthew Z. Harris (Col ’13). The couple honeymooned in Hawaii and Australia. They reside in Arlington, Va., and work in Washington D.C., where Ms. Harris is a senior paralegal for Axinn, Veltrop and Harkrider and an M.B.A. degree candidate at the University of Maryland and Mr. Hudes is a senior associate at the law firm of Howrey.

Christopher Arnwine (Com ’03 L/M) and his wife, Mindy Todd Arnwine, welcomed their first child, daughter Eleanor Jane, on Dec. 9, 2009. They are living in Ashburn, Va.

Francie Bernier (Grad ’08) received the Rodney Appell Continence Care Champion Award from the National Association For Continence. She received the award at the Society of Urological Nurses and Associates annual symposium in March.

Amanda Daffron Milam (Nurs ’94) and Scott Wilson Milam (Col ’94 L/M) welcomed their daughter, Emmeline Elizabeth, on Feb. 4, 2010. She joins brother, Beckett, 3. The family lives in Arlington, Va.

Jennifer Addie (Col ’00 A/M) and Eugene Quarrie were married on May 23, 2009, and reside in New York City.

George O. Peterson (Law ’99) and Tania M. L. Saylor (Col ’99) opened the law offices of Peterson Saylor, PLC, on March 15, 2010. The firm specializes in fiduciary and business litigation and is located in Fairfax, Va.

Leslie Bywater Bishop (Col ’96 L/M) and her husband, Todd, welcomed their first child, Benjamin Thomas, on Feb. 2, 2010. They reside in Jacksonville, Fla., where Ms. Bishop is a medical device rep for Boston Scientific.

Kristen Patton Sagar (Col ’02, Grad ’03 L/M) and James R. Sagar (Col ’03) welcomed their first child, Elizabeth “Ella” Anne, on March 3, 2010. Ella was born at 6:42 a.m., weighing 7 lbs, 4 oz. The family lives in St. Louis, where Ms. Sagar is an attorney for Covenant Theological Seminary and Dr. Sagar is a resident physician at Barnes Jewish Hospital.

Gunes Hopson (Col ’97, Law ’01 L/M) has launched her own part-time photography business, www.fotogenicrichmond.com,  in Richmond, Va., specializing in on-location portrait, pet and sports photography.

Matt Fischer (Col ’95 L/M) and his wife, Renee, welcomed their first child, Alexander Everett Fischer, on July 2, 2009. Mr. Fischer is the director of the App Store at Apple Inc. and Renee is co-founder of Neela Products Inc. The family resides in Burlingame, Calif.

Adrianna Ryan Whish (Com ’97 L/M) and her husband, Peter, joyfully announce the birth of their first child, Richard Peter, born on Oct. 19, 2009. The family resides in London, where Ms. Whish is a business risk analyst for Financial Risk Management Limited, a fund of hedge funds.

Alexandra Foote (Col ’04 L/M) and Daniel Barker (Med ’08) were married on Oct. 3, 2009, at Carr’s Hill in Charlottesville. The couple resides in Charlottesville, where Dr. Barker is an otolaryngology resident and Ms. Barker is a real estate agent.
